Props to Roddick

You know, Roddick may have lost in the first round, but he did lose to a guy who went all the way to the quarters.

Also, did anyone else notice what Roddick did when he lost? He went over to his bag, got another racket out, and gave one each to a couple of kids. Oh Maria...that's how you build a fan base. He also signed autos....

A small part of me wanted to see Roddick use his new all court game to get further than last year, but instead he tried to grind it out from the baseline. It will be interesting to see how he does at the big W this year.

Roddick's the man. Andreev is really good, the only reason he was ranked so low was because of a previous injury. He's a clay court specialist. He hit like three backhands each set. His forehand was on, and he just ran around EVERY shot.

Yeah Andy!

Yea he took losing real well in the post match also.

and Adreeve was a tough break for him in the first round

wth has Andreev done this year on clay besides the marathon match in DC against France?
answer unless I'm wrong:not a damn thing!

He beat Ferrer in Rome & Gonzalez in Monte Carlo.

To me his performance at the French this year, reaching the QF, beating Roddick, Massu, Mathieu, & Bagdatis, proves he was one of the most dangerous unseeded players in the draw. This wasn't like some of Roddick's other losses at the French.

no doubt about that.
Question is,had Roddick faced anyone other than Andreev would the results have been different?

aw thats nice of him.

During the 2nd and third set at least (the two I watched), Andreev was seriously ripping his forehands during that match, and making incredibly few errors. That match didn't make me shake my head at Roddick, but I certainly saluted Andreev.

I don't think it was the same. In a way, I think it was worse for him, in a mental sense. He got utterly bullied around the court...the number of winners he hit compared to Andreev was ridiculous. It seemed like Andreev was in control of just about every point. #125 player or former Top 30 player, either way, I don't think Roddick can easily dismiss that loss. He'll certainly have a chance to prove me wrong at Wimbledon, though.

don't forget he lost a set to player ranked 252 during the first round AO this year on his favorite surface.

about the rackets, he gets about 50+ of them a month from babolat so i guess he has a stockpile of unused sticks when the clay Court season ends!

Really, he never does good on clay. He probably never will. Losing to someone who made it to the quarters isn't shameless

jerome haehnel ranked 200 beat mardy fish at the hopman cup and fish then 3 weeks later went on to the quarter finals of the Australian open, i do not hear talk tennis users raving on about jerome do you?

A player ranked number 3 is a complete disgrace and only hardened roddick lover s will say otherwise

Igor Andreev was the last player who beat Nadal on clay until Federer at this year's Hamburg. He is a very talented player who was shooting up the rankings until injuries sidelined him. He's had decent results on clay so far this year, and I know many knowledgable Roddick fans who knew he was in trouble as soon as they saw the draw. Yeah, Andreev is ranked 125 right now, but there was a period of time when Agassi was ranked 140 too.

It was good to see the guy who beat Roddick go on to a very impressive tournament.

Roddick has triple of both the class and sportsmanship of Sharapova.

come on mate, you can't be up a set and a break and let it slip like that.Andreev had his tail between his legs and walking with his head down;was time for Roddick to move in for the kill, but no...
oh well,I guess it's just another exit at the French, right:lol:

You are right, it's only his 4th first round loss at the French. His other losses actually include a couple of 2nd round losses and a third round loss. He's really mixing it up.

ala Samrpas 1997-onwards keep in mind though. ;) Atleast he has some not too bad company.

Goran was #125 when he WON Wimbledon. Beating Safin, Roddick, Henman, Rusedski and Rafter in his way. Averaging 30 aces a match. With a shoulder injury.

Amazing what injuries can do to your ranking, right? ;)

ok that's on grass, but that's still a former (short) #1 in the frying pan... another one !

it wasn't such a bad performance from roddick, andreev was just one of the worst 1st round opponents he could get !

What a ridiculous statement. The 125th player just played the match of his life, hitting winners from every place. I'm not a Roddick fan but your statment is just plain stupid.

Rabbit forgot to congratulate him for dropping to #5 in the rankings as well. This thread is serious? Patting him on the back for a first round loss? Roddick fans are dim but this is a new lvl.

Once again Chad proves he can't read. Chad, in your case, a mind is a terrible thing.

Did you not see how well Andreev did? That's ok, you keep going around trying to crap on threads only to have it thrown back on you.

I could answer the musical question Lynyrd Skynyrd put forward many years ago when they asked : "What's that smell?"

It's Chadwixx

Ya acusaso did great a couple years ago coming out of roddicks quarter too. Seems we always get an unknown when roddick loses early, really shows the strength of his draw.

Andreev is surprisingly good. I can't believe what his forehand looked like. He did take Nadal out on clay before and I can see how that is possible with a forehand like his. During the match, he made Roddick's forehands look slow in comparison.
