Your racquets setup (strings, lead and all)

Semi-Pro
Just thought I should share this with anyone interested...

I have two Wilson sticks. One is H4 Hammer and the other one is n6.1 "95.

Wilson H4 Hammer

My back up stick. Open pattern 16x20, 100" head, wide beam, stiff, long body. Good for spin, clay court, practice and changes of rhythm.

Strung with Babolat Syntronic Brio 17 @ 26 kg. This is it:

http://i3.tinypic.com/xggyvd.jpg

I have 3 grams of lead at 2 and 3 grams at 10 o'clock:

http://i1.tinypic.com/xggyo4.jpg

Note the Wilson logo vibration dampener. I have 12 grams of lead in the throat area:

http://i3.tinypic.com/xgh0co.jpg

And, most importantly, I have 32 grams of lead in the handle to counterweight it from being head heavy:

http://i3.tinypic.com/xggyf7.jpg

Customized like this it weighs around 340 grams. It's stable, has a large sweet spot, generates good spin, has a good plow through.

Wilson n6.1 "95

My main stick. Closed pattern 18x20, good for everything in my opinion.

Also strung with Babolat Syntronic Brio 17 @ 26 kg. This is it:

Again, I have 3 grams of lead at 2 and 3 grams at 10 o'clock:

http://i1.tinypic.com/xgh0ky.jpg

The worm dampener! Strange beast if you ask me. Also, 3 grams of lead at 6 o'clock:

http://i3.tinypic.com/xgh1td.jpg

Current weight of this racquet is around 360 grams. It's perfect in everything I try with it. My Holy Grail!

Both racquets are grip size L4 and overgripped. I'm not picky about the overgrips.

So, any comments?

And what is your setup?

Wilson Pro Staff 6.1. The string pattern is 16x18
Strung with Wilson Synthethic Gut at 63 lbs (28.6 kg)
Current weight of this racquet is around 410 grams (14.4 oz)
Leaded up with... a lot at 3' and 9', and with a huge grip over 6''.

And no backup racquets

410 grams? Respect! :)

Andres, you've mentioned already that you don't have a back up racquet. How come? I don't know the story.

head fxp 4
36 grams of lead- 12 at 3 and 9 oclock and 24 on the handle under the overgrip
plays more like a headlight and stable tweener (imagine that... :)). feels like a players racket with a bigger head and more power, but i like it

Dunlop M-Fil 200 Plus 2005 Edition

4 grams of lead tape at 10:00 and 4 grams at 2:00

Two Willson Pro Overgrips on top of the original grip

Tecnifibre Polysipn 1.275 @ 63/61 strung 1 piece

No vibration dampener!!!!!

The polyspin is a decent string, but I would be using something else if my team was not given this string.

n6-1 95 16x18
12.8oz 8pt HL Signum Poly Megaforce at 58/62 (going up to 59/63 soon)
grip enlarged from 3/8 to 5/8, leather, wilson pro white or yonex white

backup: same

I was in the mailing office yesterday right after the tennis practice (to see the status of a package sent), and I weighted the racquet with those cool balancers of the postal office, and it turned out the racquet is 432 gs, not 410. I never weighted after the last two overgrips, but I wasn't expecting to add 22 gs to it. But it's a good thing, it's super heavy the way I like it, and the balance it's still super Head Light.

Why don't I have a backup racquet? Easy to answer.

Currency money convertion/exchange, or whatever the correct word for it is.

A good new racquet here (depends on the model, naturally), it's from $350 to $750 ($ being argentinian Pesos: U$S 116 and U$S250 respectively). But the average salary in Argentina for a 21 years old guy like me is about 600 pesos. I make a little more than that, but because of my job, I'm always re-investing, so I can't save MUCH money.

There's no way I can afford to buy new racquets. That would mean:
1) Stop eating and living for a month
2) Eat 50% and don't live for a couple of months.
3) Save A YEAR to buy two new racquets.... that's what I'm doing.

Anyway, I bought my PS 6.1 used, and it costed me 150$ (50 USD), and after several use, there is no black paint left. If you see the pic in the 'your picture' thread, all the black stuff you see is duck tape, to attempt to save the paint left :p

That's why my backup racquets are the ones on my signature. The Head Vilas (woody), and in case that one also breaks strings (unlikely, because of the low low low tension 33 lbs or 15kg), I have to play with the squash racquet, ultra hyper mega MID.

The main racquet i use is the wilson Ncode N6 strung with head FXP@ 62 lbs.
It's 103 C.I. version. No lead tape and it has wilson true grip (white).

The back-ups. 2 wilson graphite aggressors strung with head fibre-gel @ 61 lbs.
and both use what-a-grip over grips. No lead tape and both are 95 C.I.

And 1 prokennex destiny with the same set-up as the aggressors and is 95 C.I.

I see, thanks for clarifying it for me, Andres. I didn't know this was the case. I thought that if you could afford a trip to Europe then you could also afford a back up stick. Sorry to hear that, amigo.

@tennis nerd: sounds like an agassi stick to me! ;)

Different things, my friend.
A trip to Europe it's something you would never regret, and it's a great goal to save money, as I had. Buying tennis racquets... hmmm... not that good of a goal ;)

I mean, I have the money to buy the sticks... what I DON'T like is the fact that 2 racquets are 110% of my monthly salary, due to the current cash convertion.

my set-up is a wilson ncode six one team with no lead tape a 18/20 stringing patern with nat gut in the crosses and bb alu power rough in the mains with a wilson perforated replacement grip and wilson pro grip/babolat vs grip !

Yonex RDS001 Mid strung at 63 lbs. I try different strings all the time but mainly I get Lux ALU Power Rough in the mains and Yonex 850 in the crosses.

I put 2 layers of lead tape at 9 , 12 and 3 on the frame and use a Gamma Hi-Tech Perforated grip since it's really thin and tacky. Use the babolat black and yellow custom damp without the rubber thing in the middle. Might switch to the head worm damp though.

haha you bet :D i want to get an rds 001 MP or m-fil 200 '06 version, but ill wait until after summer once i build my body, so i can handle some of the better heavier player's rackets

I have 2 Slazenger Pro X1's with different amounts of lead to match them. They are both currently at 369g (13.0 oz) and 14 pts head light. Both are also strung with SPPP 18/Duraflex 18 hybrid at 56.5/58 lbs. and have Gamma leather grips with Wilson Pro overgrips and Rubberband dampener.

right now 3 LM prestiges MP strung with bighitter mains @ 60 lbs and babolat VS touch crosses @ 63 lbs. lead at 3 and 9, 3 grams on each side. wilson profeel dampner, handel is always wraped with a tourna grip.

Great setups, people. They make me wish I could demo them for a day. :D

Anyone with the pics, maybe? They're optional, but would be nice to see some more.

Diablo MP
main pro hurricane
cross gosen synthetic gut used by kournikova
all at 53 lbs

handle is pacific grip. no overgrip
no lead.

In the back of my mind, I know I suck and need coaching help. But in the FRONT of my mind, I just know the problem is really the racquet...:D
Hehe Didn't notice your sig before. Very good! :D

nice setup. less weight training needed for hockey huh

guys this might be a tricky question, but how much lead to you have to add to the handle of a racket to make it one more point HEADLIGHT?

im just wondering, because then i can use that to see what the total weight of my racket is. i dont have a scale (like a cake scale) to measure it myself, otherwise i would. the only weighing scale i have is for me which STARTS at around 300 kg... lol jk :)

ProStaff Tour 95, no lead.

Strung w/ Luxilon at 55 lbs. (but with tension loss, it's deathly low now. You can push the stringbed like a trampoline. Much fun)

Original ridged grip with black Microtac on top.

anyone?

My guess is that there's no single answer to your question. The amount of lead required to shift the balance of the racquet for one point would depend on the initial weight of the racquet. The heavier the racquet, the more lead you'd need.

On the other hand, I'm no good at calculating the balance of my racquets, so what do I know?!

First, you'll need to provide more information than "a racquet". What is the current weight and balance point. Or at least give the brand and name of the racquet.
Then if someone else can't give you an answer you will have to wait for the waters to receed as I have been washed out of my apartment for a couple days.
So much rain:(

wilson 200Gxl with some lead tape here and there (test this, test that..). strung hybrid nylon/poly at 50lbs

yep id say that too.

Right now I'm using

Wilson ProStaff 6.1 Classic
Wilson NXT 17 @65 lbs. (Feels like about 55 lbs. now)
Wilson Cushion Aire Sponge
(No lead)

by end of the month I'll be using Babolat leather and Yonex Super grap. And MOST LIKELY Poly Plasma mains and Forten Sweet crosses.

Babolat Pure Drive Std.
Hurricane/Xcel - (Lost so much tension.)
Lead at 3 and 9
Wilson Leather under Tourna
Gamma Shockbuster I or Pete Sampras O (testing which is better)

Do any of you guys with Pure Drives or APDs know what balance your racquets are after adding lead to the hoop?

Do you play with equally balanced racquets now or do they even get head heavy?

3 All Up:
2 POGS
Cobalt Blue Supergrap on leather
SPPP 58 lbs
Gamma Worm

PC600
Straight Leather- Wilson
Babolat Pro Hurricane 56 lbs
Gamma Worm

Two Volkl Classic V1's:

1st V1
Strung with 16g Gamma Live Wire XP
Gamma "Shockbuster" dampener
Yonex Super Grap (yellow)

2nd V1
Strung with yellow 16g Prince Lightning XX
"O" Home Depot cable grommet as dampener
Tourna-grip

Wilson prostaff tour 90
leather grip, whatever over grip
no lead, rubberband dampner
Sppp mains at 60, PSGD 60

backup is the same

My setup is in my sign. I use tournagrip on all three rackets. I generally use sensation 16 mains and gosen micro 18 crosses but right now I don't have any sensation so I'm using gosen proform tuff 16 mains and gosen micro 18 crosses both setups are good to me.

2 wilson nsix-one 9 16x18 both strung w/ babolat pro hurricanes at 57 lbs. no lead on either. grip is w/e i can find.
