Okay. What was just absolutely your favourite set of tennis ever?

Note - not necessarily the best. Just your favourite.

Bonus points for it being a bit more obscure (i.e. not that TB set from the Wimbledon 08 final :D ). But whatever you like.

Post away. :)

Wasn't the best set or peak level set or any of that. It was just an important set. Federer takes the 3rd set from Djokovic 2012 Wimbledon. Knew he had Wimbledon in his pocket on the way to #17.

Low quality but heads popping up!

I reemember that match. Was kind of a weird match. 1st 2 sets went by quickly and were mirror images of eachother. Fed showed he was boss that day in the 3rd. Was a solid performance but the whole match seemed odd and a bit dreamy to me. I agree you know he was gonna win another slam again after the 2 year hiatus since his final opponent was Murray lol.

It was a weird match. I think most people thought Djokovic was the fav. Such a pivotal set in history IMO.

5th set AO 2017.
4th set FO11 RF vs Novak.
2nd set Wimby09 RF vs Roddick.
3rd set Wimby12 RF vs Benneteau.
Stans's 4th set FO2015 finals.

For me it's last year's 5th set against Rafa at the Aussie. The crowd was insanely loud during the last 5 games and it seemed almost like a dream. The 35 year old reeling off the last 5 consecutive games to come back from 3-1 down in the 5th against his nemesis, especially playing the tennis he was (with backhands down the line and cross court everywhere.)

I've watched last year's 5th set (and the last 10 games of the 2009 Wimby final) more times than I can count.

For me, it's those two.
The 2012 AO fifth set was a classic as well as Djoko did the same and came back. Tension everywhere and both nearly dead on their feet.

Someone likes seeing Nadal lose ;)

Many of my favs are epic Rafa losses. But you should be happy, he still is, as you said, the main attraction. He's the Shawn Michaels of tennis, win or lose I'll give you that. I love to see him lose but I still love to SEE him .

It's honestly not about that. Fed is my favourite and I liked those two sets.
The Novak-Rafa match was just.....intense. I don't know if i'd rank it differently if the score was reversed. The fifth set of the 2008 Wimby was an epic but Nadal beat my fav, then. And I still think it's an all-time classic set.

It might seem that I've picked 2 sets where Rafa lost, deliberately. But it isn' the case.

I think Rafa's playstyle makes close, long slam final with a tight 5th set more likely.

Fifth set of Wimbledon 2008.
Very sad that Fed lost but a new star was born.

USO 2011 set 3 :)
FO 2013 set 5
3rd set Madrid 2009

That one does really stand out. It was a street fighter set from Nadal, he was running down everything like a madman and just pummeling the ball off the FH wing. It felt like he put all the energy he had left into that set.

In general, I consider 2011 USO to be one of the most underrated matches in the last decade, a great athletic contest between two of the world's (and all-time) best.

I vastly prefer it to 2012 AO which was more about fitness and mental strength with both of the players being overly passive off the ground.

In retrospect, it's clear Nadal knew he would lose the match even if he won the 3rd (it's the last Nadal loss I was truly mad/butthurt after), but with that and AO 2012, I just learned some matches lead to results in matches down the road and not to be upset after losses anymore. But for him to do all that he did (after being in the locker room crying and doubting himself) just to go LOOK ULTRON...., I can still go toe to toe with you, but maybe not for a full match, was just epic looking back.

Disagree about preferring it to A0 12 5th but I do tend to prefer tactical, defensive play more than most.

However, I agree that the rallies in the whole 11 final and particularly the 4th set were incredible. It gets lost because the overall result was not close. But, probably the most breathtaking rallies off the ground I've ever seen, when you consider both movement and ball striking.

1984 FO final 5th set

Ivan was the first tennis player I found myself supporting, and his whole comeback against McEnroe (who was invincible for the whole year until then) to win his first Major was incredible.

The famous recent ones:
2008 Wimbledon final 5th set
2009 Wimbledon final 5th set
2012 Australian Open final 5th set

That 1984 set was important. Too bad I could not watch it live.
Now I would like to find it in YouTube

Strong join date to post ratio :) I love it
As my dad always used to say, you've got two ears but only one mouth.
In this instance, I've got two eyes, but then again I've got ten fingers . . . . . so must post more?
I'm more interested in reading what more knowledgeable people than me have to say!

Not for quality, but 5th set of RG 2004 was incredible, crazy and still has me thinking WTF happened.

I enjoyed 5th set of Roddick/Gasquet, wimbledon 2007, i remember BH winners, lots of them!
