Looking for hitting opportunities in Hawaii (Oahu - Waikiki)

Howdy,

Planning on being in Hawaii (Oahu - Waikiki area) in late October/early November and wanted to know if there were any online tennis match finders for that area. From what I've read, there appears to be ample tennis facilities but haven't found anything that would help in playing a match.

Also, any tennis clinic recommendations would be appreciated.

Although Ala Moana and Kapiolani courts may be closer to where you may be staying, the opportunities for pick-up games are better at the Diamond Head courts. Keep going down Kalakaua past the Aquarium and then you'll double back toward Kapahulu; the Diamond Head courts are visible from the road.

Some of the hotels have "match finder" desks but you'll most likely have to be a guest.

Diamond Head Tennis Center...to the best of my knowledge its the largest public facility on the islands and you can pick up a game there. Check the USTA Hawaii site for more info and there may even be a tournament to play while you are there.

Thanks for the replies. Way back when didn't the USTA web site have a match finding program (or was on a bad 'shroom kick at the time?). It would be great to have something like that again.

Now back to Hawaii, are there any clubs/teaching pros that folks would recommend. If I can't find a match, I'd be game at going to a clinic of some sort to grove out my strokes as well as my mind

the marriott resort at ko olina has a tennis center six floors up with a spectacular view. their was a drop-in clinic in the morning and private lessons available. ken the head pro played for a california college and does a nice job with the clinics. the assistant pro is a local girl. nice. i could drive from downtown out to ko olina in 30 minutes or less. the traffic is nothing compared to dallas.

Depending on your transportation, your best bet may be to head out to CORP in Waikele. It's the largest public court complex and there are numerous programs/clinics conducted by the Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation. Although it's a bit of a drive from Waikiki (about 30-45 min) you can always justify it by stopping by the Waikele Retail Outlets complex.

Tennis on Oahu

Aloha,

"D" Conroy is the tennis pro at the Hale Koa hotel in Waikiki. He is also the head coach at Chaminade University. He runs a number of clinics and round robins at the courts in the middle of Fort DeRussy. These courts are semi private, but the public is welcome to join the clinics etc. He also does private lessons. The clinics and round robins are a blend of locals and guests...3.0 to 4.5 levels.

I live in Ewa Beach, and frequently drive in to Waikiki for the Saturday morning round robin. Highly recommended.

Kapiolani Park tennis courts ?

Hi all, I'll be visiting Hawaii for the first time.

I have a question about the Kapiolani Park tennis courts at Waikiki:

1. Is it a hard court ?

2. Do you have to make a booking to play on the courts?

3. Is it free ?
