Gasquet, far and away, has the best one handed backhand. He can literally hit it anywhere he wants, and just crush the ball. It really is quite a thing of beauty. He's one of my favorite players, and I really hope that by May or June of next year, he'll be back in the top 20 or so. At least he should be if he gets his act together- should be top 10 or so.

Roddick always seems to end up on the wrong side of some of the best one-handed backhand performances (Gasquet at Wimbledon 07, Federer at AO 07, Kohlschreiber at AO 08 ).

I have never seen a 1 hander like Gasquet's in about 20 years of following professional tennis. It is a magic wand.

Gasquet's ralley backhand is actually quite average, his long preparation means that he often drops the ball short, but he can fire winners with his backhand easier than most.

Come to think of it, you are right. But boy when he blasts that sucker it is a thing of beauty.

Is there a connection between long preparation and short groundstrokes? Just curious :)

I was watching the niemenem(sp?) match yesterday on replay and the angles he was getting were amazing.

Eh, even when he drops it short his backhand still has loads of topspin on it. His rally shots usually look pretty heavy to me.

I just watched the match between Mai Xin Gong and Marat Safin. now that guy Mao has a sweet looking backhand, give him time and he'll surpass them all, except of FEDex of course. :)
