I have a very tender elbow i use the yonex 880 soft and my elbow never hurts tried X1 biphase now my elbow is killing me. I thought this is a very soft string am i wrong. I want to switch to a string that gives better spin yet the same comfort as the yonex.

It would be helpful if you told us what racquet you are using and also the string tension
BiPhase isnt a soft string..it can play boardy especially at higher tensions.
Try a gut or gut hybrid for spin and comfort as you can. The difference in spin rates amongst the various strings isnt all that great....spin is about technique

The string you switched to is a bit stiffer (less arm-friendly) than the one you normally use (192 vs. 188).

Try any of these instead, all of which are substantially softer (more arm friendly) than your regular string (data from USRSA lab testing):

Personally, I like the Gamma Professional, but I haven’t tried all of them.

I think most of them are decent strings.

They all have their own plusses and minuses.

Its weird I used wilson sensation which is much stiffer on that list and my arm was fine yet this hurt. I use the PK 7g at 67 pounds which is high but did not have problems with the yonex or wilson.

The data is from lab testing, so it’s not necessarily that exact.

They try to set up the testing to reflect the real world, but different playing styles and so forth can change the answers/results.

That’s why I cut off the list I quoted above at 180, even though yours measured 188--to try to leave some margin for error and give you a list that would all be okay for you.

If you have no trouble with the Yonex or the Wilson, then you should have no trouble with any of the ones on that list either.

That’s not to say, though, that there aren’t still others out there that would also give you no arm problems.

You can never know for sure with any string until you try it for yourself.

As I understand it, they measure string stiffness by hitting a piece of string (cant remember how long..maybe 10 inches or so) with a hammer. You all can decide if that is 'real world' or not...i dont think it is.

To the OP. BiPhase at 67 would be very harsh..i can see how that would hurt your arm. Suggest you go back to what you were using knowing that spin production is 95% <or so> techinque

I serve with the yonex and my kick serve has no hops with the Biophase it was jumping so its not my swing its the string.

Performance comes with a price, I guess.

Have you tried Iso-Speed Professional? I use it in a hybrid with Klip Legend gut, but it feels softer than full gut.

Working out your arm will help, I will guarantee that. Try doing some bicep curls with dumbbells. Results will soon follow.

The X-1 Biphase feels stiff and boardy for the first hour or so but after that, it feels awesome. Just do some light hitting to break the string in.

is that alot softer how is the spin and have you ever used the 515 and how do they compare
It is softer, and since it has a small center core, Multifeel's still stiff enough to help with spin. It is firmer than 515, yet is still soft enough on impact to make a comparison valid. Prince's Premier with Softflex is an "update" of 515 with even better tension retention, if that's of any help to you. Here is the playtest: http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Reviews/PSF16/PSF16Review.html. With elbow pain already, maybe you should go all the way and install natural gut, though. If fact, if your elbow's killing you now, don't you think you might need some time off?

Pre stretching would probably worsen it, as it wouldn't loosen up quite as fast (theoretically, anyway). I think one of the softest feeling, good playing synthetics is Alpha Sphere. If you don't want to spend that much, try the Alpha Prodigy (in Red), which seems like a different string than the Prodigy in natural (to me anyway).

Thanks.

Just so I understand this right, you're saying it will worsen it for stiffness sake, right?

Is there anything wrong with prestretching it in general? I have a set I havent had strung yet, and someone who strings his own racquets and is a USRSA suggested having it pre-stretched.

Yes, just go with the Tecnifibre 515! It's the only soft string that saves my arm. The NRG2 is a disappointment after a few days, and the X-1 Biphase is not that soft. The 515 saves me from buying natural gut and going broke. 515 does need to be strung high to avoid a mushy feel.
