What did you think of it?

i thought it was an awesome movie...great idea to have the setting somewhere apart from New York etc

and I thought the last 30 mins was better than the whole of transformers 2

Just got home from watching it.... I don't know... hmmm have mixed feelings about it. Too graphic for one thing. Think I will stay away from Prawns for a while.

I thought it was a really, really good movie. It works as an action movie as well as a political and social commentary. I might even go so far as to say it should earn best movie of 2009 awards for it's message.

I prefer "message" to be a little more nuanced, less heavy-handed. This film was not particulartly well-reviewed in the US and I'd be stunned if it were nominated for best ANYTHING (the special effects were apparently done on a low budget, and it showed.)

Great? NY Times (A.O. Scott) described it as smart but essentially in the B-movie tradition, breaking down ultimately to an action-chase film. Roger Ebert called is something like a space-opera that loses its coherence in the last 45 minute. Adequate but hardly great reviews; don't know who you're reading.

Overall critical review is very positive. Mentioning two specific reviews does little to support your argument.

I've only seen the previews. How were the aliens able to speak English? Did they have a natural ability to analize and use languages?

Yahoomovies 12 critics have it at an A-. These are well known critics and 12 of them averaged out. That is a great rating.

Hope it runs better on their computer than it does on mine.

LOL. OK just saw the movie and I liked it. Different and not formulaic, if that's a good way of putting it. There is a definite attempt of a build up at the start of the movie. I can't say everybody will like it but would recommend it.

true, the beginning of the movie felt kind of slow to me. however i was tired from 3 hrs of sleep and hit that stage where you just want to sleep and collapse. but then some action happened and i was wide awake :)

I'm watching it tomorrow. Heard it is real gory from a bunch of people. Like what kind of graphic-ness are we talking here:)? Like 300, Watchmen, Sin-City? Or what

Saw yesterday since a bunch of my friends said it was great.

I thought it was revolting and pointless.

I was ready to get up and leave.

Waste of $11.

Saw it yesterday. Loved it. It was unique in its approach to aliens. Rather than the concern being for the humans, the movie deals more with what humans would do to the aliens.

I though it was a great movie. My friend who I saw it with who is South African said that District 9 is a reference to an actual place called district 6, which was deemed whites only during the apartheid and the 50000 residents forcibly evicted.

I also thought the use of the aliens was interesting. If it were humans in their place the movie would have been unwatchable because of the cruelty towards them. Like the scene where they torch the baby aliens....

It was okay. The actor who played Wickus was terrific and the documentary-style look to it was very good. The story, however, was just okay.

I thought "Inglorious Basterds" was the best movie I saw this summer, but I'll withold final judgment until I see "9".

those bugs with superior tech,,, why not just take over the Earth ?

You missed one of the messages of the film then. It was said, they were without a leader, which caused them to not know what to do, acting like drones. It took them 20 or so years to realize that they needed to pick it up and do something about it(hence them killing the main cop in the end) Also, the deeper message imo, was that we are seen as very unsympathetic to things we are not familiar with. Why must everything be solved with violence? For once, aliens are not portrayed as beings with the intent only to kill...the roles were reversed and it showed how sick and desperate we can get. The tier list in the movie was interesting: authorities/feds, wikus' group, the south africans, the nigerians, THEN the aliens.
