just saw LUCY.. very interesting movie. if it wasn't for scarlett johannsson, probably would have been worse.

I am not sure how using 100 % of your brain would enable you to control electricity and time and see the past and so on............ don't get it?

Saw 'Fury'. Didnt like it. Characters were very fake and unconvincing (as well as many scenes). I could not get invested in the characters and therefore didn't care what would happen to them. I was expecting much better.

I was very invested in that cute blonde girl in that one town that helped out those two US army guys by cooking eggs for them....

Currently Birdman, another one that isn't living up to expectations,I'd still give it 8/10 though. The only movie from 2014 that has been as good as I hoped it would be is Whiplash...

American Sniper - Didn't care for it, frankly.

The Big Clock (1948) - Ray Milland, Charles Laughton, Maureen O'Sullivan. Quite okay but nothing great.

Somewhere over the weekend did catch Only God Forgives (2013) which was quite awful. Ryan Gosling.

Boiler Room, seems tame now after The Wolf Of Wall Street.
I saw Boiler Room immediately after seeing WOWS. WOWS seemed to be a copy of BR.

My Left Foot (1989) - Daniel Day-Lewis, Brenda Fricker. DDL plays a boy with cerebral palsy.

Reminded me a bit of Awakenings, a 1990 movie with Deniro about a patient with encephalitis.

In the middle of Inherent Vice. Kind of tough to follow at times, but they nailed the 70s vibe perfectly. I do like that, and Phoenix's character is likable.

I am still very confused by this movie LUCY. I understand that we will be smarter and achieve some amazing feats when we start using 20 % or more of our brain. BUT HOW on earth do we start to control radio waves and start to go back in time as in TIME travel and stuff,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Even if we use 100 % of our brain, it seems impossible how we can travel in time and ascend into GOD like being............ I don't get it??????????????

You will only be able to understand all this once you start using 20% of your brain. See the catch ?

Recently watched Foxcatcher, American Sniper, Birdman and Big Eyes. Birdman was the best of the bunch, IMHO. Michael Keaton deserved his Golden Globe award. Great cast and great acting throughout. Foxcatcher was the most over-hyped to me. Mark Ruffalo was the best in that flick but Steve Carrell was not as good as some have stated. Kind of disappointing, tbh.

I actually preferred Foxcatcher to Birdman and think that IT is overrated. Oh well, each to their own I guess...

Recently saw Awakenings with Robin Williams and Robert De Niro. Great movie based on a true story. I cried.

Falling in Love - 1984. De Niro and Streep.

Reminded me of Brief Encounter (1945) by David Lean.

Saw that a couple months back. Saw My Left Foot the other day which reminded me of Awakenings.

You may also like Sling Blade which the fellers here recommended recently.

I saw a really nice movie last night; Bottle Shock. Best movie on wines I've seen since Sideways.

The title reminds me more of Billy Wilder's Lost Weekend :(

I've seen about 2 hours of Transformers 4. Enjoyed the first 30 mins, the next 30 were quite good, and then i began tiring out. Not sure if i can do the final 45 ! The cars were cool, though.

Also pushed myself through 30 mins of Brick (2005) yesterday, not sure i wanna complete it.

Has anyone seen Kill The Messenger or The Most Violent Year ?

Recommendations ?

I saw the latter. Really liked it. A throwback flick that reminded me of 70s flicks like Serpico and The French Connection. Oscar Isaac also deliberately imitates Al Pacino throughout the movie. Looks a bit like a younger Pacino in it. The cinematography is also very 70s-early-80s, a la Gordon Willis.

Overall, I would say that it is a mood piece. Substantively, not a lot happens.

Whiplash and Nightcrawler seem to be sibling movies of sorts. Both allegories on capitalism, I think.

I don't know if I like either, as much as I admire the performances. Very unsettling, but driven by a kind of one-dimensional emotion rather than complexity of emotion. The energy alone is not enough to impress me.

Just saw The Imitation Game, and The Theory of Everything. Both interesting.

Did not like the fact the TTOE focuses too much on their romance in the first half. Later read that it is based on his first wife's memoirs, so i guess it would. Which also explains why the movie does not deal with SH's life with his second wife.

TTOE reminded me a lot of Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot.

Did you like it? :p

I think the idea behind it very good but the movie itself is not that well made and lacks. So I mainly liked the idea and the fact that it's connected to the Alien series, which I absolutely love. But I expected more. Definetely looking forward to Prometheus 2 to see how will the story unfold.

Agree, that would be interesting. she has to travel to Alien home planet and Wipe them all out. Just need enough food for the travel there...

Just Saw "pre-destination". Very disappointed........ 1/2 the movie takes place in the bar. and the plot not really intreaging at all

Saw Gone Girl last night. What a stupid movie.
pmata814, what's the movie about and how/why was it stupid? Thx.

"Tannenberg" - a Swiss–German war film directed by Heinz Paul and starring Hans Stüwe, Käthe Haack and Jutta Sauer and featuring a cameo appearance by Roger Federer who plays a globe-trotting slacker.

Not possible to talk about what made it stupid without spoilers. I know it got 89%. But i just happen to be in the minority with this one. (And its not the first time)

I know we're supposed to accept certain things, that are just not possible, when u watch a movie and just...enjoy the movie. But this one really went too far. Downright dumb IMO.

American Sniper.
I am spent just from watching it. I cannot imagine what stress those guys go through.
I want to know the truth behind the (SPOILER ALERT) ending of the ...ahem...movie.
