Federer's blacked out frame

Feds game is not conducive to a 98.

I don't understand why people are so freaked out by him using a 90. It is the perfect stick for his style and game. Sure he is declining and doesn't matter at this point but he would never go bigger than 93/95.

If Pete Sampras can change to 100 sq inch Babolat and do Great in senior tour, then Roger can switch to bigger frame in the ATP tour and do Great too. and Pete had repeated admitted if he had these poly strings with these powerful babolat rackets, he would have done even better when he was still in tour.

A thorough analysis

I loaded the photo into my customized photoshop, enhanced the pixels of the racket, and ran some filters on them. At last, with some confidence, I can confirm that Fed's new racket is probably willow, with a core of dragon heartstring. Which is a complete shock, because as everyone knows Roger has always played with an Ash/Unicorn Hair combo. Can't wait to see what kind of Federer Magic he can unleash with this thing.

ha i guess he listened to brad gilbert afterall. good time to expermiment tho, he doesnt care about computer points now and hes playing 2 small tournaments
I doubt Federer listens to anything Brad Gilbert says. Federer tests prototype racquets every year. That's part of his contract with Wilson. Wilson gives prototype racquets to their sponsored pros all the time for them to hit with to gather their feedback. They are on the Wilson advisory staff. That's one reason why Wilson pays them.

He was hitting with a Blade this week. There is even a twitter post that he would be using a Blade frame in Germany next week. We shall see.
Yeah, sure he will. All prototype racquets are painted black, so why would anyone assume Federer is hitting with a Blade?

As i said in the other thread.

This is a great news if true. There will be lots of Pro Staff 90 racquets going on huge sales to a store near you soon.
I will get myself couple of those beauties.

As far as Fed is concerned I hope this is not true. Playing with Six-One 90 was his trade mark. Part of his legacy. Why change now?

And Pete knows this because he owns a time machine and so can go back in time to replay all of his matches with a Babolat strung with poly to know for sure that he would have won even more matches? OK, I see.

In the commercial where Fed was wearing a mustache, he was hitting with a Steam 99s before handing it to the other person in the commercial. I wonder if Wilson is custom making a 90 or 93 version of the Steam with similar weight and balance specs but with the open string pattern???? That does seem somewhat plausible.

At least this could finally explain why he is playing these clay tournaments all of a sudden. A good way to get used to the racket

Or he just wants to make sure he racks up enough race points to qualify for the WTF at the end of the year?

I was actually reading this with all seriousness.
Until, ofcourse, you bring out the HP reference.
I don't even..

I really don't think Fed is trying out a completely different racket with a different headsize, width, and string pattern.
I'm sure it's some additional B$ "technology" like amplifeel from Wilson that he just wanted to try.
Because we all know that he's been using the K90 under, right? :-|

Because he's playing Hamburg and Gstaad, both on clay.

Is that usual for him? I can see why both tournaments might be important to him, but, all the same isn't now the time to prepare for the last major of the year? Gstaad used to be the week after Wimbledon and Hamburg was of course before Wimbledon.

Here's a better picture of the frame:

But the Blade 93 has a 18/20 string pattern right?!
I counted 16 mains on that pic, but it is not too easy to count I must say....

Yep, no PWS and a different throat. Looks like a blade.
Will be interesting to see what racket he comes out with for his first match on Wednesday, but I guess it'll be the Pro Staff

The new blade has two different versions, as I'm sure you're aware Rusty.
Well, his prostaff does have a 16x19, so why choose a 18x20 when he has a choice?

In this day & age of digital photography, why are the only two photos of Fed & his blacked out racquet reminiscent of this photo?:

Can no one get a series of nice, clear shots of this frame?

Are you implying that the racket Federer is trying is actually a man in a suit?

I thought he would use the Blade 93(which only comes in 18/20)!
Going by that he is using the Blade 98 in the 16/19 in that photo!
That would be quite a jump in headsize...

^He changed from full gut to gut mains/poly crosses for more spin. Why would he use a denser pattern that limits spin?

104? Are you sure?

Then he's probably playtesting for Wilson. Too much of a gap to use it consistently in matches.

I'm only going to say one thing. Roger is not using anything you guys have mentioned. Remember Wilson can make any racket. Just because its blacked out and looks similar to something you see in a store doesn't mean it's that.

What do you know,Pete??:)
It seems like you have some inside info that we don't!

Federer supposedly tests all sorts of racquets for Wilson so i don't think we are going to get a TW 'switch moment'.

That person doesn't know what they're talking about. That frame on the left is not a Hyper Pro staff, it is an original Pro Staff 85. The HPS came later.

Hahaha!
Bobby I love how you just ignored the fact that the twitter guy didn't even catch the fact that the frame didn't even belong to the prostaff family, but instead went on to criticize him for saying that it was a HPS.

I think it is the new Federer's version of the Blade that will be coming out soon. This makes sense more than anything.
