For us fans who loved watching Pecci play his best tennis, 1981 was a satisfaction.Yes, he still had many stupid defeats.But he ousted Mayer and Noah to reach the Paris semis ( Borg again thumped him) and had a fantastic run at the IO.He lost to Clerc in the final but not before destroying Vilas in their semi.
Pecci beat Borg at Montecarlo, where the swede lived and practised every day.Pecci would reach the quarters there, and he would also reach the quarters at Forest Hills WCT, where Dibbs would, quite surprisingly IMO, beat him.
In 1981 he still won some minor tournaments in South American clay courts.Unfortunately, he didn´t keep it up in 1982 and we, again, lost Victor¡¡¡
