ZUS Tennis Racquets

Why is there no 100 RA70 18x20 ?
The reason I am asking : I've tried some 100 16x19 frames, and I found all of them too "wild" for me. There was no control. Including the Angell TC100 16x19.
I am wondering if 18x20 is a pattern that is better suited to the 100" frames?
Also, watching the US open, I see a lot of guys with fairly dense patterns in their 100s: Mannarino, Djokovic, Aliassime.

None of them play with a 100! However since you brought up the TC100. I always wanted paul to make the TC100 with 8 mains in the throat or 16x20 a bit denser in the middle. This SOZ may just be it with slightly denser middle and good feel. Also the Striker model is 16x20 with a denser middle. And they do have an 18x20 Custom

There is.

Played a couple of days ago for close to 2 hours. Standout feature for me was the feel which was quite good. Predictable on ground strokes given the connection i felt and a pretty reasonable launch angle. Granted it was strung with a firm round poly so could have effected the launch angle. Anyway, good first impression and it works very nicely moving up and finishing at the net. No issues serving with this stick, in fact it was effective playing a practice set. I replaced string with BK which i am very familiar with so i could really see what the frame can do. I might be able to catch a quick hour of hitting after work since its getting dark a bit earlier now.

I wrote this in the racketaholic thread but posting here as well.

I got in around 4 hours over 3 sessions with SOZ. First it was strung with a round pretty firm grey poly that came from ZUS. It played well and i can tell it had a good connected feel in spite it being a firm frame. Even with a stiff string, i did not detect any complaints from my arm. After that first hit, i got it restrung with some BK @51lbs and i added 4g under the butt cap. I wanted a string i was pretty familiar with and a bit softer then that grey string. Now we are talking! BK brought in a bit more pocketing which was very welcome but again this is a more direct response frame and not a flexy frame by any stretch. Now it is predictable and trustworthy on ground strokes with ease of being able to rally @75% power and hit deep with a heavy ball. This is certainly a pleaner who really had ambitions to be a tweener but alas Zues wouldn't allow it. Comparing string beds, the main's spacing seems really similar to doppio. Crosses are much wider so it gives heavy spin more jump off the ground and it was pretty effective. Versatility is there to be had and i was surprised how well it drove the ball as well going more flatish.

Beam is a bit thicker than doppio so suspect 22 or 22.5, it is not thick enough to be in babs beam land. The feel and any form of touch shot is genuinely good. I loved volleying with the stick just had good stability, mobility, authority and touch that made my life easier. BK just compliments this frame nicely giving it a sightly softer touch but balanced and predictable. I got in some practice sets and the versatility extends to serves and returns. Serves clicked right away although my toss was rusty in the beginning after my hiatus but started clicking after first session. I went out in between and got an hour of serve practice to remind myself ;)

The most profound gap in between SOZ and the doppio comes down to volleying were SOZ is just hands down the better stick. Grounds strokes while they do things a bit differently but they are not far off in effectiveness. Doppio big whip and versatile launch angle and SOZ a more stable not quite as whippy but not frappuccino either and very versatile launch angle still. I would not call it whippy per se but it is more whippy than the frap. Launch versatility i'd even go with SOZ more as i can really drive but when i go higher with heavy spin it really brings the ball down and kicks high with good weight. It also shows up in kick serves were again this wouldn't be a doppio hallmark. Doppio is more flat good targeting and side spin. SOZ can do an excellent kick serve kicking up and wide. Now I also got BK on my 2nd ZUS stick which is also a 100 with a 16x20 string pattern. This one is called the striker and the one i have been playing with is the custom.

Anyone here tried their WepenX custom frames? The website states that these are their "only wider beam CUSTOM frame" but no indication on what the beam specs actually are. Curious if anyone has actually played with these and what your experience has been. And/or their Striker line? Thanks.

The Wepen X is 24mm.

These are custom for the most part. Pretty easy to email, text, or call and work it out. Too many variables for a custom frame shop to pretend they are TW.

Just from a consumer point of view to have beam widths, and at least avg unstrung sw based on a few samples range... this would be awesome and setting the bar even further for what they are doing !

I hear you… but when you get some of these, it’s great out of the box and plays extremely well over wide range of SW. I’ve had mine set up from 324 SW up to 335. Damn if I can’t tell you which I prefer most. At any set up, the svelte beam just cuts through the air. I’ve never had a frame where it just takes weight like this. I seem to have settled on 335 range static, 328-333 SW, and 32 balance. I have both 62RA and 70RA versions. I sometimes like playing XL frames, but can’t find any reason to try XL on a ZUS. 27.25 intrigued me a bit on the 62RA, but ultimately decided it isn’t needed. .25 probably adds 7 KG-cm^2, so would be mid 330’s I would guess.

Beam on the customs is thinner than a Doppio, but I haven’t measured it.

Yes. I’m planning to put the beam widths on the website this weekend. The custom 95 is 20mm the 100 is 21mm and the Wepen x is 24 mm
Great info; thanks. And appreciate you taking the advice of some on the boards here and posting this up on the website. Your customer service reputation stays strong!

If you're in the US, Greg is the guy you need to contact. Seems his website is down but I'm sure he's still trading.

In Europe, Tennis World in Rome is the only supplier but they only delivery to Italian addresses. I had a difficult time trying to get my Italian cousin to forward my order to the UK but it was worth it.

I have 2 surplus 16m 100" in 70RA (White) and 62RA (Black) (27", Grip L2, Wilson shape), brand new, which are listed on the bay at the same price I paid after delivery charges. They are 2 frames (out of 5 that I purchased) that have swingweights a bit too high for me (297 and 302 respectively). Contact me if interested.
