Youtube to livestream wimbledon...A new chapter in the history of Tennis broadcast

According to a report:

"YouTube has been getting deeper into live-streaming sports lately and today, Google’s online video site announced that it will live-stream the Wimbledon tennis tournament, too. The company says YouTube will stream “the key moments of the tennis, interviews, behind the scenes and press conferences” throughout the two-week tournament. The coverage, which will be sponsored by Rolex, will be available on the Wimbledon YouTube channel, starting Monday, June 24.

The Wimbledon channel debuted in 2006, and this year marks the tournament’s first foray into live-streaming the matches
."

Wimbledon is a perfect example of maintaining the tradition but at the same time, keeping it up with the technology. Now we would be able to see highlights and full matches without waiting for someone to upload the videos. While Roland Garros still living in its self-contained, primitive world with no hawk-eyes, no retractable roof, no highlights on Youtube. No doubt, wimbledon is the best tourney of Tennis.

It is pretty pathetic imho, for instance RG tolerates Chang - Lendl on YouTube but not the last game, that game was 24 years ago for crying out loud.

Nothing could be done about it.

There goes my hopes of plugging in my phone at work and watch matches...

If it's anything like the olympics broadcast, it isn't going to be very good......

Still better than livestreamhunter's sources though.

Wimbledon is strangely forward-thinking for the tournament that is meant to be the most traditional.

I think it is a frickin sin that the French Open don't allow youtube to even put up highlights of matches.

Yeah..The only issue would be commentary..Don't know whether it would be embedded or not. For me, without commentary, matches look dud.

Suit yourself. I really look forward to just watching a match without American commentators having verbal diarrhea.

This doesn't seem to indicate they will stream entire live matches. They're only saying "key moments of tennis"

How is this going to work? There are a number of courts.

Might host multiple courts. If I remember correctly, Wimbledon had a multiple switching system on their website where you can change cameras for different live courts. It was either at Wimbledon or US Open.

I don't think that they would just wait for tie-breakers and 5-4 situations and live stream just those games. The language is dubious but it looks like they will have single stream which would cover all the courts simultaneously and switch courts accordingly depending on 'key moments'. At least, this would ensure that we would be able to watch the entire Semis and Final. :-?

P.S. Anyway, being an Indian resident, I will have to watch it by streaming from lshunter. :(

The You tube Wimbledon site will be showing all the things I'm not particularly interested in watching.

Canada is getting all day live coverage both TV & digital in a choice of English or French sports channels as well as evening recaps.

Wait, what? We actually got included in something like this? How did this happen? I'm so used to not being able to view these kind of things, whenever it says "restricted to..", I usually stop reading there and give up.

Is it possible to watch wimbledon online? I consider paying for it if there is a website with high quality streaming. No TV channel in Turkey shows the early round matches :(

So far this livestream thing is a joke and very disappointing imho.

No games, just a table with some commentary and interviews. They showed only a small fragment of Nadal's game from yesterday and a pathetic live view on the scoreboard at that court.

Hopefully it gets better otherwise we can add another chapter to Google's untrustworthy marketing.

took a look at it. it's interesting in the sense that it offers different things than a full live match, and it jumps around to set points/tiebreaks on different courts.

wouldn't replace a normal TV-type coverage, but just something different

It's dull mainly at King Mats Wilander is there giving his biased insight.

I enjoy it for the comments and discussion, and they show some parts of some of the matches in progress (such as tie breaks) all in HD. But avid fans should also have the TV on and/or watch matches you want to see on various live stream sites many of which are free.
