Murray is on the up

Hi Haturz,

I know you've been pulling the head off it/rubbing it sore since Murray lost to the world number 1 last night and I've enjoyed reading your opinions on the subject (why some of you aren't coaches I just don't know) but thought I might counter those opinions with some facts (and a couple of opinions of my own):

1. Murray has made final at 4 of the last 5 'big events', winning 2 of them. For comparative purposes, nobody else made 4 finals, only Nole won 2 of them.

2. Murray is officially world number 3 and de facto world number 2 (OK, the last one was an opinion - but one supported by plenty of evidence).

3. Murray is on the up.

Now I know that he's ugly, that he swears, that he has bad teeth, that his Mother is awful, that he's not in the same league as the other guys, that he's a pusher with no weapons and that he is one slam wonder who only got that one because of wind.

But none of that gets away from point 3. He's on the up and he's likely to win more slams.

That, my hateful chums, is the cold reality of the situation. You can wail and you can gnash your teeth. Won't change anything.

PS Congrats again to Nole for slam number 6 and the first open era AO threepeat. He Boss.

his Mother is awful

I blame Murray's mother for yesterday's defeat.
Murray said his mother was a hopeless cook buying ready made meals when he was young etc so Murray's feet didn't develop as strong as they should have due to malnourishment.
A valid excuse I say.

Cheer up Batz. Haters will always be there, lurking in the shadows even if Muzza wins, they will still find some kind of excuse to make you feel bad.

Look at Djokovic for example. He was once known for quiting. Now he's fighting for every single point even in pain. Djokovic proved he can outlast anyone in slams under extreme conditions. Sadly, now they call him Lance, instead of quitter...
Haters will hate.

Hi mate - thanks for the support, but I'm cheery enough thanks. As per my post, there's a lot to be cheery about! :)

LOL, Batz laying down the law.

People can say what they want really but anyone who knows anything about the game is well aware that barring some serious career threatening injury Murray is very likely to win more slams.

BLINKY! Where've you been mate? Was beginning to think you'd retired. It's been a weak Murray trolling era lately. Bawss tries hard, but bless him - he lacks your comedic talent :)

Nice to see you back Blink.

batz,

Haters will always hate on Murray - it's the same in another popular site #TF as a prime example where Fed, Djoko and Delpo is worshipped and can do no wrong. Murray and Rafa are the ones who get the most flak.

It wasn't long ago when glory hunters hated on Djokovic but now that he is the no.1 player, suddenly he has taken over the mantle of golden boy of tennis. People have a short memory as they were the same guys calling Nole a 1 slam wonder/quiter not long ago.

I'm in the opinion that Murray is making progress in the right direction and even though he couldn't get it done against Nole, at least he has now beaten Federer in a slam which will give him a boost should these 2 meet again in the remaining 3 slams.

I'm positive that Murray will be in contention to win 3 out of 4 slams for the next 3/4 years.

I don't believe it's a particularly weak Murray-trolling era. You must have missed my genius thread on Murray's new record he set on Sunday. I honestly can't understand why that thread was closed but if you had seen it you would have revised your statement about the weak trolling era for sure.

I received word this morning from my sister saying that she had received a hate-filled e-mail from tennis warehouse (I used her e-mail address to set up my account back when I didn't expect to stick around) and although I haven't read it yet, I am willing to bet any money that it's from either you, Mainad or Fedex. While it's gratifying to see the fruits of my trolling labour, it is also worrying to remark the insecurities of some posters on this forum.

Murray is playing well and certainly has a chance to add to his resume, he needs to be wary of certain players.

For example John Isner with hise huge serve and big power game can take it to anyone on a given day, Murray has beaten him in the past but the fact of the matter is Isner has taken out Federer and Djokovic, if he is hot then Murray could be in trouble and thiis could stop him in his tracks to add to his one GS title.

Murray definitely on the up. But what of Nolezy ? Is he at the same level as he was last AO.

Judging that Muurya took him to 5 last year, I expected much better this time. Has Nolay plateaued ?

So what car did you buy, batz ? Color ? Are you happy with it ?

On the up indeed.

I'd say it's quite likely that he'll be the 2nd seed at RG. When was the last time that both Fed and Rafa were out of the top 2?

Djokovic looked better than at the 2012 AO but not as dominating as at the 2011 AO.

2011 3 slams
2012 1 slam
2013 2 slams?

Firstly, you outright admitted you do nothing but troll, thus a ban should be in order.

And secondly, have you ever noticed that it is only ever you who proclaims that any of your posts/threads are 'genius'? I think there's a message there, but I can't quite figure it out... I'll let you ponder it.

I completely agree he's on the up. If he doesn't get a slam this year, I'm sure a lot of people will consider it a sub-par year, but I'd be happy to see him win some Masters since he didn't get any last year. He's the player that makes me the most nervous as an opponent for Djokovic.

Because Novak was the better player on the day. That's usually why people lose.

You must have thought I was asking with an ulterior motive, hence the terse reply.

Let me put it this way, do you think he could have gone on to win it if he'd gone up 2 sets to nil? I haven't had much time to follow pressers etc. (little one's taking up all of my free time) but did Murray mention some turning point in the 2nd set?

Apologies for the terse response Russel - I thought you were going to be facetious.

He had Nole at 0-40 at the start of the second set and didn't break, I guess you might say that was a missed opportunity - but Nole missed 5 bp in the first set and lost it, so swings and roundabouts. Nole won the last 2 sets with relative ease.

I think that when you get right down to it, Nole is simply better on that surface. I think Murray has a slight edge on grass and there's little between them at Flushing Meadows (I don't need to mention RG).

I would obviously have loved for Murray to have won a second slam yesterday - but I'm not going to have a go at him for not doing what nobody else has managed to do in the pro era. In fact, Murray can take a crumb of comfort that he has done better than any other 1st time slam winner has done in the open era.

I see where you're coming from. I think if Murray somehow gets to a final at RG vs Novak he could have a chance, he has some clay pedigree from his junior days. At Wimbledon and the USO it's pretty certain 50/50. If anything I'd like to see him play flatter more often but we know change is difficult when you've grown confident and comfortable with one style of play.

Lendl has him playing much more aggressively in practise, Says that you must practise the gamestyle that you want to play in matches. I think Lendl is pretty happy with where he's taken Murray so far but knows there's still a long way to go.

I may just be being a biased Murray fan, but I do think he's still got quite a bit of scope for improvement, whereas I'm not sure that Nole has a whole bunch of things that he can improve on, he's just about as good as he's going to be (which is amazingly good).

Whether Murray can make those improvements and find a way to topple Nole, Rafa , Roger and the rest on a more regular basis remains to be seen - but the scope is there IMO.

Muurya looking good, will win Indian Wells :)

:)

Spookily, IW is the only one of the 4 North American hardcourt MS events that Murray hasn't won.

The really funny thing is that the reason he hasn't done so well is that he finds it difficult to control the ball in the windy conditions there!

Murray will amount to nothing more than a multiple one slam wonder. My guess is he will be a one slam wonder 5-6 more times.

The fact is that is Murray is 0-5 in slam finals that he has lost. Also you have to factor in that despite the height advantage, Murray is nowhere close to where he should be. Let's take 2 players of similar talent levels, Ferrer and Federer. So one can say that 3 inches in height difference = 17 -0 slams. Which means if Murray is 2 inches taller than Fed, he should end his career at least at 17 slams + (2/3)*17= 28 slams. So he is a woeful underachiever.

I think if Nadal had entered the tournament, and the final would have been Nadal vs Murray, the final would have been far more interesting, and Nadal would have tied the Sampras-Agassi h2h (vs Djokovic) with a commanding 20-14 lead. :p

What brilliant logic.

You need a brain transplant and enrol back to school.

You're having a laugh comparing Ferrer with Federer on talent levels... height does not equate to having more talent. The reason why Ferrer can't collect a slam was laid out for the world to see against Nole in their AO SF. He is a fighter for sure but lacks that extra weapon(s) that the top 4 possess.

All I'll add to this is that the tennis landscape can change very quickly. When Rafa completed the career slam, we all thought it was going to be a lock for Rafa to win 20+ slams. So what happened there?

It's not inconceivable that Murray will play anyone other than Fed/Rafa/Nole in future GS finals, if he does I'm sure he'll win his fair share. People are giving Delpo all the time in the world and argue he has a 100% slam final conversion, yet he hasn't come any where near to the form he showed in USO '09 and why isn't he getting pilloried for failing to play to his seeding in every slam since 2009?

As long as Murray is getting more opportunities in finals, sooner rather than later, he'll start to convert more into wins. Heck it only took Nole 3 years after his maiden slam win to add another AO title.
