Good lists, imo. I like or resonate with Stringer's list a lot. All his recommendations have been awesome.

Except that I am not a Star Wars fan. Sorry. I'd rather put 2001 in its place.

I take it this is an English movies list, or perhaps only Hollywood ?


^^^ Never understood the Princess Bride thing. Someone recommended it to me, i saw it and wondered if he had joked with me. Seemed a bit of a kid's movie to me.

I'd like to see Rommil's top 10, but please no Thai/hacker/slasher movies, please :)

My fave list would probably contain some more old B&W movies, will have to think a bit.

Nah, I don't think it has to be English movies only, just any amount of your fav movies. I just followed in the steps of the OP...

That's interesting about The Princess Bride as well, don't really know anyone who doesn't like it... but I guess we all have different tastes.

GLENGARRY something happened there coz the performing level of ALL the four main guys and their interplay Is completely off charts
I think is by far the greatest combined perfor.since Godfather
You could expect that from Lemmon and Al
But Baldwin and Harris have never been better
 
Unforgiven is up there too
And that striptease movie with Carlyle& buddies is the last great movie from Brittain made for britts inside Britt socks

I loved ( and hated as well) when he makes that long speech about the watches he´s got.

Amarcord over La Dolce and 81/2 is an interesting choice. Also Dersu uszala over Rashomon, Yojimbo or Seven Samurai? Gonna check out some films on your list but currently on a Hitchcock marathon lol

Like painters, works from deceased masters of film accrue value. Welles' work was groundbreaking at the time and people within the industry (AFI voters) appreciate that. Personally, I would never rank these directors and their work in any particular order just because they are from totally different eras, much like it's pointless to get into tennis GOAT debates. Besides, art of any medium, isn't like sport where there are meaningful statistics to compare.

I like CK...we studied it in my film history classes and it still holds up to watching 70 some odd years after its release. It belongs on any list of great films.

Kill Bill vol. 2 but that's mainly because of Uma. I love her :). But, in all seriousness it's a great movie, imo. I like the dialogues and esp Michael Madsen's performance. Madsen is my favorite actor. Mr coolness :lol:

Citizen Kane is a piece of art for film scholars and the like,but for the average joe,it's entertainment value isn't high. I enjoyed The Third Man more,which Orson Welles was in...

LOL need to see Kill Bill both volumes. Also, really like Madsen , saw him in Reservoir Dogs. So demented but also kinda funny. :lol:
