does anybody know how strict the steroid testing was in in the late 1990s an early 2000's?
but no i dont think he will hit it hard or clean again. I think he is content with being a consistang groundstroker with a huge serve.

He was tearing it up against Robredo at AO 2009 I thought?

Plus I heard he was ripping it in one of these tournaments he was in the past two weeks. I think vs. Hewitt?

guys is still top ten yet gets so much crap here. he hits his forehand well enough to be top ten every year. glad thats so easy to do. people need to get off the i hate andy bandwagon and move on. he hits the crap out of the ball off of both sides. he wouldnt be top ten if he couldnt. him taking pace off the ball isnt like your average hack spinning it in. hes still hitting harder than most guys out there.

^^^^ great post, so many ppl are comparing themselves to the pros when they cant hit near the same spin and heft as they can.

Andy need more confidence to hit that shot especially when he goes for big forehand DTL....I saw he's video on Youtube when he lose to Aggasi, his forehand was so good with pace, depth, and spin...... Nowdays i know it's getting better, but sometimes the problem is he's still hit with too many spin so the ball will land short....

He put so much more top-spin on his forehand now --to get the consistancy. But maybe it is time for him to flatten his forehand just lke in 2003-04 . I remember that was one of his weapon then (with his serve)

Is there nobody on this board that realizes how many more unforced errors Roddick used to make? He used to make ridiculous errors, that he just doesn't make anymore. That third set tie breaker against Nalbandian at the US Open that Roddick won is a decent example.

If anyone noticed, the current top players are aggressive, but they are still incredibly consistent. The Roddick of 03, which apparently had a legendary forehand, would beat himself out of every match today playing with that same style.

With that said, there are still a lot of matches with him that really frustrate me. Sometimes, he just needs to hit the damn ball. I think it irritates me the most against the best players, as he is not going to out-move them or out-consistent them as he does nearly everyone outside of the top 5 or top 10.

NamRanger, thanks or posting that link. I wish I could have seen that whole match.

Based on that video his is definitely improving. Hes getting way more shoulder rotation than he did not too long ago. Hes still hitting it with more spin than 03 but at least he got the shoulder rotation aspect back. Hes upping federer in taht regard who is not getting minimal shoulder rotation compared to how he used to. Lets see if roddick will hit it with less spin.

In the beginning of the video, Roddick's forehand did not look too good at all. It seems that by the end of that match he was hitting it much better with more confidence. Sometimes all it takes is one match to figure something out as opposed to practicing.

That forehand return winner in the tiebreak was absolutely monstrous. There are a few good ones smattered through the match here, but I think he needs to start incorporating the big forehand with considerably greater regularity again if he wants to, say, have a chance at beating Federer in a Slam.

His return is soooo underrated its not even funny. His backhand returns put a lot of pressure on his opponents. His forehand returns seems to be short angle crosscourt a lot of times, and if he doesnt put enough on it, his opponents just rip it down the line. But when Roddick really rips the return on his forehand, it's crazy, like at 5:27 in that vid.

yeah the return in tiebreaker was great..

I think new coach Larry told him that he has to do more with his return game to win more matches against top 5 otherwise he has no chance of winning slam..

He should do that with top 3 and should win the slam with more luck. I mean Roger is so lucky with draw in some slam that god is with him all the time. Roddick need some luck and game he played in this match to win next slam.

He's hitting it way better than he used to, and is alot more consistent than 2003 Roddick. Roddick 2009 is probably the best Roddick in a very long time.

I sort of agree with this. But, I feel he has to flatten out his forehand a bit more. At times, I even think his backhand is flatter than his forehand. It's amazing how a lot of his forehands end up falling at the service line where it's able to be taken advantage of. Then again, he's playing much, much better than in recent years, so props to Roddick. I hope he finds the way very soon.

Recently Roddick has found the range on his FH, and is playing a nice mix of spin and pace.

He hit alot of big FHs in this match also. However, he kept within himself and did not go for too much. He's doing perfectly fine IMO.
