Roger Federer sat in Novak Djokovic's seat

You realize that we are talking about the WTF and the "seating rule" that applies there.
You also realize that we are talking about the final against Djokovic, the opponent Federer does not like and the opponent that took away the #1 spot from him and the opponine that has been kicking his *** the most lately.

How, do not get too emotional about your Swiss hero, but use your brain and add things up and it will become clear to you why the stuck up did it.

Yes, I do not like Federer, however, I fully acknowledge his great contribution to tennis and his game greatness.
Outside of the court, he is a totally different "contributor"

How do you explain this, Sherlock?

Federer is arrogant and dislikes Djoker to the core.

that's why he did it on purpose.

If Djoker had done the same mistake, TT would have been down by the amount of posts by Fed fans complaining about Djoker and his cheap behavior to grab attention!

You do know that the WTF was known previously as the Tennis Masters Cup? Clearly in the second link Federer takes the seat on the umpire's right.

I assume the USATODAY (first post) just came up with the story to blast Federer and to make "their favorite" Djokovic look better?

I don't know what the "rule" is, however, they say it is "traditional" which equals RESPECT. Taditionally, you let the "ladies first", but there is no written rule -- it is pure respect. I assume that logic does not apply in your village...

Additionally, DJOKOVIC towel was on the left seat which should be a clear indicator.

Some would care, some (arogant) would not give a crap...

Yes, this forum is Federer's paradise! :)

Again, can anyone confirm this habit?
Up to this thread, I have never heard of that. Although it is of course funny that he uses the seat with the "Novak Djokovic"-Towels. Did he use those too? :D

Nice try ("I assume that logic does not apply in your village" - HILARIOUS) but you still haven't answered my question. Why did Federer take the chair on the right in the Fed-Ferrer match at the 2007 Tennis Masters Cup? There are a few possible answers:

1) Nobody gives a crap about which seats to take, you take the one you like.
2) The rule (which no-one has confirmed so far - I myself have been following tennis for years now yet I've never heard of this) that the higher ranked player has to seat on the left was introduced after 2007. If this was true, it could somehow explain Federer's behavior as he was used to sitting "wherever he wanted to" for years.
3) He took the wrong seat but didn't notice it, not that it mattered.
4) He took the wrong seat because he's humble and wanted Ferrer to feel better.

I did answer your question, the problem is that you need tome to comprehend the answer...

I said -- I DO NOT know what the rule is and why someone else sat where they did. Maybe it is a "new tradition"?
However, a reputable source, like USA TODAY, has released the story, not me, not the OP.
Maybe it is the London tradition?

Nevertheless, the article claims it to be the tradition, clearly Novak's towel, visible to everyone, was there, right in Federer's face.

Did he do it on purpose -- I cannot claim it a 100%, however, knowing and learning his behavior over the past years, I'd say -- Federer knew EXACTLY what he was doing.

Nadal kicked Federer'a ass even more in 2008 when he took the top spot from him yet these 2 are very respectful to each other (I wouldn't go as far as saying these 2 are friends but still respectful). Has Federer done the same to Nadal at the WTF? They played in 2010 and 2011, why couldn't Federer take his seat?

Why react to Roger? Best to ignore it and say I don't care, I will beat you anyway!

And in a best way -- let him have breaks in each of the sets, have a hope, and then SNATCH it -- it hurts more.
I bet you Fed had a bag of Lindt after the match to calm down...

Too much class in tennis nowadays. Roger could kick Djoker's chair over and Novak would pick it up and sit without saying a word. Where is the bloody violence?

Well, it was great when Novak smashed the RG bench with his racquet! Haha! :). I wouldn't call that classy. And Nalbandian's frustration at Queens. Funny! :). I love racquet smashing, always brings a smile to my face.

People get so up in arms about those incidents though. It all depends on which player they hate.

I wish Djoko and Fed would have gotten into a fake standoff about the seating arrangements. That would have been good.

Like Federer will look very closely at the towel he's sitting next to.. Jesus, some people. You need a girlfriend, bro.

Isn't it weird that no-one has confirmed this on TW? There are people who have watched tennis for years now (myself included) yet never heard of this "rule". Here's another example I mentioned earlier: Federer "taking the wrong seat" in the final of 2010:

It could be that the Article is a total BS and then this thread is irrelevant.
However, if proven to be the tradition, than, we know Federer does not care about traditions...

This article is total BS until confirmed by another source. I started to read it more closely and here's the result - just look at the first sentence:

"Traditionally, the bench to the left of the chair umpire is reserved for the higher-ranked player in a tennis match."

In a TENNIS MATCH, it doesn't say anything about the WTF. Since someone else came up with another example (Roddick sitting to the umpire's right in a match against Benneteau at the US Open), it confirms that this is BS.

Reading further:
"I bet if Federer met the president and someone in the room said, "Mr. President, there's an urgent call for you," Federer would dig his phone out of his pocket to see who was ringing him."

takes away all the credibility that the journalist who wrote this had. If this is not biased then I don't know what is.

wow freeze the vid at 4:21 and federer sits in djokovics near chair..when djokovic comes out he goes to the far chair past roger and federer has moved djokovics towel over :twisted:

when did you catch that?

Maybe there were only towels with Djokovic's name on them so Federer got pissed off and sat on the wrong seat on purpose, haha?

Lawl, I'm not a diehard Federer fan as you probably assumed on the basis of me defending him (you probably think everyone who doesn't hate him is a fanboy) nor I'm interested in his non-tennis-associated life. I just don't like ir when someone disses him for no reason. It's just blatant hatred and Achilles82 is a well established Federer hater (or a Djokovic lover who feels the need to justify Djokovic's slow start in the match)

At least we agree on the last part. Every big news has to be confirmed.

Just watched some random tennis vids : I saw many videos with lower ranked sat in the left chair !

Wimby 2012, Federer [2] Murray [4] : Murray on the left one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3Ox9t7I_vQ
Madrid 2011, Nadal [1] Federer [3] : Fed on left chair
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH6OspmA-O4
Madrid 2011, Nadal [1] Djokovic [2] : Djoko on the left chair
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpZuCJAkHII
etc.

At the WTF, Federer could just has been led by the little girl there and didn't noticed there was Novak's towel on, before someone quickly took it to put them on the other bench !
Beside, the organizers could also had make the mistake and put both players towels on the wrong bench in the first place !

This is exactly what happened. She let go of Fed's hand next to the left seat. It's not like she led him to the right seat but he refused to go there.

I'm surprised that no one has taking an example directly from the WTF considering that this is where the match was played.

Sorry I call bull on the article

Did nobody see the little girl was the one who let go of his hand, and Fed just sat down. Please, just trolling.

Hell you can read Fed's post match interview and he was very complimentary of Novak, none of his usual sore loser crap. Here:

Q. You mentioned on the court you couldn't have played that much better. You played many finals at this event. Would you say, quality‑wise, this was one of the highest quality finals you've played in this event?
ROGER FEDERER: Yeah, I mean, it's hard to say. It's matchups, again. I have to play so different against Rafa than I have to play against Novak. I have to play different against other players. It's unfair to say which one has been the best one.
I think the quality was good, you know. I shouldn't have been broken as often as I was broken today. But then again, that obviously has something to do with Novak, as well, you know. Overall, I think it was a great match. Yeah, I think I played very well. It was extremely close today.

Q. Sometimes from the outside we see the match differently from the players. You were attacking all the time, very aggressive. 30 winners against 18. But 42 errors against 28. 24 were forehand errors. Do you think that is because you were trying so much to take initiative, you were taking so many risks and chances that at the end, you were missing more? You made four forehand mistakes when you were up 5‑4, 40‑15. For you, it's very uncommon. I've never seen you miss so many forehands. Were you tired a little bit in the second set or not?
ROGER FEDERER: I don't read into stats a whole lot anyways. I mean, I think there, you have to talk about me serving 125 up the T three or four times, and him bringing back a bullet. I think this is where he gets me on the back foot. Then for me to miss a forehand after having three great reflex half volleys from the baseline, to eventually miss a shot where you're a little bit under pressure. It's called an unforced error. Look, for me, that is not worth the debate.
Obviously I was going to try to go after my shots and not just hand it to him. That's just how I play tennis. If I have 80 errors and I win the match, I don't care. I really don't. For me it's important to play the right way. I think I did that today.
Sometimes I wish I wouldn't have missed and I surprised I missed. But then again, it's all a matter of how does the ball get to you, what has happened in the last five minutes, two minutes, 30 minutes. You just have to absorb all of that, compress it into that one decision you have to make when the ball comes to you. Sometimes you think there is a gap, there is not a gap, then you push and miss it by a little bit.
Yeah, I mean, I think with all those errors, I still played a good match. So I'm happy.

Etc etc.

You want Novak to get into a fist fight or what? If that were to happen, TT will go down with messages by Fed fans claiming how un-classy Novak is.

Either way you look at it, Fed is always correct and always holds the exclusive rights as to what he wants to do on court.

His supporters will back him to the hilt whether he is correct or not.

Fed the attention grabber should be penalized for his selfish act! He was clearly n0.2 and deserved to occupy the right side of chair umpire. No wonder Novak lost the first 3 games straight due to this distraction :p

Thanks to Novak for shooting down the arrogant old man! Talk about Trolling :p

I like some mental games. It's not cheating, just try to rub the other the wrong way a little. Like serving second against Rafa at Madrid 2009, or staying in his seat until Rafa finally walks out. I don't mind these kind of things, as long as he stays within the rules. I don't think there's a rule that forbids him to take this bench.

He did not sit in the wrong place. The towels was etched with their name on it and it was on the bench before both player show up.

That's because your mind only registers what suits you. It has been posted in this thread already, but there you go again: 2007 WTF final, Ferrer sat on the left of the chair. So either he was ranked higher than Federer at the time and the powers-that-be who deal with the rankings lied to us big time, either this "tradition" is pure bull...

Roger can sit wherever the hell he wants for one thing [Respect]. Second, by the looks on his face he seems to not know or bother which chair he sat and third i suspect the article is complete BS, i cant find any other articles relevant to this in google and the op seems to be trying very hard or hell bent to search for federer's articles only with an intention of trying to bring him down.
