4. Juan Martin Del Potro
5. Novak Djokovic
6. David Ferrer
7. Stanislas Wawrinka
8. Marin Cilic
9. Sam Querrey
10. Ernests Gulbis

no roddick or blake??? what is this...

Blake is almost 30 years old. At best he has been briefly a marginal top 10 player at times and now is getting old while younger and better talent is coming up. I dont know what reason there is to think he is likely to get there. My dropping a player like Davydenko is far more bold then dropping Blake.

Roddick is a bit more bold as well (unlike Blake which is a no brainer), but he doesnt seem to have any improvement left, and hasnt been a top 5 player for awhile now. So with the new gaurd on the rise he could drop out of the top 10 altogether.

My pick for top 10 end of 2010

1,Murray
2,Djokovic
3,Del Potro
4,Federer
5,Nadal
6,Roddick
7,Nishikori
8,Gulbis
9,Cilic
10,Gasquet

Current:

1. Nadal, Rafael (ESP)
2. Federer, Roger (SUI)
3. Djokovic, Novak (SRB)
4. Murray, Andy (GBR)
5. Ferrer, David (ESP)
6. Davydenko, Nikolay (RUS)
7. Nalbandian, David (ARG)
8. Roddick, Andy (USA)
9. Wawrinka, Stanislas (SUI)
10. Blake, James (USA)

End 2009:

1. Federer, Roger (SUI)
2. Murray, Andy (GBR)
3. Nadal, Rafael (ESP)
4. Djokovic, Novak (SRB)
5. Andreev, Igor (RUS)
6. Del Potro, Juan Martin (ARG)
7. Roddick, Andy (USA)
8. Wawrinka, Stanislas (SUI)
9. Simon, Gilles (FRA)
10. Gulbis, Ernests (LAT)

I think Del Porto, Andreev, Simon or Gulbis to reach the AO semi-final or final, hence the big leap.

Surprisingly few people are choosing Davydenko, I don't think hes a great player but hes certainly consistent.

1. Federer
2. Murray
3. Del Potro
4. Djokovic
5. Tsonga
6. Davydenko
7. Roddick
8. Wawrinka
9. Gulbissssss
10. Gonzalez (or maybe even Djok2, his bro will probably manage to get him a bye to every slam final next year).

This is riding on the assumption that Nadal's knees will fall off in the first round of the aussie open next year and he instantly retires because of this lack of knees. Failing this shift everyone after Federer down a place, but move marko up to 3 :D.

1. Federer

17. Youzhny
18. Almagro
19. Gonzalez
20. Blake

i think this one is pretty reasonable, the top 10 cannot change that much,. having simon, gulbis, nishi and del all up there means they took the semi's and finals of most of the big leagues and they are not gonna do that, maybe one of them might and some of them will do better but thats it. they are not gonna run the grandslams or masters all year long. coz they would need close to that to crash other top 10 players out and take their spots.

oh yea my top 10 is
1 - Fed
2 - Nadal
3 - Murray
4 - djo
5 - davydenko
6 - Roddick
7 - del potro
8 - wawrinka
9 - up for grabs
10 - up for grabs

1. Roger Federer
2. Rafael Nadal
Shouldn't be an argument who's in the top two.

3. Novak Djokovic
4. Andy Murray
Murray is currently a better player but Djokovic is just too consistent over the season.

5. Juan Martin Del Potro

6. Nikolay Davydenko
Again, he's too consistent. Every year, people pick him to fall out of the top 10 and every year he's in there and I don't see his game deteriorating at all.

7. Andy Roddick
He's had some problems with injuries but before that he was playing quite well and I think he can regain that form.

8. Richard Gasquet
Considering all of his peers have been blooming lately, I'm hoping he can catch whatever is going around.

9. Igor Andreev
He's been steadily moving up the rankings and has been improving throughout the season and becoming more of an all court player

10. David Ferrer
Don't see any reason to drop him out of the top 10. If anything I might be underestimating him.

Wild cards: In order to potential "top tennicity"

Marin Cilic
Fernando Gonzalez
Nicolas Almagro
Fernando Verdasco
Stanislas Wawrinka: I'm not sure if I'd even want to consider him a wild card for the top 10 next year because I don't know if he is at his peak or if he is still improving. He doesn't really have a go to weapon.
David Nalbandian

I will just keep my prediction to top 5 as its too messy under that.

1 Rafa
2 Novak
3 Feds
4 Daveydenko
5 Murray.

Very interesting that so many have totally given up on poor old Nikolay?

Top 10 at the end of 2009

1. Nadal
2. Djokovic
3. Federer
4. Murray
5. Del Potro
6. Davydenko
7. Ferrer
8. Roddick
9. Wawrinka
10. Querrey

Outside Top 10

Blake, Nalbandian,Tsonga, Cilic,Gasquet,Tipsarevic, Andreev, Gonzalez, Gulbis, Almagro

Hopefully these guys will be healthy. Rafa has a tendency of playing way too many tournaments. He has played well over 80 matches this year alone. It is not suprising that he lost at the US Open and may not have that much left in the tank for the Masters Cup in Shanghai in November. He'll hold on to his #1 ranking for now but he had better be careful.

No Djoke

1. Nadal

have to go with him as he's been so impressive, it could be Federer though, cause I can see it being very close next year. Rafa will have trouble defending some points outside clay and Federer will have a better year, particularly the part from AO till Miami will be better.

2. Federer

One of the greatest players ever, his peak is clearly over, but I think he showed in Flushing Meadows that he's still a lot better than Murray and Djokovic when he's on form.

3. Djokovic

He's been close to Federer and Nadal all year, and although he lost twice to Murray this season, he clearly showed he's got what it takes. People tend to forget quickly, because now he's got an average summer people are writing him off, while early in the season it was Novak who seemed the main threat to Federer's spot, as he dominated the hardcourts big time. His clay season was also very good and I think people are way too quick to say he's gonna have a bad year.

4. Murray

Really becoming part of the big four. He'll get to maybe 4000 points.

5. Del Potro

The guy keeps impressing, 4 ATP titles, USO quarters, 2 wins in davis cup. He's unbelievable and he'll go up the rankings until wimbledon next year for sure. He'll be seeded at every tournament so he can win a lot of cheap points.. He'll be a really big player.

6. Davydenko

He is so consistent, very good player and underestimated by a lot of people

7. Roddick

Andy Roddick has been around in the top 10 for very long now, and has had a couple of nasty injuries, yet still makes the quarters of the US Open. His Dubai tournament earlier this year was impressive imo, and he'll do well next year again, because he's not that old and if his body can keep it up, I think he's still very hungry.

8. Wawrinka

Wawrinka is still young, gaining experience and wins the matches he's gotta win. He's very consistent, doesn't get upset by midgets too often, but doesn't seem to win matches against the best players yet. He's never beaten Federer or Nadal, but his Olympic gold and Rome final were a start maybe. Think he'll gain a place and make it to the masters cup next year

9. Gasquet

I hope he finally comes good.

10. Nalbandian

If he gets his confidence back, he still is damn good.

People tend to come up with all kinds of names putting up delpo, gulbis, tsonga, cilic, nishikori and stuff. Sure they'll improve, but they won't get to the top 10 all next year. Tsonga will drop big time for instance after AO and won't even be seeded at tournaments so he'll have a tough time getting up the ranks.

...
5. Del Potro
...

Now you got me confused. I thought "Delpo" is Del Potro.

1. Nadal
2. Djokovic
3. Murray
4. Federer
5. DelPotro
6. Davydenko
7. Almagro
8. Gonzalez
9. Gasquet
10. Wawrinka

That's nearly theoretically impossible at the top of the list. Federer has a final to defend and the TMC, but even if he does semi-decent the very worse he drops is 3. He can also pick up points at Paris still.

Please read the thread title again. This thread is about the end of 2009. Anything is possible until then.

Yeah, I meant Del Potro, and I understand you got confused. But what I meant to say was, that people throw in WAY too many rotations in the top10. I just can't see there being 5 new people in the top 10 next year. Wawrinka and Del Potro will be new this year but the rest stayed pretty much the same. I just think some of them are going to make it next year (like Del Potro, cause he's better than the others imo)but most are gonna be top 20 at most next year.

End of 2090:

1. Jürgen Osbauer (ger)
2. Luis Ramirez (chi)
3. Raúl Guerrero (esp)
4. Juan Torres (arg)
5. Bob Malcolm (usa)
6. George Tucker (usa)
7. Phil Roberts (aus)
8. Luc Blanchard (fra)
9. Igor Ruschev (rus)
10. Alberto Squillari (esp)

here is my top ten and why

1) Rafa Nadal - clearly the best player in the world this year, nadal is still getting better. His serve is improving, and he is beginning to play more agressively on hard courts. Nadal has the capability to win all four slams

2) Roger federer - with people questioning whether djokovic had passed him after wimbledon, federer took out the serb in the US open showing he has the skill to win more majors and pass Pete for most majors ever. he needs to be more consistent and is starting to rely more on his serve

3) Novak Djokovic - like nadal djokovic is young and is still improving. while being one of the most consistent players on tour, he has not been able to able to win big tournaments since Rome, and is lacking big power to win him easy points. he and roger will be in a fight for number two all year, and ultimately it will be has lack of killer punch in finals and semi's that will keep him here at years end

4)JM del Potro - while i may face some criticism for putting him before murray i believe he has more potential. while it was murray who broke dp's run of 30 something straight wins lets remember that he lacks murray's experience. at davis cup he showed he could take down top players and during his run he showed he wont loose to lower ranked players. comforable on all surfaces no joke, i think he can win a slam next year

5) Andy Murray - playing remarkable tennis since the start of wimby murray will round up this big 5. a very slick mover with great shots murray has been around for two years and now he will breakthrough. his biggest downfall is his lack of big power and is always sceceptible to loosing on any given date. it will be his play on clay that will keep him from moving to 4 in the year

6) Andy Roddick - another pick which may draw criticism, andy roddick is the longest fixture in the top 10 besides fed and is playing good enough tennis where he can cause damage. it will be his experience that will keep him over guys like gasquet, davydenko, cilic, nalby, gulbis and gonzo. if his forhand was like it was from dubai to rome he could even go higher

7)Nicolay Davydenko - after 6 there is no sure thing for spots 7-12. so the vet will come through at 7. playing the best tennis of his life at an older age, and with the betting scandal off him look for his consisten self deep in toruney's and playing alot.

8)Stan Wawrinka - breaking into the top ten this year, stan the man has shown some impressive play in both singles and doubles and shows no signs of slowing down

9) Marin Cilic - will be this years surprise player. having just turned 20, this kid shows great potential in having beaten andy roddick and fernando gonzalez winnign new haven against some tricky players, and playing a tough 4 hour match against djoker in NYC, he has all the tools and size to go high in the rankings

10)David Ferrer - currently having a tough end to 08, ferrer will start off 09 like he did this year and should have some good enough results on clay to keep his ranking in the top ten. i no he is very of form but he is a great counterpuncher with a lot of grit

I don´t want to be rude, but who cares? I mean 2008 is not even over and try predicting that correctly. Why don´t we have a 2025 top ten list while we´re at it? Oh and the 2018 World Cup champs too.

Hey I got the top 7 right :). Though I will admit I was quite a bit off with my 8-10.
