Trouble is, footage from those matches just captures nothing of what it was like. To anyone watching who's grown up with Nadal and Federer the game looks like something you hardly recognise. I watched Borg/McEnroe 1980 Final on a little black-and-white telly and the tie-break is still one of the greatest things I've ever seen - the tension just ratcheted in a way you can't describe.

Any match is only as good as the moment it is played though. That’s the whole point: it’s the best reality tv because it is unscripted and you don’t know what’s going to happen next if you watch it live.

Australian Open:
No contest really here for greatest match. Redefined the nature of the sport of tennis itself. Greatest Match Ever Played by a mile and a half.
Honorable mentions: 2017 final, 2013 Fed v Murray and Djokovic v Wawrinka, 2005 SF, 09 SF
Roland Garros:
Full of twists and turns, impeccable shotmaking, and the trademark Herculean rallies. Gladiator fight for the ages.
Honorable mentions: 09 Fed vs Haas, 2010 Djokovic vs Melzer (painful to rewatch but still great match), 2016 final, 2015 Nadal vs Djokovic (for obvious reasons).
Wimbledon:
Again pretty obvious. Most dramatic match possibly ever. Huge changing of the guard moment for tennis.
Honorable mentions: 2014 final, 2009 final, 2013 Murray vs Verdasco, 2017 Nadal vs Muller, 2001 final
US Open:
Might be the most important tennis match ever. Had a few lapses in quality in the 1st and 2nd sets, but the last few games saw the highest level of play any tennis player has ever achieved. Djokovic awakens his dragon to free the sport from the stranglehold of Roger Federer, and thus began a new golden era of tennis.
Honorable Mentions: 2013 SF, 2012 final, 2011 SF, 2005 Agassi vs Blake,
Not mentioning Fed-Djoko RG 2011, but instead mentioning 2010 RG Djoko-Melzer and 2015 RG Nadal-Djoko is a complete joke.

Of course. But I think when you watch a great twenty stroke rally on highlights you still get a bit of build up in the tension. Whereas Borg/McEnroe W80 tiebreak the rallies seem so short that you don't really get any of the live effect at all.

Isn't everyone just going to pick their favourite matches that their favourite player played? If that's the case, mine are as follows:

Federer vs Nadal 2017 AO final
Federer vs Soderling 2009 FO final
Federer vs Murray 2012 Wimby Final
Federer vs Hewitt 2004 USO F/ vs Agassi '05 USO F

You forgot - RG 2017 quarterfinal,AO 2018 4th Round,2007 US Open final and 2013 WImbledon final.Beautiful matches
If you noticed, all the matches I showed we're of Nadal drubbing Federer, not just generic losses. The point was to show Nadal wins as a reaction to the post about Nadal losses, not just to throw sh't at Federer. You didn't even put in that degree of effort, you just vomited up a bunch of Djokovic losses that have nothing to do with the topic. If you want to make a scathing roast, at least do it in a sophisticated manner, if you are at all capable of doing so.
Have a great day, sir.

I prefer 2007 AO Federer-Djokovic, 2006 USU Djokovic-Hewitt, 2011 FO Federer-Djokovic, 2012 Cincinnati Federer-Djokovic and more recently Djokovic vs Paire or Daniel.

2007 AO: Djokovic to camera: "I'm taking you down Roger!"
2008,2011,2016: *Crushes Federer*

With Federer:

AO 2017 F
RG 2011 SF
Wimbledon 2012 F
USO 2008 vs Andreev. Not a great match, but a personal favourite due to Federer's post match happiness.

Without Fed:

Stan-Novak AO 2013
Rafa-Novak RG 2013 (also really enjoyed Murray vs Wawrinka last year)
Murray-Djokovic Wimbledon 2013. Murray winning is the only reason it's in this list and I have no ties to GBR. (I just realized 3 of my non Fed matches are from 2013, lol)
Agassi-Blake USO 2005

There isn't really a way to describe a match that is great because of the quality of tennis played by just one participant - 1984 Wimbledon McEnroe/Connors is another example. "Great demolition job" sounds a bit cruel!

My deepest apologies - it was clearly a 'tounge in cheek' post

That one's a favourite of mine too. Federer going all Jimmy Connors was great! The dramas of W 08 and AO 09 have rather wiped US 08 from the collective memory but it was a great win.

It's my favourite USO win of Federer's. Simply because he basically salvaged a year with that win, and he looked so happy doing it.
