Zverev's in Acapulco while his ex gave birth to their daughter last week 5,000 miles away. But in his presser, he made the hilarious prediction that in two years, the next gen may challenge for slam titles:

"I don’t really want to talk about the Next Gen anymore,. Honestly, as I said the other day, it seems certain to me that guys like Alcaraz, Sinner or Musetti are going to be in direct competition for the big titles from 2024. For my part, I am 23 years old, I am young, certainly, but the Next Gen now, it’s them.”

He's absolutely right. He's not NextGen and I'm sure he's tired of being called that, just as Dimitrov quickly got tired of being "Baby Fed".

He's right. He is not Next Gen. Another lost gen he belongs to.

Yes, and we're still waiting for his gen to be in direct competition for the big titles.

On these boards it is constantly perpetuated, that nowadays the players have a much longer prime/peak, and it even starts later than usual, but people also agree when a 23 years old says that he is not a "next get" anymore?

What is going on here?

I gave up after the USO final!!! Cannot believe i thought Medvedev would beat Djokovic. I had drunk Corona beer during that event as i felt sorry for bottles on their own on shelves. I now know there are more symptoms than a temperature. Brain freeze can get added to the list.

Not sure about Rogers knee but Rafa and Novak could only play 4 Majors each year for next 5 years and i would put money on them being in every final if fit.
What is going on is new tennis players are utterly inept servebots.

I will never forget his choking abilities, one more time, like what he shown against Joker in the last AO, that's for sure!

Yes it is, which is baloney. Players decline nowadays like they did before. The only difference is that nowadays, facing a 2nd generation of LostGens, declined players are good enough not just to win, but to dominate.

I am eagerly waiting to read the "40 is the new 35" nonsense. Deep down we all know that its coming.

An entire gen has been subdued into worshipping their elders by the ATP.

I find those tribute videos where players have to offer accolades to the Big 3 (describe in one word etc) cringe.

Respect is fine but they are still competitors not overgrown ball boys.

He’s currentgen. His generation failing is why we call them “NextGen” though.

He is not wrong in saying that the generation behind him has already started making noise and the good players like Sinner, Ruud, FAA, Alcaraz and Musetti are moving quickly up the rankings. Players from his generation like himself, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Berettini, Rublev etc. have been well entrenched in the top 10-15 for a while now and it is not a surprise when they win the biggest Bestof3 tournaments.

It does seem like players in today’s very physical power baseliner game need the physical maturity of their mid-twenties before they can start winning Slams where you have to win seven Bestof5 matches. We will see if players like Zverev, Medvedev and Tsitsipas are on the cusp of breaking through to become Slam winners like Thiem did last year - Zverev was two points away at the USO.

Zverev is whining a lot recently. I think the backlash has been bad. Probably getting snubbed in the locker room.

Distant echo of USO trauma.
Need a lot of time to deal with it.

Just watched Tsitsipas give away the 1st set to Sascha in Acapulco! OMG, he was up 4-1 with a BP for 5-1 and preceeded to allow Zverev 5 straight games to drop that 1st set 4-6! WTF? Isn't that supposed to happen the other way around? No wonder these guys will take even more time to overcome the excellence of the "Big 3!" We continue to bury them, but Daniil is the 1st one to break inside the "Big 4's,'" top 2 since Hewitt IIRC!
