Your top 3 most powerful 'normal' polys and top 3 most powerful shaped polys?

What are you stringhead connoisseurs thoughts on what are the most powerful, absolute ball ripping, bionically charged, ballistic, tennis ball crushing polys (and I'm talking full poly jobs) known to man! :)

I'd actually really like it too if there could be say, your top 3 for this as re 'normal' polys, plus a top 3 on shaped polys.

So... your top 3 nuclear oomph polys are...?

Your top 3 mega-powered shaped polys are?...

TIA

BTW, I did check the stringer's forum on most powerful polys but the ranking system seemed somewhat flawed...

It's all going to be relative, Ross. For bazooka powered strings you really need to be looking at natural gut and multifilaments, not polys.

That said, in relative terms BHBR17 is high powered for a poly and during the first 2 or 3 hours, that power is not at the expense of control. After that there's increased loss of directional accuracy. It's a string that maxes out the extremes - the amount of action, rotations, and pace on the ball, the number of winners you hit, the number of your UEs, and the number of your opponents UEs.

Alot of people mention Polystar Energy as a very powerful poly, though I've no personal experience of it.

To borrow Pirelli's slogan, "Power is nothing without control...."

So that is your top poly, where are the rest?

poly is definitely going to give you more power than a multi or natural gut. RPM blast, pro hurricane, big banger ALU power... you can really crush the ball with those strings. those are my top three simply because those are the ones ive played with. polys give you a mix of power and spin that is unrivaled by anything else. you do lose out on feel though which is why many of the top players blend natural gut with their polys in order to have a good mix of both.

Just Wrong:oops:
Multis are much more powerful than polys. It might fell like you have more power from a poly because you have more control and you can swing out more without hitting the ball out.

No, no.

Poly's in general are lower powered compared with multis, syn-guts or gut, particularly. There are a few poly exceptions such as PL2 which is quite a powerful string.

Poly's don't necessary have a reduced feel either and generally control orientated with high spin. Just for reference too, a nat gut / poly cross will provide the most spin out of any string combination going, even full poly.

hmmm.... interesting. i guess this is logical. ive always felt like it was easier to generate pace with a poly as compared to a multi or synthetic. guess you learn something new every day...

The difference is magnified when you go to low tension. Try comparing a poly in the low 40's to a multi in the low 40's. You can control the poly easily, but the multi will be a rocket launcher.

Is it my turn of phrase here? Seems to be that a big debate about something else has been sparked.

I'm not asking which kind of strings are more powerful - multis, gut, etc. I'm simply asking what, in people's experiences are their most powerful polys in the 2 categories stated?

I'm actually asking this as I'm interested in putting a big power full poly job in my Exo. Moreover, I personally found Polystar Energy to be probably the most powerful poly I've ever hit with, however I wasn't so into its particular feel, but I'm curious to hear the experiences of others. Furthermore, I'm wondering if people have found certain shaped polys to have more power than shaped polys.

It is subjective.
It's only subjective if you were trying to seperate most powerful poly A with most powerful poly B. It's not subjective at all if you were comparing something like Silverstring or BBO to the equivalent gauge BHBR or Energy.

It's like comparing your Big Bubba to a PSL and deciding which is the most powerful. There's no subjectivity involved at all, as its clear which is the more powerful.

No poly I've tried comes close. Energy feels and plays more like a multi than any other poly I've played.

Top 3 'normal':
1- Energy
2- Mosquito Bite
3- Big Ace Micro

Top 3 'shaped':
I haven't tried enough for that list to be worthwhile, I will say PS Turbo is basically a geared version of Energy, so it is very powerful with excellent grab and spin.
2 & 3: In my limited tests, PS Strike is interesting, not overly powerful like Turbo or Energy, but different in feel than those two with better control and decent power for poly.
SP Tornado is ok, lacks feel, nice spin, average power.

So, then... What are your top 3 most powerful polyesters?

I'm intrigued - what string combination do you have in mind?

I've recently had to switch from a full bed of BHBR (most spinny string I've ever played with) to a gut main/poly cross hybrid; currently VS/BHBR and have noticed a definate drop in spin compared to a full bed of BHBR.

I want more spin, but my elbow can't take a full bed of poly (even at v.low tensions). So very interested to know what combination you are talking about.

Cheers

Not in a million years could Scorpion ever be described as anything close to being a high powered poly.
Then give us what you think are high powered polys... It really doesn't seem that hard and I don't know why you avoided my question the past two times.

Polystar Energy would be my top pick for most powerful poly. It's also one of the softest polys out on the market. Only issue is poor tension maintenance which means every 4 or 5 hours, time to restring the racquet.

Exactly. There is no comparison what so ever.
