Novak Djokovic faced criticism and mockery after issuing a list of demands to Australian Open organisers, but Alexander Zverev says it is just another example of the world number one being made out to be “the bad guy”.
I bolded very important words, but will repeat... just another example...

Zverev insists Djokovic was just trying to help his fellow professionals and has again been "portrayed as the bad guy"

"Those were the demands from other players who are in quarantine," Zverev told Eurosport Germany

"We were all in a group chat. Novak was just there as a leader and as the number one player in the world and he sent the letter out. It was not his own letter, it was the points that were asked by other players. He was again portrayed as the bad guy, which is not true because he was just standing up for others."

Yeah, I imagine with Zverev's own massive PR problems, he'd be sympathetic to Novak.

Not sure having an accused abuser of women defending him is the gonna change anyone's view Djokovic (Zverev is being cut off by his coaches and management team for his issues), but they both probably feel like they have been made out to be bad guys in the last year. So they got things in. common.

Zverev says "we were all in a group chat". 3x slam champion Stan Wawrinka called Djokovic out. Guess he wasn't in the chat? But the slamless and ever problematic Zverev was?

Man, where is this dudes PR. This is just embarrassing.
Well, some people don't have PR, and don't want to live in fantasy PR World... But, if you like living in fake PR world you can always look at PR gods... Fed and Raf...

I cannot stand Zverev and he is really my second least favorite player but with all those stupid accusations going on here (calling him women beater etc without any evidence) even I feel the urge to defend him.
They're just desperate so argument against Zverev defense of Novak is possible domestic violence... Even if it's true his personal life has nothing to do with his statement... That's so desperate, but I understand because Zverev interview ruins whole "Novak is villain" story...

Lol, Zverev is hardly going to come out and publicly criticize anyone with everything that's going on with him.

Turds of a feather, plop together.

Both of these guys are absolutely clueless, zero self-awareness at all. They deserve each other.

Also, this is a pretty naked attempt by Zverev to cozy up to Novak now after being dropped like a rock from Team8 and his status as Roger's favorite nextgenner.

So Zverev is lying that letter was made by MANY players and sent by Novak?
Are you aware it's not Zverev-Novak thing? More players are involved and know the truth...
Why can't you stand the truth?

Was Rafa invited to the group chat? If the letter was as a result of grievances expressed in a group chat that Rafa wasn't part of, why say Rafa did nothing to help unlike Djokovic?

That must have been a PTPA Group Chat i.e a meeting. Djokovic has successfully divided the tour into the PTPA supporters and the ATP Players' Council.
Isn't that great? There are two groups, the one that work publicly, so we all know what's going on... And other group that "work" undercover, secretly, we don't know what, when, how... no results obviously...

That's a ridiculous opinion that demonstrates your adulation of Nadal and nothing else.

It was my understanding that Novak was not speaking of his own conditions but more generally of those of the less catered to players. I think we all recognize the tour gives the concerns of the higher-ranked players more shrift. I applaud Djokovic's leadership. Is he a faulty human being? Aren't we all.

Zverev, similarly, showed some leadership by saying something in Djokovic's defense. Is he a faulty human being? Aren't we all.

No. One group is official the other group is not. The PTPA members should withdraw their labour to see how important they are.

I'm not one of the players so don't know. Maybe some journalist will ask Zverev or someone else.
Zverev wouldn't lie about this because he would be easily caught in a lie... Why he would say this thing at all if it's not true? Be real man...
Everyone should accept Novak is doing something in accordance with other players, that must be good for tennis. Leave personal hate against Novak behind...

There is no hate of anyone. The problem is, the PTPA has no teeth unless they become an official negotiating body for the players.

It's a bit hard to organise signatures in social isolation, no?

Could have easily put their names on it. And I think you know that.

Djok keeps hiding behind "I'm doing this for the lower ranked guys" and it's enough already. Any person with common sense sees through

Man the court of public opinion is a strange place. There’s just no pleasing some people no matter what.

That's a cop-out

There is the problem right there with the World No. 1. When you are a guest in a foreign country who are you to make demands:
  • to loosen the quarantine restrictions that have massively curtailed the spread of COVID in Australia
  • for free private housing complete with private tennis courts :-D
It is that level of entitlement that has rightly been called out and ND deserves every bit of the shredding he has received for his leadership of this nonsense. Honestly, if you can't hack the wholly reasonable conditions of entry or residence, don't make demands. Pack your bags and go home!!

Novak is not perfect and no one is saying he is. He tries to do some good with whatever tennis political power that he has in a specific situation and the first thing most posters say is “yeah, but that one time, or that other time.”

It's called an ambit claim in union negotiations, but they were indeed imaginative demands. But so what? They were really requests, in any event.

A request and a demand are not the same thing. Zverev used the word 'demand'.

But the substantive point is if you go to a foreign country and you can't live with the laws and the rules and the regulations, don't make demands, don't make requests. Pack your bags and go home!

He used the word wrongly. If you have no power, then your demands are really requests. Djokovic sent a letter containing no consequence in the event of a refusal.

A letter of demand usually means that if the other party does not comply then there will be further consequences. The letter was basically D.O.A.

Ha ha. I can tell you don't have children. Children make all sorts of demands and regularly need to be put firmly in their place about what they are entitled to. Just like Djokovic and co.

Children aren't really relevant. See the above for further details. In any event, comparing Djokovic to a naughty child speaks volumes.

No. You are a drowning man clutching at straws. Djokovic had to act quickly and he did after consultations. And I think you know that.

Why did he have to act quickly, when you yourself are now arguing the letter contained no demands and was DOA.

So, for a letter without consequence or importance, he had to act so quickly that he couldn't include the names of the players he is supposedly representing? Okay.

Occam's Razor applies here. The likeliest answer is the one that requires the fewest amount of assumptions.

There is no contradiction here. They were in quarantine for two weeks and wanted to see improvements immediately.

You may think it's clever to get your razor out, but it's not relevant.

Whatever the background stories aside - a “representative” to raise an important issue or a demand can be easily nominated, via an email (from each of the involved - since they were already in a what-ever group chat) and all involved names can also be easily added to the so called “demand letter”.

(currently involved a tribunal with a group of properly owners against a developer.... the group representative and documents sent to the persons/authorities were easily done via the above mentioned me this - it isn’t really difficult..)

And there is a whole raft of other threads that criticise players with perfect PR strategies as making the game bland, no? I always try my best, to quote some oddball,

You can learn a lot from Djoke and Zverev... if you do the exact opposite of what they do, you will arrive at the perfect PR strategy.

Children are relevant. They often don't know where the boundaries are until they are trained properly. Just like these uppity players who needed to get taken to school by Tennis Australia and the Australian Government and the Australian population. Before eating humble pie and dropping the entitlement down several notches.
