Alexander Zverev says he has suffered torn ligaments after rolling his ankle in his French Open semi-final match against Rafael Nadal.

"I am now on my way back home," he wrote in a post on Instagram. "Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot.
"I will be flying to Germany on Monday to make further examinations and to determine the best and quickest way for me to recover."

Now this is truly unfortunate. If you truly care about tennis, you will want Zverev to recover as soon as possible.
With Djokovic being unfairly banned in Australia for a few years, Zverev could win the AO next year, assuming he recovers in time.
He's one of the few guys that could stop the "injured" bull from vulturing slams.

So if you truly care about tennis, it’s because tennis needs someone who can trouble Rafa? Lol there is so much of a paradox going on there.

Ouch

Horrible news for him and even worse for Wimbledon. no Nadal, no Medvedev or Rublev, no Zverev and ofcourse no Federer and who knows, we might see some other top 10 players pull out before it starts too.

For shame

Now thats a real foot injury

That could be his career as a top guy. By the time he returns next year, hes already hitting that past peak phase. Then he will probably be weary on it for a long time when he does return. Well he made good money despite never winning a slam

What Wimbledon is wrong, what the ATP is doing with ranking points is totally unfair and stupid.

Djokovic will be banned for turning down the chance of British Citizenship.

Can the resident doctors tell us how long he will likely be out for? I’ve sprained an ankle before, but I don’t think it compares to this.

Are you the Secretary General of the communist party? Of course he flies on his own private jet, like the rest of them. ;)

This place is full of communists. Like those guys that want women to make less because they work less. Just protecting the rights of the proletariat!

Yeh, since all those boys are sidelined, I’m betting the farm again but this time on my long shot to take Wimbledon this year...Tiafoe!

Really? Source?

You are right to question it. That poster is wrong. His agent denied the claim that Rafa was not going to play W,, and the publication removed the comment. Whether Rafa actually plays or not, we don't know. But at the moment, he has not withdrawn.

People say the same thing about Thiem and tennis is just fine without him. Zverev attracted more negative attention than Thiem by a long shot, has probably done less career-wise, and just like Thiem only really serves to block the young guys on his way to rolling over for Rafa and Novak. Tennis will be fine. I do feel a bit bad for him though, this was likely his best chance to win a major.

Three-four months. Those hysterically claiming "a career ending injury!" are nuts. From the American Medical Association:

"For lateral ligament tears in the ankle it can take from a few weeks to several months to recover – depending on the tears (partial or complete), and the amount of physiotherapy a person does. The fitness level of the individual shortens the recovery time. Generally those under the age of 30 in excellent physical condition can be able return to high impact sports after three months, but can begin training in much less time."

Zverev is an elite athlete with access to the best doctors in Europe. Based on this medical timeline, he literally could play the USO which is three months away, though I wouldn't bet on it. A full indoor season is certainly not outside the realm of probability.

So it's a real injury unlike an imaginary foot injury that allows someone to outlast players 10 to 15 years younger on the most physically demanding surface in tennis

Season over at slam level. Probably will take him a year to fully recover but I think he wins FO2023 or W2023
In disagreement; players with with the physical characteristics of Zverev have never even reached an RG final (at least in the Open Era) and I doubt he will.
And regarding Wimbledon, the German player has not shown enough level to opt for the title there.
Maybe he will improve drastically but I see it difficult.
I think he should win between 2 to 4 Majors titles on hard courts before he turns 30 and injuries prevent him from playing at a high level.
:D
