Babolat starting clamp

All the Babolat starting clamps are second to none, and work great.
That said, among the Babolat's my favorite, is the famous "red" one pictured below (third from the left). The black one you refer to is the same as the blue one pictured on the far right.
All of these have ample holding power, and other than the first one pictured on the left, have the eyelets to enable the stringer to use as a bridge.

by the time the cheaper clamps have stopped working and are too loose to hold anything the babolat clamps will keep going strong. i've had mine for years and it still grips as good as the day i got it
What are opinions on the red R-A-B starting clamp, which has narrower jaws than Babolat's wide jaw blue/black?

BTW Alpha's red starting clamp, which is very good, has very wide jaws.

Can someone explain how to use the eyelets to use as a bridge? Even better...a picture would be awesome.

Where can you buy a Babolat starting clamp?
Though there are some e-tailer sources for it, directly from Babolat is possible.

I have had my "red" clamps for about 20 years and they are still as good today as the first day. Still the same springs in them. I couldn't even start to guess how many frames I've done with them. Anyone thinking of a lifelong clamp doesn't have to look further.... I sound like an advert !! LOL

Straight from one of the most well-known stringers in the world. If this doesn't convince one to spend an extra 20 bucks on a babolat clamp, then nothing will.

LOL, i was thinking the same thing!
i can open a beer bottle with just about anything. not impressed!
on a lighter not, i have only a gamma and an eagnas starting clamp.
i consider the eagnas superior, but the gamma is sufficient.
I'm sure either one would open a beer bottle, but that's what
cigarette lighters are for.
i would like to own a babolat clamp, maybe someday...

I've never used a Babolat but as is obvious from the responses (Mr. Parnell in particular) their quality is very difficult to match.
I have owned the two spring Alpha/RAB starting clamp for the last 8 years and it has never failed me. I'll have to order a Babolat next, just to add one of these legendary beasts to my collection.

I bought a Babolat clamp by in the 70s and it is still going strong. I got it to do the 50/50 pattern Babolat came out with. I quit using the clamp when I stopped doing the 50/50 pattern and let it sit collecting dust for probably 10 years. Then I started using it again for Starting crosses. Then Tying knots. Then as a bridge and before you know it I found I could not string with one. It is like a third (and fourth) hand. When I bought my Gamma machine it came with a starting clamp. Now I have two and wonder how I ever got along without one. LOL
Most of the time I now use two Starting clamps to string a racket. For the crosses I use one to start the crosses and that top cross is held by the starting clamp and tied off last. When I get to the bottom I use the other to tie the bottom knot. I may get another to find out if I have another reason to use one. I don't have a spare right now if one breaks.

I bought a Babolat starting clamp. It is easier to open than the Eagnas Pros Pro starting clamp I have, but three times the price. The Babolat starting clamps were out of stock for almost all of 2012.
