Zverev to win olympic gold in Tokyo 2020

It will be Novak’s hardest match for a while for sure. The final will be easier for Novak is if he beat Zverev. This Zverev match feels like the real final to me.
Zverev is super dangerous on fast hardcourt with his big serves, great court coverage and solid groundstrokes but will this be enough against a djokovic who it seems is getting better with more pressure being put on his shoulders. I seriously want to see a tight match and see how djokovic responds with the pressure he has to face with each match passing

I think these next gen are just really getting beaten mentally with djokovic being at his peak mentally it's really going to take a herculean effort with great mental fortitude which I doubt these next gen can showcase but with Rafa I feel it is still possible but obviously on hardcourt will be very tough
True point. Although I feel the next generation aren’t far away. The likes of Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev have all been close and had their moments.

It’s Zverev chance now to try see if he can kick start his career with a big win to propel him to bigger things. I have no doubt that medvedev and Tsitsipas will bounce back well.

I think Djokovic, Nadal, medevdev, Zverev and Tsitsipas are all strong contenders to New York. I think beyond them it’s hard to see who else can win. Someone like busta, KK, shaps and berra can be outsiders though.

If his serve is on (big bombs and reliable second serves), of course, he has the game to win a Bo3 on fasti-sh HCs.
I don't want him to, but it wouldn't shock me if he did.

That’s a good point. Yes Zverev has a big game and big serve and weapons. I hoping Djoko can keep winning with ease but I think this match will be tougher to do that. I feel with the gold medal being the one thing djoko doesn’t have on his tennis CV there’s bound to be a roadblock or bumpy point and this might be it.

Yeah djoko is a mental giant overcoming so many hurdles especially this 2021 but this Olympic semi final demon is still another one he has to slay. He broke curses at the french and now it’s the Olympic semi final curse to break. Against a difficult opponent in Zverev who likes this fast surface and Best of 3 format.

Djokovic though is super confident and on a 21 match win streak. He’s serving well in the main, returning great, moving well and hitting his BH and FH with purpose and accuracy. He’s coming to net well too. Zverev has been equally impressive in many aspects of his game too this week.

I feel the sets will be close like Australia. It will come down to big points and mentality. This year so far Djokovic has won every big moment and mental battle. Will it continue or will Zverev be the one to end his reign of dominance?

I see Djokovic the slight favourite but this could easily go 3 close sets. I hope Djokovic prevails but respect Zverev a lot. I respect his personality and game and he’s coming of age and definitely has a bright future ahead at only 24.

It wouldn’t shock me either. Djokovic is the favourite but not a massive one like previous rounds. As Zverev does have the weapons to make life tough if he’s on. Novak knows he has to bring it and thankfully he looks up for the fight no matter what happens and he’s saved a lot of energy in tank. Will be a fun and close battle I think.

If it was during the early afternoon or midday his chances are better if he meets Djokovic in semis. Although the recent scheduling change now says tennis matches are starting at 3pm from now on.

I’d expect Djokovic v zverev if it happened to be the 2nd semi so it will be closer to a night match with cooler conditions which is much better for Novak. Makes the court slower and ball travels through the air slower a bit like at Melbourne on rod laver arena. Would be a tough ask for Zverev.

First though Djokovic and Zverev have to overcome their tricky quarterfinal opponents.
Schedule already out. 1st men’s semi-final 3pm local time. By the time 2nd semi-final (Djoker vs. Zev) starts, it should be 5pm or later, aka an early evening match with no sun but relatively high humidity.

Not the best condition for the German, Djoker should win this in 2 close sets.

Then Final most likely again PCB, that should be a slightly easier match due to PCB’s lack of weapons.

Yeah I feel it will be a close match but hoping them conditions swing it Novak’s way.

Winning Olympic gold and beating the GOAT (at the time) to do it is what accelerated Murray into a grand slam winner. Will the same be true of Zverev?

Zverev has only beaten one fairly high ranked player in this tournament and that was close in both sets, so it is hard to evaluate his level. He is definitely capable of winning, but Djokovic has beaten him the last 5 times they have met.

I was really concerned about Nishikori since he has raised his level and he is Japanese, but Djokovic was phenomenal. I believe he has an 80% chance of beating Zverev and close to 100% if he plays as well as he did against Nishikori even if he does just serve 49%.

I expect that Alexander ''Zed" Zverev will win the Olympic title.

Despite the Djokovic love-in currently going on in TTW, it's imperative that we realise just how important Olympic tennis is, in the pantheon of sport.

It's sometimes nothing but the form of the day.
2018 ATP Finals in London was a good example.
14 Nov (RR) Djokovic vs Zverev 2-0
but 4 days later
18 Nov (F) Djokovic vs Zverev 0-2

True. I do think that Novak has a better chance of playing his A game than Zverev does, but none of these athletes are machines.

Agreed. Except Djokovic is playing better now than in 2018.

As you say, he may have a down day or Zverev may play at his top level, but I think that is less likely to happen now than in 2018.

Recent history suggests Zverev will have a really hard time breaking Novak's serve (5 breaks total in their last 4 matches; Novak has 17), so whether it's a close match that Zverev has some chance to win or a complete rout will depend almost entirely on how well Zverev is serving.

Best of 3 sets definitely suits him more than best of 5 sets. And damn the speed of the court and low bounce. More courts like that please ITF and ATP please. What balls did they use as well?
