Youtek Prestige MP vs Pro

I just ordered 2 Youtek Prestige MP racquets but i'm having second thoughts now. I own 2 Microgel Prestige Pro's atm and i'm really happy with them and they suit my game perfectly. However, after reading a few reviews i opted for the MP version of the new Youtek range this time around. What are the main difference apart from the 18x20 string setup? Does this really give you less access to spin?

Ive only ever used 16x19 so im thinking i maybe should have bought the pro version of the prestige. /

I used the MG pres pro and loved it. I bought and tried the MP version but never could get it to work for me.

I also demoed the YTMP version as well and it's better but I still prefer the open pattern of the pro. The Pro seemed a bit stiffer in the throat and I liked that feel better than the flexy throat of the MP version.

It's a big switch to make without demoing first but you could end up loving it.

I wrote a more in-depth review of these two when I demoed them if you'd like to read that, but just to summarize the main difference I felt, the MP seemed to have its weight centered in and around the throat whereas the Pro seemed to have the lion's share of its weight concentrated in the bottom of the handle. I agree that the Pro was a tad stiffer, but not by very much at all for me. Other than the weight distribution, both frames were similar save the obvious difference in the string pattern. But generally, I found the Pro to be superior for fast, whippier strokes and the MP for longer, flatter hitters. I suspect you could add lead to either frame to make the balance and weight distribution similar to the other, so if you get the MP and you also feel that its mass is centered in the throat, you can add weight to the bottom of the handle or butt cap to make it swing closer to the Pro. I always suggest that one always demo before buying, but obviously it's too late in your case.

Thanks very much for the advice guys! Unforunately we do not have a tennis pro shop in town that sell head racquets or an online store in the uk that have a demo facility available.

The racquet has not been dispatched yet so I will take your advice and go with the Pro version - think the specs would work better with my game anyway!

Thanks.

i'm still not sure if the YT technology is an improvement from the microgel...it just feels too...stiff? with less feel?

Chris, you might be spoiled coming from your TGK's ;)

I really like the YT tech in the Radicals, mine has great feel and great power. I thought yt was not as much of a leap forward in the Prestige MP but still a good improvement over MG.

I guess coming from a long string of Babolats, I don't find the YT to be that stiff....just IMO :)

haha -- the racquet that is "spoiling" me is the PT57A...so nice...

but yeah, i actually did enjoy the YT Radical more than the YT Prestige racquets that i did try...it's not only the stiffness -- it's like a lack of feel? the APDGT is stiff but also has feel...the YT's kind of lack that...

Chris, is your 238.4 the YT painted pro stock version? How does it hit?

yep...pro stock YT Prestige MP...it plays similarly to the microgel pro stock frames i had...just pretty to look at :) haha, but yeah -- i haven't had a lot of time with the 238.4 yet -- i can't put down the PT57As...
