His last 3 Grand Slam titles have been somewhat pyrrhic victories.

With his ailing contemporaries falling by the wayside, and a lack of fight from the much-ballyhooed NextGen, these titles that he won weren't entirely representative of the 2020-2021 era.

The signs of frailty are still there. They have increased with every round, and there is minimal reason to assume that will not continue. Novak was pretty unreal sets 2 and 3 against Berrettini. I know Zverev has qualities that Matteo does not - return, backhand, and is much more capable hanging in a rally, but... Not yet convinced. To go from, what is it, 0 and 11 in top 10 matches at slams to ending the run for the grand slam? Seems a hell of a step up
