Any other Fed fans feeling a bit relieved?

I feel a bit relieved to be honest. Nobody now realistically needs to talk about Federer in terms of Slam count. He isn’t coming back meaningfully, I’m happy to step back and watch Djokovic/Nadal and their fans duke it out! It’s not been fun watching Fed be a sitting duck for the last couple of years, I’m feeling good that it’s moving on without him to be honest!

Anyone else?

Every congratulations to Rafa by the way, shocked that he’s still fit enough to win 5 hour finals and did not see him going beyond Fed. Djokovic has been fairly inevitable since Wimbledon 19 but I thought Nadal was slowing up. Not fast enough it seems and there’s a bit more on the FO22 now - if Rafa can open a 2 slam gap he might just be able to hold off Novak for at least a tie in the slam count.

I get what you mean, but I don’t want Nadal to be GOAT. Felt Fed and Djokovic deserved it more. Especially the latter. But I too feel relieved. Because we all know now for sure that life is a ***** and then you die, like Nas has always said.

I don’t think Nadal is GOAT! He might well be holding that place (in statistical terms, anyway) until Djokovic claims it permanently. But he’s put himself back in the frame with this win, that’s for sure. Special.

I have long accepted the bigger reality and destiny. Even if Federer won 21st Slam - he would still get surpassed. Still it would have been a very special win. Its only regret I've now.

Fed is essentially retired and he gave us 20 years of enjoyment. I don't care who ends up as GOAT and am actually happy for Rafa. Not everyone is obsessed about the GOAT debate.

Indeed! I just think it’ll be nice not to hear people talk about it all the time, makes it easier to enjoy the tennis.

The Federer fans have reached stage five in the stages of grief: acceptance.

It's a good place to be.

Some might accept it, but the worst of Federer's extremist fans will pollute social media (as usual) screaming, kicking and crying that Nadal lived up to their own criteria for GOAT-hood: majors count. Now watch how the goal posts will not only be moved, but catapulted out of the stadium, all for...

Realistically speaking, both will end up with 21 or more. It’s inevitable. At this point, I just want to watch good tennis, which is getting exceedingly rare. Federer will always be the greatest in my opinion, which is what matters most. Who cares what others think.

Nadal is not GOAT. There is a lot more to tennis than just 4 tournaments. Also, Nadal's slam count is inflated due to his FO wins. He's not as versatile on different surfaces as Fed and *****.

Fed has reached the highest level of tennis ever. The grand slam count would have been the cherry on top but highest level is more important for me

EDIT absolutely wizarded for the few posts above me saying the same thing essentially haha

That's exactly the feeling I have. Weirdly relieved and happy to not worry about this again. I say this with no bitterness or any hard feelings at all. And thankfully it's a worthy champion and a great rival who's taken the lead. Can you imagine the feeling had it been a Medvedev or Zverev taking the lead after 5-6 years? Lol, thank God that won't ever happen. Besides, I'm sure Fed is super happy for Rafa. He wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Happy for Rafa, happy and relieved for Federer.

The longer this goes on, the more I realize it’s all just about perespective. It’s not as simple as 1+1 = 2.

As a Fed fan, yeah sure I'm relieved it's Nadal and not Djokovic. But would have preferred Nadal at RG for #21 rather than #21 at AO and the potential to add more even moar at RG.

Last time somebody trolled Fed on here after a slam win, they woke up in Mali in an RF hat. Nobody has heard from them since. Id choose your words wisely. The King is always watching.

I actually wanted Nadal to win. I "accepted" it all after RG 2021 basically. I'll always root for Fed when he's playing against everybody, but at 31 I don't need to validate my life through a sports idol anymore. I simply like Rafa more than Djokovic, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Zverev etc. so I root for him in these matchups.

**** the GOAT race, I just enjoy stunning stuff like today's near impossible comeback and still being able to witness an unforgettable slam final in these times.

FWIW, I'm a Rafa fan and for me? It will always be Rafa and Fed as the GOATs. (I'm obviously thrilled about 21, but Novak will most likely pass it and beyond.) In my book? I fell madly in love with the game watching those first few matches between Rafa and Fed. And then for the next 15 plus years after.

The two are forever linked for me. Can't have one without the other.

When I'm bored and want to watch an old match? It's always a Rafa/Fed match. (Of course, it's also always one where Rafa wins...!)
