I picked Henin....I just dont think anyone will stop her the form she has been in lately....serena could have elena again in the second round...and heres hoping for a repeat of the kremlin cup final. Jankovic could make some noise...as her draw doesnt look to tough and id she has recovered. but I am picking henin because Jankovic just can't seem to find a way to beat her

It is hard to pick against Henin in the form she is in. However Serena improves a bit each tournament so she just may be ready to take this one too.

I say Henin as well, and maybe a bit of a nod to AnaIvo.

Interesting to note that Sharapova pulled out of here as well as Linz. Is it possible she could get pushed out of the YEC? I think she's sitting in the #7 spot.

Hmmm, *very* interesting, thank you!

I don't know why many online sites report that she has pulled out of Linz, as well as Zurich, since her official site only states that she withdrew from Zurich with no mention of Linz.

Maybe because her site isn't updated? When so many other places are reporting that she has pulled out, I would probably go with them.

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Serena Williams has qualified for next month's season-ending WTA Championships in Madrid.

Williams arrived at the Zurich Open on Monday to discover she was the fifth player to qualify, along with Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Ana Ivanovic.

The Australian Open champion reached Sunday's final of the Kremlin Cup before losing to Elena Dementieva.

The year-end championship ranking calculations are long and complicated at this point of the season because of the number of players still in the hunt, various injuries that can prevent them from gaining points, and the number of tournaments remaining.

The championship features the season's top eight singles players. At least six other players can still qualify for the remaining berths in the Madrid championships Nov. 6-11.

Williams is among seven of the world's top 10 players at the Zurich event. Reigning champion Maria Sharapova withdrew on Saturday because of a long-standing right-shoulder injury. The tournament also lost Martina Hingis, who pulled out with a hip problem.

Williams, who withdrew from the last two tournaments in Zurich, is slated to play her opening match against local favorite Patty Schnyder on Tuesday. Williams lost in the second round of the 1997 qualification stage and won the doubles event with sister Venus in 1998.

Poor Maria. She had dropped to No 8. My advice to her, please stop playing while she on doubtful shoulder injury list. Don't just becoz want to qualify for the Madrid championship and rushing back to embarass herself on the court.

Please get back in shape and healthy asap on the tour next year.

Serena vs Schnyder lost the first set 0:6 and I doubt she'll continue to play. Can't move at all - another injury.
And people are talking about her becomming #1 again. Ridiculous...

Serena could be throwing this match as it would probably allow others to surpass Sharapova in the race to the championships next month. This way, Serena would have an easier path the title in Madrid.

I doubt that's the case and I don't think Maria in her form could pose a thread to Serena (if she's healthy), but this match is ridiculous and sad to watch.
Ok Serena just retired after being 0:6 0:3 down...

Shabazza, the match isn't televised where I am located. Where are you watching it?

Eurosport is showing WTA Zürich...as they are showing most of the T1 and T2 WTA tournaments.

..and I live in the US so I can't get eurosport. I used to be able to livestream it sometimes but no longer. Do you know of a livestream that might work for me? I'd like to see Hantuchova later.

Sorry can't help you, as they cancelled their coverage for today and they tend to "outsource" their coverage of tennis more and more to ES2 of which you won't get any streaming on the internet.
But you can try: http://www.myp2p.eu/Other.htm
it has the Eurosport NL which might be still showing matches today. You need TVants or Sopcast, though.

Stupid Peer loses to Lucky Loser Radwanska in straight sets. I'm selling Shaheer for the rest of the year. Bammer crushes Bondarenko and Serena retires after losing 9 straight games to Schynder.

Hey.....is that your job to post all the results .

Whats really going on?

Golovin takes out Ivanovic 6-3, 6-1. Ana had a 6-1 head to head against her.

I know! But, Tati has been playing strong of late, and she has proven that she can hang with the top when she is playing her best. Plus, maybe AnaIvo was not her best today.

Also, Mauresmo out, to K. Bondarenko!

Dementieva's out, retired to Schiavone.

Dementieva, I can understand because of her huge win last week in Moscow, and you got to love Schiavone win or lose. But Mauresmo, I am hoping that she slowly finds her form for the 2008 season, and can turn things around.

So many upsets in Zurich this week. I'm staying away from this tourney. Women's tennis is much more volatile than men's.

Jankovic would be a good win for Vaidisova, who needs to get her momentum going again. Nicole is off to a nice start too, at 3-0 (1 break).

Dementieva retired. Hmmm she need to play more and to have a better result in order to make into the championship.

Hmmm it seems a good news for me ;) she had retired.

I saw Tatiana Golovin get defeated by Justine Henin in 3 sets. Maybe It'll be a win for the frenchwoman this time. I pick her as a dark horse.

Another replayed final between Justine vs Golovin. Super Justine the champion again. No one right now on women tour able to beat her.
