Zverev finally gets his first top 10 win at a slam

Will zverev finally get his first top 10 win at a slam?

  • Yes (he is a foot taller than tiny Carlos)

  • No (the meme lives on)

  • You have a propaganda problem

Man, the irony. The biggest meme and the biggest meme stat finally gets his first top ten win against the man destined to save tennis.

Good question.
Always an underdog. Relatively highest chances: 2016 WIM vs Raonic (2.0), 2018 RG vs Thiem (2.4), 2021 AO vs Djokovic (2.4).

01 2016 AO R128 15.5
02 2016 WIM R32 2.9
03 2017 AO R32 7.1
04 2017 WIM R16 2.0
05 2018 RG QF 2.4
06 2019 RG QF 6.5
07 2020 AO SF 2.7
08 2020 USO F 3.9
09 2021 AO QF 2.4
10 2021 RG SF 2.9
11 2021 USO SF 3.0

If it had been a night match I might have given him a shot, but I say no chance under the sun, barring injury. Zverev is playing like crap, putting it nicely. Leave aside the Baez match where it was crazy windy and that was clearly bothering him, he has not looked remotely convincing in either of his two matches since then. In comparison, after his own struggle in round 2, Alcaraz has bounced back with a vengeance against two much better players than the ones Zverev has been struggling with.

I think Zverev is being hugely underrated. Yes he has terrible dips but when he has been on he looks very tough. That FH is now a weapon for the 1st time in years and the 2nd serve is much more solid. He moves very well and can grind points out.
I think the winner off this match will win the event . All the focus is on Nadal and Djokovic and whoever wins I think is going to be mentally exhausted for the semis.
The difference with Zverev and Alcaraz with tsitispas is there is no outball in rallies. Zverev and Alcaraz can hurt guys off both wings. Tsitispas can't.
Zverev v Alcaraz will be really high quality . Zverev in 4.

Neither are playing high quality tennis this tournament really. It can go either way. Yea Zverev can win. He needs to take that first set though. Attack him quick right out of the gate. I still got Djokovic/CIlic penciled for the final though. I dont think either Carlos/Zverev will make it by Djoker

There's a 99% chance Zverev will go down with little to no fight, but there's that 1% chance that he'll just enter god mode on serve which in turn will give a boost to his overall game. The sad truth of it for Zverev is that he's reached a point where he needs to redline to stand a chance against a true top contender for a Slam. His base level can't get him too far.

Imagine if both Djokovic and Alcaraz lose tomorrow.
Me and @Kralingen in ruins.
I have made my peace with any Djokodal outcome tomorrow. Hopefully will just be able to enjoy an epic match without any nerves… I feel for die hard fans really as Djokodal matches especially with the 30 second pauses between points are some of the most tense sporting events I’ve seen.

On the other hand I have NOT made my peace with Zverev getting his first top 10 slam win over Alca lol

Zverev was the underdog in every slam match in which he lost to a top 10 player and he will be again versus Alcaraz. You would think that despite being the worse player 11 times, he would have lucked into a win in one of them. However, that's not happening against Alcaraz tomorrow.

He's underrated for a reason. He hasn't performed.

Even if you consider that he shows up to play, I see nothing that can hurt Alcaraz. The younger man is the better mover, fitter, has the mental edge, is brimming with confidence and can outplay Z in at least 3-4 departments.

Straight sets for Carlos (a valiant 7-5 effort from Z in one of them)

I am more worried of Djokovic losing tomorrow and Zverev winning RG, which will turn him into the new #1 the Monday after. Even though it’s practically impossible, same as I thought Cilic would be playing at the level he is now, before the tournament started.

Why is whole TTW obsessed with Alcaraz?
Basically all I'm reading here is everyone is worshipping him.
Couldn't be just me.

Well i know multitudes can exagerate a lot, but this is a tennis forum and he is playing the best tennis at the moment beating everyone, which nobody could do, maybe thats why

I get that he's something else compared to other players his age.I also remember Zverev beating Novak and Roger to win b2b masters titles in 2017 and he was 20.
The hype is just too much and what happens if he lose one match?
The same people that are hyping him up now will be dragging him through the mud.

Yes this stat is a bit meaningless. He has made 3 semifinals and a final so normally you’d have to beat top 10 players to do that but they didn’t make it so it’s more an anomaly of their failures not his. He has been getting to the later rounds of slams consistently but his second serve is a massive weakness to go all the way.

Haha the difference is zverev never played like carlos, when he won he was just grinding, if you dontknow what the hype about carlos is about youu should watch some of his matches, i been watching him for 3 years and even 3 years ago i thought what he did on the court was insane, and he hadnt beat any top player yet, its not about the wins, its about how he has got them, people hype him because they havent seen anyone like that in a long time, i dont care about the hype you know? I just enjoy watching good tennis and i have my own opinions, i get that when something gets very popular in the media you can develop an adversity against it, it happens to me, but this time i was trippin out with this kid long time before everyone was calling him a future atg, which is i thing i dont care about, i dont like prediction, i dont like statistics and such, i just like good tennis, thats why i watch carlos matches, its not even about his age if he was playing like this with 25 years old it would still be the best tennis i ve watched someone outside of the top 3 play in a long time

First of all, I doubt Zverev is a foot taller than Carlos. In reality, If Zverev loses to a smaller 19 year old that is bad for him. Even if he wins, beating a 19 year old smaller guy is nothing to brag about.

As i said Zverev has looked very dangerous all spring at times and I could see his game clicking at some point. Today it has

Zverev is the only player who can choke this match from his position midway through the 3rd. Just like he was the only player who could choke that US Open final against Thiem when Thiem was playing like he was.

And just like he did then, so he will now. Nadal and Djokovic will be playing way past midnight
