1 Djokovic - At least the finals.
2 Federer - Quarterfinal or semifinal stage.
3 Murray - Semifinal or final stage.
4 Nadal - Quarterfinal or semifinal stage.

It's tough to say. I think the maximum Nadal can hope for is QF's. I don't see Djokovic winning it again for some reason. Perhaps a SF exit. I don't see Federer winning it either, but nobody has ever backed up their first slam with a second in the next one, so history is against Murray as well. I think both Federer and Murray make at least the semis, but I think we could see a non top 4 champion. Perhaps Del Potro. He seems to be playing well right now, and if carries over I think he could win it.

Delpo has never done well at the AO. Never past QF. In those 2 QF's he got trashed horribly by RF.

Nah, I don't think so. It will be one of the top four winning the AO as far as I can see. Not sure which player it will be because they seem to be all over the place right now and inconsistent.

Yeah? So? He had never done anything really before winning the USO in 2009. He also made RG SF that year, with Fed on the ropes, and he hadn't done anything there before then either.

Let Del Potro win a Masters 1000 first. If he can't win this tournament now with the top four absent or out, he should retire.

Sure, fine, but again, he didn't have a M1000 when he won the USO did he? I know Delpo is a bit of an outsider pick, but seriously. Everyone's always big 4 this and big 4 that. If one of those guys wins it's not surprising, but the truth is it's probably never been easier in this new "big 4" era. Nadal will be coming off an injury, Federer's worst chance of winning outside the French is at the Australian. I could see Murray winning it, but as I said history is not on his side, and Djokovic will be the favourite, but I just have a feeling he won't win again. However if I had to bet money on it, and I had to be right, I'd pick Djokovic.

You really think Nadal will get that far? After such a long layoff and on hardcourts? I doubt it very much if he makes the 4th round, and I may have been too generous with that prediction.
You think Nadal is going to have a first round exit?

Thought I'd bump this seeing as Nadal has returned to practice.

I think that Djokovic and Murray are pretty well locks for the semis, quite possibly the final if they're in different halves of the draw. Fed should join them, but I'm seeing Rafa losing in the quarters unless he gets a complete cake draw. Hopefully he'll do better though.

3. Murray- semis or finals
4. Nadal- round of 16 or finals

Nadal - W
Federer - F
Djokovic - SF
Murray - QF
Tsonga- SF

This is my prediction and I'll stick to it.

Murray hasn't failed to make a semi since 2009. Tsonga hasn't made a semi since 2009. What's likely to change this pattern?

Which tournament suits the top 4 best?

The slow court slams - Australian and French - obviously suit Nadal and Djokovic more

The medium paced court slams - Wimbledon and the US Open - suits Federer and Murray more.

And that is how I believe the finalist will be in 2013.

i think the top 3 will make the semis, no surprises. nadal will be rusty still and could lose in the quarters. the last semifinalist will be either him, ferrer, delpo, or berdych. (slim chance for tsonga)

hopefully nadal won't even make it to australia... halfway between manacor and melbourne would be fine.
(somewhere around the maldives ? time to feed the sharks...)

Del Potro actually has a decent shot at winning the AO.

Del Potro won't get through Murray or Djokovoc on today's AO surface. He can't hit through the court and the defenses of Murray and Djokovic are too good. Del Potro has a much better chance against Nadal.
