I'm guessing it's their new technology, like Microgel, FlexPoint, etc.

-robJAR
It is a new technology. It uses a compound called d3o which is already being used by Puma in soccer balls and by Spyder in their World Cup downhill ski racing suits as well as other applications. When touched softly it is soft and pliable but upon hard impacts it stiffness on impact. So when soccer players are dribbling the ball it stays soft and controllable but when kicked hard the ball stiffens to excellerate faster. In ski suits it's used as low weight less cumbersome padding--as long as the skier is upright it remains soft and flexible but if he should fall at high speed it stiffens giving more protection. It's also being used in hiking gear as well.

For the new Radical and Speed racquets d3o will be in the throat area giving the player more touch and feel on low speed shots but will stiffen on hard impacts. Thus 'YouTek' refers to the player being able to control the stiffness of their racquet by how they swing. The ad campaign with feature the slogan 'The Power of You'--or something like that. The racquets will also have Teflon grommets and new Aramid bumper guards.

I've seen this d3o stuff and it's pretty cool. With your hands you can easily mold it into different shapes but if you mold it to a certain shape then hit it with a mallet the shape does not change.

it's being used on HEAD ski gear coming up...

makes sense to use it on another one of their products...

from d30 site:

"
HEAD are another new addition to the d3o snow sports family with the launch of the Black Magic ski jacket and Timber pant. The jacket contains strategically placed 7mm d3o™ components in the shoulders and elbows, with an additional supporting back panel. The pants also have 7mm d3o™ components in the knees to provide shock absorption for this area as well as the trademark d3o™ comfort and flexibility. The jacket and pants will be available on retail for the 09/10 season."

Thanks for answering my question, sounds pretty cool:)

Didn't the old Dunlop MAX200G also have that effect? On slow shots the racket was flexible, but the harder you swung it, the more rigid it would become.

Either this is the most elaborate April fools joke or the OP has some cool inside info!!! Really dislike those PJ's tho, the MG range were a huge improvement on the flexpoint pj - this is a bit of a step back imho.

Dont think this is a april joke, it's listed on head official website. and YEa, the paintjob is really a step back, but when you reach such a peak and high standard in sth ( I mean paintjob ), it's not gonna be easy to design the next 1 as good as this, let alone surpassing it.

those asymmetrical paint jobs are really going to bug me. It needs to be the same on both sides or I'll start obsessing.
The asymmetrical black paint at the top of the Speed and Radical racquets is meant to mimic the HEAD ski tip logo/stencil. Get used to it.

No, that's just how the Radicals will look--I've held unstrung versions in my hand. Besides other pics of the new Radicals have been posted in other threads.

Haha it isn't an april fools joke. The website really had pictures of the new radicals and the new speed pro line. The Speed pro pics are still up, but they mysteriously took the radical pictures down... I'm really disappointed that they took down the pictures. Head probably didn't want the pictures up so soon. If you want to see the website/ the speed pro line, here is the link:

Actually, it doesn't look too bad. But in comparison with the MG's, no contest.

Hog time.

Nice concept, although i'm not sure how it will play. Comfort-wise if it stiffens upon impact, wouldn't that make it less comfortable when returning hard serves and shots? I'm just gonna hog as many MG as i can when the price drop and these come out. The d3o stuff doesn't seem like it will play as well. I guess time will tell.

it'd be pretty damn funny and messed up right when the rackets are about to come out, Head's like "ok this was all part of our 2009 april fool's joke"

The Rad MP is right in its usual sweetspot, perfect (if a little light as per usual allowing lead modification). The beam is wider by 0.5 than the LM Rad and MG. A beefier beam should translate as a little more power (I find the MG underpowered) and a little more stability.

The Speed series is all heavier.

so.... djokovic uses none of these??

has he made a switch at all

i ask BECAUSE he has said several times his current poor form relates to getting used to his new racket. the commentators in his match against fed just brought it up again. surely this isn't hype to *prove* he's switched.... why would head encourage a bout of poor form to coincide with the changeover?!

I hope that Chardy doesn't switch to this YouTek trash....look how light the new Radical MP is!....i guess Head wants to appeal to more players....when are the pros supposed to switch?...after Miami?

Those are all unstrung specs. The weight of the MG Radical MP is the same at 10.4 oz UNSTRUNG.

You should not call a racquet trash until you have a chance to hit with it. Then when you hit with the new Youtek racquets you can make a informed decision as to how the racquets performs.

Funny..90% of ppl is criticizing YT frames but not even all the tennis specialized shops owners did test it...classical case of "You don't know who i am" wannabe technicians... :(
