Your Opinions of Alu Power 138?

I am a racket-ho. I hit flat and hard and play best with 18M sticks, but I like to try a bunch of stuff, even the mega spin sticks. As you know, not all 16M rackets are created equal. Some are moderately spaced and potentially playable for a flat hitter like myself. I was thinking of buying a reel of thick (over 130) poly to try in these rackets. Alu 138 seems awful enticing. Crispy Alu Power in that thick of a string?!?

Does it still play like Alu Power? Generate that nice spin and have that Aluscious feel? I mean, I have a reel of Alu Ice Blue 125, and I don’t think that plays like Alu Power. On the other hand, I have Alu Power 110, and that is definitely still Alu Power.

Do you like Big Banger Original 138, RPM Blast 135, Blast Rough 135 or Lynx Tour 130 better than Alu 138?

Yes it’s still ALU. Similar to how thinner ALU gauges perform like you would expect thinner ALU to (crisper, string hits the stretch limit a bit earlier which can feel like less dwell time, less durable, higher launch angle, etc.), 130 and 138 ALU play like you’d expect thicker ALU to play. They feel like ALU but slightly less crisp than the standard 125, more durable, stretch limit hit later, lower launch angle, etc. For sure it still plays like you’d expect ALU to play if you’re familiar with it.

Haven’t played big banger original 138 in years. I don’t believe it’s available anymore, at least in the US. I prefer ALU over everything if we’re just talking performance. On the rest of the strings you listed, my experience is in line with how I experience ALU assuming same racquet and tension. Yours may vary. @J011yroger covered multiple ALU and BBO gauges in his string review thread. Maybe others you’re interested in too. Just search for the thread.

I've used ALU Power 138. At low tension it feels very comfortable and with massive spin. I had about 4 to 5lbs difference between the main and cross, with the main looser. The launch angle was high, but the ball keeps dropping in. I also tried a hybrid with 15L synthetic gut as main, it was really really powerful and consistent and predictable, precise with loads of spin.
