Zverev and Thiem Criticism

Are we top class athletes who get paid $3M for a tournament and tons in endorsement money. These guys make more in a 1st round win than many people make in a year.
The comparison makes NO SENSE.

Yes, we can criticize these folks because they ARE PAID to perform. They have a life that 99% of the world can only dream off. They have one day to perform and do their best.
And when they FAIL Completely and play a match full of MUGGERY AND CHOKING - then yes, they need to be called out on it.
If I screw up on my job, I get fired (I haven't, but I would if I did). Why are the rules different for these guys?

Whichever way you mince it - the fact is that the tennis was terrible. Not worthy of a slam final by any stretch of imagination. Just goes to show how INEPT these guys are compared to Fed, Nadal and Djokovic.
So yeah, they deserve to be told that they SUCK.
Not to mention that under normal circumstances people are paying $500-$1500 to watch the final live. No one is paying me to type on these boards!
I would have been pretty cheesed off if I paid $1500 to then watch that abyssmal tennis.

What the hell , it probably doesn't hurt to throw in a Brad Gilbert style strategy of some "off paced" serves to someone who is standing 35 feet back ! Thieme stood back there BECAUSE it has become more practical to return the ever growing number of 130 + mph serves out there ( Rafa has been doing it ).

Came to the boards to see what peeps are saying regarding this nail-biting final. And what do I see? "Laughing stock"? Second Serve Sucks? Pathetic?

I find it funny how people eager to blast these two dudes hammering it out. It is certainly easy to throw feces at players and their stats while hiding behind the computer screens. You guys (those criticizing) think you can do better? You think your serves can go faster than 86mph after sending bomb after bomb after bomb for four sets? Or that you will handle the pressure of playing in the grand slam final after covid ****-blockage of tennis better than these two players? Or you think your body will hold up better after running around for 5 sets and not get cramps? You will probably not last two sets, that's what I think (personally).

Grow up. Just like all humans out there, both Sasha and Dominic have their demons to battle. But don't be all judgmental until YOU have something to show.

You have no clue what individuals on TTW have done in their lives. None of us are professional tennis players so put the shoe on the other foot. Sascha or Thiem couldn't possibly do the jobs many of us do here, nor would they have the necessary education to do so. There are two attorneys (that I know of) on TTW. Am I supposed to be judgmental that neither Thiem or Sascha could defend a client in front of a judge and jury? Both are paid to do one thing: hit a tennis ball and they're world class athletes as well as public figures. Anyone is free to castigate them in any way they want.

I will admit I feel bad for being critical of Zverev and Thiem after the match. I was angry Zverev didn't win. Felt really bad after I watched the trophy presentation after I made the post. Real sad, feel like I let Zverev down by being critical of him in a place where everyone seems to hate him, though people are warming up to him now.

This place really is a dream for sycophants. I've already had two posters offer to help me out career wise. Luckily for them, I refuse to accept help as I am aware of my capacity (it's not high capacity) and personality (it's not a good personality).

You're right with names like Cameron, Pat, Jaime, Lindsey, Jordan, Taylor, Leslie, and now even Karen.
English sex-changing names are something else, no apparent logic to that. Ashley and Lindsey used to be predominantly masculine names turned feminine in two decades. Pat is rather like Alex though, originating as a common shortening for both m/f name variations (Patrick/Patricia). But then Alex as a girl's name must've felt weird to many considering the rise of Alexa as a feminine variation specifically. Fascinating stuff, this.

If you were only allowed to have opinions about sports and players if you had achieved more than the players you had any negative opinions about, then there would only be a handful of people in every sport that were qualified to say anything. No one on here is a 20x grand slam champ (unless Rog is lurking somewhere), but there are plenty of people here who know tennis well enough to be able to make valid, critical points about pro players.
Yeah, that's like saying you can't criticize a politician because you're not one.

I have warmed up to him a bit and after the first 2 sets I wanted him to win. But his serve p1sses me off to no end and I don't want him in a big slam match if that is the serving level he'll bring going forward.

Yeah he really needs to fix that pronto. But I'm sure he has tried. I think he needs to hire a legendary serve coach or something.

Personally I really enjoyed the final, but I have no issue with those who did not voicing their criticism of it. It makes for fun reading. I can see the point of the critics, too. It was not high quality tennis.

For me, I enjoyed seeing Sascha play so well in the first two sets. I enjoyed the drama of sets 3-5. I totally got how weird and nerve wracking it was for them to be out there in AA with no crowd playing their friend for their first slam. Of course, it would have been better spending four or five hours watching them deal with it a lot better and have amazing rallies every other point, but that did not happen.

I don't think you have to have achieved anything in your life to criticise the final though. I have achieved zilch in my life, does that mean I cannot have an opinion or voice criticism of a game I spent my entire life following and participating in? You can just be a tennis fan and that is the only qualification you need to post here. Without us these guys don't get to live their dreams. If they do, playing those slam finals for serious money paid by sponsors because we are watching, hell, we have every right to say whatever we like.

Agree and They both talked about this. Nerves made them tight then led to cramping. Add to that no competitive high pressure tennis for months leading up to this.
