How many people bought Fed or Nadal racquet just because of them?

I joined the Fed BLX pro staff 6.1 club, I have more than enough racquets to last the rest of my life but decided to buy it just cause its Fed's racquet. No money to buy a collection of sportbikes so this has hobby has to do in the mean time.
It does hit rather nicely with Rip Control full bed at 52pds FWIW.

I've bought 7 racquets since 1985. I was never aware of whether or not any of them were endorsed or 'used' by anyone in particular. Since buying them, I've learned that my LM Rad OS was the Aggasi racquet, my MW 200G 95 was used by Tommy Haas, and my AG200 was used by James Blake.

Looks like I'm in good company. So why does my game suck? Maybe it's my lack of coaching?

I try not to buy a racquet with any major pro endorsing it. Just a personal thing for me. But to each their own.

That was the whole reason I got a K90 as well. My favourite Fed PJ, and it's a really nice hitting racket regardless. That being said, I've never had any intention of using the PS90 at any time seriously in combat!

Sure, I bought an apdc in 2008 cuz it looked really cool with Nadal, #2 at the time. I wish I still have the kind of excitement today. After all, what drives you?

Because I also watch atp matches seeing Nadal play with the racket can get to my mind after a while, in a positive way. So, it's all been good.

I bought my Mfil 200's because the racket's are a nice shiny medium blue. Bought an Aero200 because it looked sooo good with the white accents.

i bought the Fed racket at first because of him. then i just liked hitting with a 90. i think this new fed racket has a 93 headsize.

Back in my younger days I bought a Pro Staff 6.0 becuase of Pete Sampras.

I still love that stick and have it till this day.

That is crazy because the pros all have there racquets custom made the only thing that is the same is the paint job, its all marketing.

I was playing with Fed's racket before he was playing with the PS85. Since 1994 those PS85's have been the sweetest serving rackets ever. I would have bought them sooner but I was still in school and could not afford the prices back then with no job.

I still have the BLX 6.1 90 its just not my main racquet. RHS is not where its suppose to be with big hitters so I use the Extreme 2.0 mainly. Not if its lower level players the Fed's stick comes out.

I demoed the BLX 90 because Fed uses it, but ultimately I liked something else better.

I certainly didn't buy my current racquet of choice because it is used by Richard Gasquet and Mikhail Youzhny, although I do like both players.

I was drawn to the APD because of Nadal but then I saw it in the shop and had to have it regardless of him. I really like the beam as it looks different to every other racket out there.

The only racquet that I bought because of a player was the Babolat Pure Drive Roddick (first cortex version). But since then I have only bought sticks that I feel confident with. I have a lot of friends that jump on the racquet bandwagon...one specifically who buys the newest "Novak" or "Roger" racquet.

I always tell him, pick one and and build your game around it.

When first started noticing tennis racquets again, it was watching Nadal. I was blown away that the "granny sticks" of the 90s were being used at the pro level. I never paid much attention to racquets, so I didnt notice Roddick had used it, but the paint job of the APD is killer and it stood out to me.

Anyway, I had to try it. the look of the APD almost sells itself. I can compare to when I first saw a cannondale frame and was super curious.

If you grew up playing tennis in the 90s and then came back to the sport after a break, most likely the APD is going to peak your curiosity. It is one of the most evolved racquet designs I have seen.

All that being said, I still prefer more classic sticks.

I got a Prince Graphite 110 in 1989 because Agassi & Michael Chang used it. Fast forward 20 years & I bought an APDC because the large majority of people I see around town were playing with it. The fact that it was hugely popular by being marketed as Nadal's stick indirectly led me to buying it.

I usually Demo the racquets because a player uses/endorses it. But I have not really bought one yet.

99% of people who buy Fed's racquet only buy it because he's using it. I bet only 1% of recreational players can really use that racquet. Heck, Feds the only one who uses a 90 sq in head for that matter.

There see several guys who use the prestige mid, which is an 89.

I bought my first Zebra Radical as a feshman because Agassi "used". Since then I've tried (demoed) quite a few racquets after seeing pros use them but I haven't bought any since then soley based on someone using the same one.

I would use federer's racquet if it were a little less stiff... haven't actually used it, but like the specs apart from the stiffness rating (65).

I tried one years back. The K90. It is an absolutely awesome stick and very comfortable and solid. It's a cadillac. Not ideal for competitive play unless you are experienced using mids and heavier sticks, but if so - try it. the KPS 88 is also incredible as well.

Fed's is the only one I've demoed because of the player. I always wanted to try the APD, but have never got around to it.

Probably my only hang-up is that I have to like the way the racquet looks. It would have to play significantly better than any other racquet for me to purchase one that I thought was ugly.

Still quite a few I'd love to demo just for the heck of it at some point. Also would like to try different brands just to see how they "feel". All of them seem to have their own style/feel. So far, I haven't found a brand I like better than HEAD generally speaking, or a racquet I like better than the Extreme Pro 2.0 specifically.

i bought around 20 becuase of those 2 and then 5 for roddick...

When i hit the court with my '12 AO CB 4.3's, and my 13APD, I become RAFA, the man, the machine, the powerhouse of a champion and no one can stop me. Every shot as perfect, errors few and far apart, I devastate all that is around me.

Then, when it starts to get old, I put on my Grey and pink trimmed '13 BNP
Fed polo, and dance in my Black/pink Vapor 9's. I am the epitome of grand-slam perfection, with my intricate footwork and fluid swings. Onlookers admire with conceiled envy, as i hear the anouncements in my head, over and over agan as I play: "Advantage, Fed-er-rer" and "Game, Fed-er-rer."

Then, I get in my car and drive off to get some lunch, and it seems people recognize that I am someone of great standing, they just cant pinpoint who.

Ah, the life of an international tennis star....its great

I bought 4 K-90's to hold onto. In about 10 years time when Federer is retired and his newer model sticks suck, these will be the new PS85's. Could be worth up to $200 each.

might be worth checking out then... KPS 88 has been on my list for a while and i learned tennis playing a 340+ gram, headlight, 93" prince...

I wish I could say the same :) any attempt to swing an APDGT while wearing some Nadal gear makes me look like a fool.

Also, there are a lot of recreational players who uses the Prestige Mid because it's just a wonderful frame. The Prestige Mid never really had a bona-fide superstar attached to it. There was the Goran and Safin, but there were(are) other "lesser" pros using it and thus, diluting its marketing power. Whereas the case in the Pro Staff 90, ONLY Federer uses it on the tour, so people started calling it "The Fed Racquet", and it's annoying really.

I switched to the i.Prestige Mid and then the PC600 when my favorite player at the time was Patrick Rafter. I switched because it worked better for me.

I bought the K90 because a bunch of folks recommended it on the big PK Redondo thread. I don't play anything like Federer outside of the one-handed backhand. I bought many of my racquets because of suggestions on these forums.

The Pinpoint stance serve will negate the Fed-wannabe feeling, then you look like Tommy Haas.

I had an Eastern Forehand and hit pretty flat before I got the K90. I found that I had to move to a SW forehand to keep the balls from hitting the fence. There's a really big difference between the K90 and the Redondo. These days I use an IG Prestige MP. There's nobody in the top ten using that. I don't even know if there's anyone in the top twenty using it.

We all do this. We bought the racquets because we wanted to look like our pros. Just like the same reason we bought the Nike Air (Insert title) or the Reebok Pump or the Nike Air Jordan when buying el cheapo shoe wouldn't make us run any faster or split step any quicker. It never mattered that we couldn’t play like him/her but at least I could wear/play the gear. 20 years later or more we now know that the sticks the pros use are custom jobbies that are nowhere near what we have but that never mattered anyway. If I could look like him, I'll play like him.

Well, you can get those custom jobbies too but you'll have to shell out a pretty penny for them in most cases.

In the end, does it matter? Presumably, we all play tennis because we enjoy it, to have fun. If part of the enjoyment is playing with the same racquet as your favorite player, I say go for it.

Almost all of them are good racquets. If you're OK with it, that is all that matters.

Bottom line - have fun.

Definitely one of the pitfalls of this arena of thought. But its your perception that judges you. Remeber rule #1: We become what we believe we are.

This rule also applies in picking up chicks.

Among the mental techniques of the Bailey method, are the question and answer strategies to help your performance. for example, you ask yourself questions that you already have quick, decisive answers for, and this elevates your performance while you play. ie, "how fast am i?" -"fast as lightning." "how quick am i?" -"as a cat chasing a mouse." "how hard do I hit?" "hard as a ton of bricks"etc. etc.

So, if you think that you are a fool, you will probably project that image to others also.

In the 80's / 90's, can't remember exactly (i'm that old), i got a Max200G cos McenRoe and Graf were using them. I also remember playing regularly at a rich friend's house (swimming pool, tennis court, sauna's - the works), and this guys (very hot) mom played with a Prestige, a red one. I don't remember what model it was exactly, but it was beautiful, and i wanted it, but couldn't afford it.

So, a couple of years ago when i started playing tennis again after about 20 years, i remembered that and bought my self a Youtek Prestige MP:) still using it, love that racquet:)

But, on topic - i'm very interested in what the pros actually use, since i found out about the whole paintjob thing (never new about it until i got on these forums), but it has no influence over what i buy. Besides, i don't like Babolat or Wilson racquets, but will drool profusely at the sight of a PT57A.....
