TW's "Tennis Talk" vs "****************.com"

I usually hang at Tips/Instructions section of TT and not so often in the "General Pro players discussion", but it seems to me that there is much less trash talking and "mug" calling about pro tennis players on this board then over at MTF. Could it be because most of the people here actually play tennis and appreciate how good one has to be to make it even in the low echelons of pro tennis?

Not sure. I couldn't hit a backhand to save my life, even if I could throw up the ball myself, yet I would not call myself a mugcaller. I respect the pro's even more, because finding myself on a tenniscourt, I feel like a 6 ft tall dwarf on a soccer pitch, grasping at straws.

Not sure why it is. Maybe this place is less crowded as well? There are some idiots around here but in general it's not too bad.

Don't you think that anyone who wastes his time posting on a forum has at least given it a shot himself once or twice? Unless you are physically handicapped to do it, I think you'll always go out there and give it a shot, if you enjoy tennis on tv.

WHAT? You mean there's a forum with more trash talking, knuckle headed, juvenile, know-nothings than TT? I'm stunned!

I don't know. Such is my impression. I might be wrong. Have you ever visited MTF? It is especially bad with the young players struggling to come up the rankings.

I've heard of Men's Tennis Forum. I haven't been there. But, I've never seen a more acrimonious internet forum, of any kind, than TT. To be fair, there are a few very, knowledgeable and civil, posters here on TT. But, they are in the vast minority in both respects.

Never been on that other forum but for me I found this place through needing to buy some equipment and I'm guessing a lot of other people did the same which would mean here would have a lot more actual tennis players here than there.

The forum just happened to add some entertainment and interesting discussions on everything to do with tennis to go along with it :)

They even have a thread "mug of the month". What pisses me off is that all those threads are being created by nobodies who have never in their lives put 1/1000 of the effort, the number #500 ranked player has put in his tennis, into anything worth mentioning.

They are two different forums with two distinctly different flavors. MTF is big, with more members and many more subforums. It feels big, it's like visiting New York City, you'll find a great variety of people but the morons will probably stand out. It also has a far larger population of people who are not from the US, so it has a more international feel to it. There are definitely 'cliques' there amongst users who spend the most time there, talk to each other, and have met in person. There are also very distinct player fan groups, even moreso than here.

TW grew from a US business and it has a smaller more intimate feel to it. It's also moderated differently and there is a different sense of decorum here, most of the time.

Different strokes for different folks. :)

It's not even a contest. It's like Roger vs Rafa!!
LOL

I once visited that place a few years back, was totally confused. The pages are too "noisy", too many huge images, sigs etc.

I find this much nicer, more intimate, and has great posters like you and Stringer and Teh Poap.

Yea MTF has way more trolling than this place. I prefer this forum by a mile! Heck I prefer watching Djoko-Nadal matches over going to MTF

It's simple.

TW is (mostly) for people that want to talk about tennis. Sure, there is some trolling here and there but this is the internet, what do you expect?

MTF however is THE place where trolls hang around and in this case they troll the tennis world. The word MUG gets thrown around like crazy, everything about today's tennis sucks(weak era and all that other BS) and there are so many freaking trolls that when you read a somewhat sane and balanced post there you are genuinely surprised.

MTF is a place where you visit for the lolz. Among the rampant and mostly unfunny trolling there are some genuinely good threads though.

The trashtalking here seems cyclical. However there is always something to be learned and I find some of the posters here very knowledgeable.

If you're a Nadal fan, this is a very tough place to be. Constant trashing of Rafa and his fans on this forum.

If you are a fan of anyone else, this place is just as tough. Constant trashing by vernonbc about anybody and anything but Rafa and his fans.

Not wanting to get too personal about anything here, but if you don't like the biased views in favour of other players, don't be so incredibly biased yourself.

On the other board, some posters like Echoes or Groove are not bad, some others post on both boards. This board is getting worse, too much bad mouthing and vitriol. Some years ago, the overall standard was much better. I assume from the writing styles, that some real well known tennis writers and experts have posted on this board. There are many valuable informations and statistical studies in the archive section, more than in most written publications. Its a pity, that the archive has no real system or some index register.
