Your opinion 2 piece vs one piece

If your stringing a full bed of the same string do you get a more consistent string bed with two piece versus a one piece. I find the short side in the mains is going to be less tension on the last two strings. Versus the two piece you tie to knots on the mains and the seem to slack the same.

Can this be noticed at all playing or is this just an OCD thing

OCD. I'd be very impressed if anyone notices this during play. Plus most stringers raise the last pull 15% short side in order to compensate for the slack caused during tying a knot.

You don't ever have to tie off the short side outside main. But I have my doubts that after stringing the crosses there would be much difference, and you're right no one could tell the difference in play.

I prefer two piece over one piece because it is easier and better for the frame. Some stringers prefer one piece over two piece because it is faster.

I string one piece string jobs with the short side measured long enough to do the first cross string. If you do this with Prince _Port frames remember to make the short side on the side maker long so that the crosses will line up correctly.

I am with Irvin on this one. I much prefer two piece, expecially with soft strings like gut and upper end synthetics. I do believe it is easier on the frame and it is almost certainly easier on the string.

I would add that I am not confident that one-piece saves much time on most frames--by the time you pull all of the extra string through on a one-piece, I suspect that offsets the slight extra time to cut two lengths and in any event, any time saved should not be material.

It doesn't matter one way or the other to me. I string so many hybrids now that two-piece has become the norm instead of the exception.

Care to qualify your "most stringers" statement? I'd find the OVERWHELMING majority to not compensate on their last pull specifically on the short side. If it's a systematic increase (all knots), then fine, but why introduce a variable if it's unnecessary?

Same. I will tie off after weaving and tensioning the top cross. It makes for a more predictable method, IMO. It's nigh impossible to tension the top cross properly without using a starting knot (2 pc) anyways. I find people (for whatever reason) care more about the outside mains being tight rather than the top and bottom .

I've run into customers that think the tightness of the outside mains is a quality indicator of a stringer...

I don't see increasing the tension on the short side tie off as well as the tie off for the crosses any different than a increase for all knots in a 2 piece pattern. And yes most stringers I've ever met do follow this procedure.

2pc seems more practical, but I heard that Nadal has always insisted on 1pc, so go figure...

Nadal doesn't insist on this. In fact the Spanish stringer who works a lot with him thru the year uses a 2 piece method, and upon learning this we now string his rqts 2 piece at Wimby.

hm..

I heard both hold tension the same.

If I had no starting clamp, 1 piece. I think starting knots are kinda ugly.

If I had that clamp, two` baby!

If the crosses are shorter than the mains, can you compensate by stringing the crosses at a lower tension in a one-piece? Or should you?

Thanks for the authoritative clarification. I was always suspicious about this Nadal 1pc rumour.
