Why do people like watching Gasquet....goofy looking forehand, amazing shot making ability and that one hander. Plus he's French so you have no idea which Richard will show up for his match.

yeah, 1hb is dead.

except for a couple of really good ones who are playing on the tour, none of the others posted here would make me avoid pounding that wing all day long.

no disrespect guys... even TMF is suffering from a weak 1hb.

and, it's Friday now, what happened to OP? was supposed to put one up yesterday.

I'm just a 1.0 but I would prefer it if you pound my 1bh instead of my fh. Naturally, you would golden set me twice but at least it would have been better for me to have attempted to return your awesome shots with my 1bh instead of my fh.

In the past month their have been many threads about how to hit a "modern" one-handed backhand. Most of them have horrible game wrecking advice like: attack the ball with your elbow, rotate into your contact point, roll your wrist for maximum supination. etc.

Advice of this kind is horrible, will wreck people's games, and is being given by people who cannot hit one-handed backhands. Those of us who actually have tennis experience know this.

Sound one-handed backhands are built on advice like: Prepare early, turn sideways, get your front shoulder under your chin, get under the ball, Reach out towards your target and hit through the ball, stay sideways at contact. Keep your arm relaxed, long follow-through ever time, stay with the shot, take the ball early, make contact out in front, etc. etc.

So It's time to put up or shut up. All of us who are posting advice, let's all go out and video our backhands, and post the videos. Then let's see who actually knows how to hit a backhand.

I will post a video of my backhand. It's cold here, but I should be able to get outside in the next week and videotape some groundies. I just got a digital camera, and plan to videotape my shots on Wednesday, and have the video posted by sometime Thursday.

For the first couple days of the thread we can speculate who can actually hit a one-handed backhand, and make predictions about the results. Hopefully in the next few days the videos will come rolling in.

It's time for people to put up or shut up!

My one handed backhand is better than mosts forehands, so what, buy a camera to please low achievers who don't believe even videos?

Another thread mocking our collective tennis worthlessness dies.

Watching 4.0s hit tennis balls on YouTube is about exciting as mopping up chunkified bar puke.

Bring back the "Posters you want to see hit" thread.

At least that one had boobies and genuine TT brawls.

Op. 10 fails

I'm still holding out hope that FrisbeeFool will show up so we can see that authoritative backhand.

Dunno about anybody else, but I like threads like this- nice to see board members of various levels hitting, since I come here for my tennis fix, and rec tennis is still tennis... plus it could just be a coincidence but my backhand seems to have gotten about .5% less crappy since I tried to adopt some of the suggestions here.

Well put, Alves. I've learned a lot of great tips from this board.

the 1hb is a lot easier if you are blessed with guga's flexibility - back of shoulder to the target, while his face is almost square to the target.

i have to look thru the corner of my eyes if i turn that much.

Here's a quick video with a few backhands in it. This was about a week after I came back from a 6 month layoff (August 2012) due to Achilles tendinitis so my footwork is very tentative and I was trying to work my way back into things. The backhands at 23 and 38 seconds are duds but the one at 43 is what I like to think is my typical backhand. My forehand and backhand grips are identical and I use the same face of the racquet for both shots.

I still can't play without thinking my Achilles is gonna snap at any second but I hope to get that out of the back of my mind one day.

Out of the kindness of our hearts, Mr. Pickle and I decided to upload video of our one handed backhands, despite the fact that we are two-handers, and don't offer any advice to other posters on how to hit one handed backhands.

Just to show how easy it is to upload a video of hitting a one-hander, and also that we are not hypocrites.

The videos still don't work. It says " Page not found. Sorry, the video at this URL has either been deleted or never existed in the first place."

Is there some sort of territory blocking or something on vimeo?

I dunno, seems to work for me.
