Kudos on Djokovic for actually admitting to the positive test, had thoughts he might pretend he was fine. Hopefully he knows he ****ed up and that his anti vaxxer beliefs result in the deaths of many, many individuals.

Hope he learns from this.

yeah not my fault that 99,9% of people will claim that dragons believe the minute they hear it in the news media. Everyone's scared because they were told this was a deadly disease maaaan
THEY TALK ABOUT IT IN THE MEDIA MAN SO IT MUST BE REAL. Also, the governments want the best for us. In other news grass is blue and Nadal didn't lose to Youzhny 6-0 6-1 in Chennai

Im doing whatever is available at the moment - no masks, playing sports, meeting with friends who aren't chickens, no working from home

I think a great statement would actually help him very little, people have made up their minds about him anyway.

Also I'm not all that sure Fedal have that great PR, they just have everyone agreeing everything they do is great.

Fedal always do all the politically correct things, it makes things bland but it makes sure they don’t accidentally shoot themselves in the foot, it’s very difficult to pick on what they say and it helps maintain their popularity. I think that can be attributed to great PR.

I think Novak generally has good intentions with what he does, and he’s much more open and less of a PR machine. It’s less bland and does open opportunities to widen his support base if done right but unfortunately some the things he chose to do does garner the wrong type of attention, some of it deservedly.

Most likely, it was Dimitrov who had it the whole time and gave it to everybody else since he was the one hopscotching from country to country and showed symptoms first. The salivating and celebratory posts over the potential demise of Djokovic is gross in here. Amazing how many emotional scars he left on some of you by just beating your favorite player in a tennis match. A tennis match. Says a lot really.

I live in Australia where my state hasn’t had a case in 2 weeks while nations around the world are reporting thousands of deaths so maybe don’t be a dumb idiot hey?
australia is far down under nobody has got any interest in a large number of ozzies being "infected" so you got the good test to test your people

you can find the healthiest person on earth and have him or her get a positive result from the covid test if you just give him/her the right test, thats why its all BS

I don’t even know where to begin on this. Djokovic holds an anti vaxxer stance and his flippant approach to Covid has resulted in countless infections including Troicki’s 8 month pregnant wife. I’d take Federer and Nadal’s PR machine over the reckless ranting Djokovic has done.

Had Djokovic not fought for a Serbian/Adria exhibition and promoted anti vaxxer individuals on instagram and Twitter in the last 3 months then perhaps the tournament wouldn’t have gone ahead and screwed over tennis for the entirety of 2020. Stop shifting blame. This was Novak’s exhibition from the outset. Not Dimitrov although I blame him and anyone who went along.

This post is disgusting.

People in the real world have been affected by Covid-19. I know people personally who have lost loved ones to it.

Boiling down the intense criticism Djokovic is getting to "wha-wha, u Fedal fans r jus jellus of Novak cus he beat them and will get da most slams" is childish beyond belief, and indicates a total lack of perspective. People are rightfully pissed off at this arrogant and irresponsible man for his reckless endangerment of lives. I never had any problem with Novak as a person till his actions during this pandemic. In fact, I used to feel the dislike aimed towards him was unfair and exaggerated. Turns out I was wrong.

Not everything is a stupid fanwar. Grow up.

I don’t disagree. His views and what he chooses to do aren’t good for his image. He’d definitely do better being a PR machine. I just think that a player could pull off not being a PR machine and still be popular, there are opportunities if one chooses not to be. But unfortunately Novak isn’t the person who can pull that off, it’s self destructing for him.

I hope Djokovic has a speedy recovery and that he doesn’t have serious complications from the virus. It’s also good to know his kids don’t have it. I do also hope that when he recovers, he’ll start taking coronavirus more seriously and possibly shed some of his anti-vax stances.

In regards to this thread, I’m seeing an awful lot of gleeful Djokovic haters and tinfoil-hat conspiracy theorists. You guys can do better.

On what basis?
HELLO?! He's infected? and fine outside of that

we don't want him to infect other people so that all of them can be fine

I don't know how Djokovic will sleep today knowing that he was tested positive for covid and is totally healthy

I mean someone like Stan or Thiem don’t have heavy PR people but are still well liked. Perhaps just staying quiet is a way to go? Not pushing tinfoil conspiracies or pandering to the majority.

What does his anti vaxxer beliefs have to do with what's going on now? There is no vaccine and maybe never will be one. Can we stop talking about anti vaxxers until there is a reality of actually being vaxxed? Shifting blame? Never once have I shifted blame so you need to pay better attention. I have already said he shares blame in this. All that took part are to blame and who said tennis is screwed over? Have the Grand Slams been canceled?
If you don’t understand how dangerous it is that someone (Djokovic) openly says they would reject a Covid vaccine if there was one, then that’s on you. It’s incredivly irresponsible and falls into this disgusting exhibition tournament he helped throw during a global pandemic. What an idiot.

I don't think resigning or being stripped of the Players Council Presidency is a punishment either. It's something that needs to happen because his position is now untenable.

A punishment would be a fine (which would probably mean little to him, as he is incredibly rich) or an extended playing ban (which would hurt him as a punishment).
You are abusing unfortunate situations to a virtual lynching Djokovic, disgust! (n)

Maybe you should talk to the thalidomide generation.

Like most people, scientists endeavour to do their best, but they are regrettably prone to major errors and responsible for their fair share of tragedy.
Of course, but you're throwing away the baby with the bath water (that's a French expression, I don't know if it's a thing in English :giggle:).

Yet there is no....vaccine. So I can't fathom why this is even up for discussion at this point. There is no vaccine to help anyone involved right now.

Bye then. I got no interest in talking to hero-worshipping fanatics who ignore how dangerous their idol is in the real world because they think he hits a green tennis ball really well. I have my priorities straight. Carry on with your worship....

Because he said he wouldn’t take it even if there was one! How do you not understand that?

That would be a good idea
That sounds like a bit of a no brainer and Djokovic should really keep that dishonor to himself
But it's a fair question though. Can the ATP even issue punishment for stuff that happens outside of the ATP?

I sure they'll want to send some kind of signal, but I don't know what they can do. Maybe someone else has a better idea. Paging @Bartelby

Yeah honestly that’s probably what he should do, seeing how he’s been doing things the past few weeks lol.

I think there may be also some degree of desperation on his part. We all know he wants to be liked, but it’s difficult for him currently on that front with Fedal still around. I’m just guessing but he might have felt a need to differentiate himself a bit, in the off court actions since Fedal are pretty passive in that regard, especially since it was pretty obvious he couldn’t win many over solely with his gameplay. If that was the case, it might’ve not been a terrible idea to be more vocal on certain things, but yeah terrible execution on his part, barking up all the wrong trees.

Being fined or suspended is most likely
For what???
Did he break the law?
Did he force anyone to participate or attend?

Yes, the idea was probably not the best at this time, however, it may be that Grigor (coming from the US, to Bulgaria, to Serbia, to Bulgaria, to Croatia) may have brought this and not being tested entering EU may have been a problem. May have nothing to do with Belgrade or Zadar events...

Some other events, like American UTR events, even though overly cautious, have been very safe.
I do believe that Adria Tour was waaaaayyy too relaxed especially with the tournament participants arriving from all over the place...

Whatever happened, happened. We need to accept that he made a massive mistake and needs to take responsibility for it. Most likely a suspension and being stripped from his title on the player’s council as president. It’s nonsensical to ban him from the sport or do anything of the sort. Remember he has done good for the sport through philanthropy and setting up a relief fund for players.

Right now we need to hope him and his wife can recover to full health, COVID is a serious disease and nobody deserves to contract it, no matter what anyone thinks or says.

We don't know that. It's likely he got it in the tournament, from his own team or someone else. He was playing and had no issues. Almost 10 million people have/ have had the virus and the number is growing. There's no reason to try and speculate who had it first. The point is it was a poor idea to have a tournament with no distancing, hugging at the net, playing basket and partying in crowded bars. That's the recipe for how to spread the virus.
