I agree. But he shose to stick around, didn't he ? He chose to name Nadal as his greatest opponent, ignoring players in his age group in the process (wonder why ?).......so he placed himself in this gen of players. And he was beaten by them. Otherwise he should have retired in 2014. But he didn't.

You can't have you cake and eat it to. He has played most of his pro matches against both, when compared to other players. Which means, he himself chose to play longer than other players in his gen. He also promoted his rivalry with Nadal, painting him as his greatest rival. So you cannot say that he didn't seek better players as rivals, than those who he started his career with. Since he did that knowingly, he was beaten by them convicingly. That's that. He is not greater than his 2 biggest rivals.
