Zverev likely to go to court over $475K penalty order for abusing his ex-GF and mother of his child.

This popped up a while ago, but looks like Zverev is infact taking this matter to court.

The Berlin court issued the penalty order last month requiring Zverev to pay a $475,000 fine and released news of its order this week. The allegations say Zverev "damaged the health of a woman" during an argument the couple had in May 2020.

The court said in its statement Zverev is contesting the order with the case likely going to trial at the Tiergarten district court after both parties speak to the court.

A penalty order shows that the public prosecutor's office sees sufficient evidence for the allegations. It is not a verdict, but a request for the prosecutor's office to act while giving the option to spare those involved a public trial. As Zverev has lodged an objection, unless a settlement is reached, the matter will go to a public trial in court.

Meh, this again? I am so over these extra tennis crap stories. We don't even know 5% of what's going on, so we shouldn't talk about it, really... Shouldn't even be discussed on a tennis forum in my opinion

In case he is innocent he shouldn’t pay as this is admission of guilt.

If many girls are accusing him then how innocent can he be ? Must have done something. Anyway, yes he can challenge this in a court of law, thats his choice, he could come out victorious as Johnny Depp ?

No clue whether he is innocent or not but he will know himself and if he isn’t he shouldn’t pay.

Shouldn't beat people up if you are a tennis player, its a waste of energy and will probably cost you slams titles or masters titles etc.
Physically and mentally it can be fatiguing or even cause personal injury, plus the distraction of legal problems.

If you have the time and energy, you should do whatever you want.
But for tennis players, seems like a waste of time and energy when history and money is at stake.

Go to trial.
If he's got some mafia connections he can let them loose on the judge, just to be on the safe side.
Threaten or pay-off the judge.
You can never trust the legal system to get it right.

No, he should fight this and prove his innocence if he has done nothing wrong or face the jail term.
there is no jail term if he loses the court case, it will just be the fine (though perhaps it will be an increased fine) afaik - my guess is it will go to trial so it looks like he's defending his innocence and Zverev will settle with an NDA

Let’s say he’s a low hanging fruit after the initial allegations with the Russian girlfriend. Any woman from his past who would like to make an easy buck will accuse him of domestic abuse.

the mother of his child is "any woman from his past"?

It was not a planned pregnancy and he actually asked her to do an abortion but she refused. The fact is she’s a model with very little success. Having his child is a life long guarantee of regular income.

right so why would she accuse him of assault if she is already on the Zverev money train for the rest of her life?

IF Zverev did not want a child, then he should have used protection. The unwanted child is more his fault than the lady's, iMO

I don’t know. Maybe he’s not paying her as much as she would like? One thing for sure, from what I’ve read, he was never serious about his relationship with her, so the fact that she desperately wanted the child from a rich guy who doesn’t love her is very telling. You can imagine that their relationship was quite tumultuous after the forced pregnancy. I think they must hate each other.

This ! More allegations doesn't mean guilt necessarily.

the fact the german courts determined there is enough evidence to give him the penalty order (which is basically them saying "the evidence is very clear that you will be found guilty in court, but you don't have to have a trial because its pretty clear cut so just pay the fine and move on") certainly suggests guilt...

forced pregnancy? i mean for starters we don't even know if he's paying her anything, they broke up and she wanted nothing to do with him and is raising the child alone as far as we know, meanwhile he was claiming to be part of her life etc... and that the child was going to be the best thing in his life (while shouting out Medvedev and his wife as his best friends which they very quickly denied and DM was pretty annoyed about, no doubt bc his wife is close friends with one of his other alleged abuse victims Olga Sharypova)

I always say there is no smoke without fire. However, these fines are normally proportional to the wealth of the accused party. They are designed to hurt. Half a million is a very small amount in such cases so I don’t think that whatever he allegedly did is very serious.

I read that she was getting paid child alimony but probably nothing for herself.

i believe he allegedly choked/smothered her with a pillow as at least one part of the accusation but i'm not sure - penalty orders though are generally used for "less serious crimes" but obviously that is on the scale of assault being serious etc... the fines are calculated by a formula where someone is charged an amount of daily rates which cannot exceed three hundred and sixty daily rates.

an example from a German law site is: A has a net income of 6.000,- Euro per month. He is sentenced to a fine of 10 daily rates. A daily rate of A is 200,- Euro high (6.000,- Euro ÷ 30 days). The penalty imposed is thus 2,000 euros (daily rate: 10 × daily rate: 200 euros). - so this is fairly sizeable for a penalty order, you can maths it out i guess.

Boateng the football player was fined 1.8 millions for domestic violence. No jail sentence. On the other, Coman was sentenced in France for 5000 euros for similar offence, but I guess the French have always been misogynistic. There are other examples. It seems to me that half a million is really on the low side compared to other rulings in Germany.

depends if they were penalty orders or not

It can suggest guilt but still innocence till proven guilty. He's facing the charges and we will soon come to know the truth.
