2012 Wilson Prototype White String Playtest

So here is my review of the Wilson Prototype string. It was fairly easy to string because of the smoothness. I'm assuming this is a 16g string. I'm a 4.5 NTRP level player that utilizes heavy spin and play almost exclusively on Har-Tru.

Tension it is strung: 60 pounds on a lockout machine full bed
Your regular string set up: Discho Microfibre 16
Racket: Pro Kennex 7G
String pattern of your racquet: 16 x 20
Power (or lack there of): High powered multi
Feel: Average feel for a multi
Tension maintenance: This is the big weakness of this string. The tension off the stringer was 50.4 pounds according to RacquetTune. The final tension reading I got was 43.9 pounds. It's possible the smoothness of the string allowed some clamp slippage but who knows. Bottom line is that tension is just too low for a multi to play well at.
Overall comments and feedback: See below

General: This string looks like a high quality string. I had high hopes for it but in the end, the power is just too much for my long loopy strokes.

Serve/Return of Serve: My serves were constantly under attack with this string. Return of serves was just plain bad. I missed way too many long.

Strokes: The spin of the string was around average for a multi. Depth control was horrible. The ball was constantly going past the baseline.

Volleys: It's OK for volleys, nothing outstanding.

Touch shots: Drop shots and touch volleys were about average for a multi.

Softness: This was a stiffer multi. I would not recommend it to arm sufferers but for those coming from polys, they may like the feel better.

Tension: I wish I would have strung this up a few pounds higher.

Durability: I got 7 sets of singles and 1 set of doubles before it broke at a cross.

Movement: String movement is minimal at first but after a few hours, both the crosses and mains slide around a little bit.

Conclusion: I just felt like it was too powerful for my liking. This is a better string for those with compact strokes desiring some pop or perhaps those with a very flexible racket. The stringbed was too unpredicable for me. I can't think one one aspect of this string that I like better than my current favorite multi. I would not buy this product but I'm sure there are others who would like it. Thanks TW for the opportunity to playtest the string.

Feel: Not great at first but actually felt better after a set or 2
Tension maintenance: I felt this string lost tension fast. I had to change my swing a bit to keep groundies in play after 2 sets. I'm not a big hitter but I still noticed the trampoline effect come into play quite earlier as compared to other strings. This is my biggest negative mark on the string.
Control: Not bad, but I had to adjust because of trampoline effect and lack of spin after a while.
Compare to regular string: I couldn't hit out as much as I normally do with Beast. See above
Tension Recommendation: String higher knowing going in it will lose at a higher rate than what seems to be accepted.
Overall comments and feedback: See below

General: I had my stringer string it so I don't know about the process.

Serve/Return of Serve: Serves were fine. I didn't have a problem getting serves in but I didn't hit big bombs with it. Tried a few times and just couldn't get dialed in. Regular serves were not a problem and kicker for 2nd was average. Return was ok. Was able to jump on weak 2nd serves and flattened out 1st serve returns.

Strokes: I would like more spin from the string. I think the quick tension loss combined with lack of spin had me holding back from taking big clean cuts.

Volleys: A positive. Very clean, crisp and solid. I played a set of doubles and I enjoyed the feel at the net.

Touch shots: Average, nothing bad-nothing special

Softness: Not mushy but felt a bit soft. Not a bad thing. I actually enjoyed the feel.

Tension: Knowing it loses tension fast I probably would string tighter next time.

Durability: Good for me other than the tension change. I am not a string breaker and these would probably work for me for a while

Movement: Not much movement at first but I started to notice some indentations on the strings early. Eventually I would have to move them just slightly to get them straight. Not much movement but they start to develop the little groves early

Conclusion: I liked the string. The big positive for me was the lack of string movement. That's always a big plus in my book. The feel was good but the tension issue pretty much effects everything. I enjoyed play testing it. Thanks TW.

Mad Dog1's 2012 Wilson Prototype White String playtest

Tension used for playtest: 50/52# on an electronic CP machine
Your regular string set up: Discho Iontec 1.25 copoly strung at 46/46# on an electronic CP machine
1. Racquet brand and model used for test: Wilson Pro Staff 6.0 midsize
2. Power level of test string: the power level of the test string was low. I wasn’t generating the same amount of pace and power that I am able to w/ my regular string set up.
3. Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?): The test string was stiff for a multi and less comfortable than my poly setup. Also, the sweet spot was much smaller as well. Off center shots generated a considerable amount of harshness. Initially, I was netting a lot of balls due to lack of pocketing and feel, but after 2 hours, pocketing improved a lot,
4. Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?): Tension was pretty stable for the first 1.5 hours. After that, the strings started losing quite a bit of tension. For the first 1.5 hours, the mains didn’t move at all similar to poly. After 1.5 hours, the mains were shifting all over the place. The readings I took from my Tourna String Meter corroborated my observations. The string bed read ~43#s fresh off the stringer. After about 2.5 hrs of hitting, the reading from the String Meter had dropped to 38#s.
Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Prior to the huge loss of tension, control was fine w/ this string. I could generally place the ball where I was aiming. By my last session, the balls were starting to sail a bit long due to all the tension loss.
5. Compare to the string you use most often: Compared to Iontec 1.25, this string was lower in power, offered less comfort, less spin and less durability. I could not see myself purchasing this string.
6. Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?): If I were to do this again, I would start off 2#s lower because the string bed felt really low powered, stiff and boardy initially. After the string lost some tension, comfort, ball pocketing and feel were improved, but then the string started moving all over the place. The string movement while annoying didn’t cause any playabilty issues though until tension dropped so much causing me to hit long.
7. General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes): The string was easy to string up. Spin levels were good. Not quite up to the levels of poly, but better than some softer multis. Power levels are down versus other multis. Comfort was another area where this string didn’t fare as well compared to other multis. Durability was pretty awful. By 2.5 hours, while the mains weren’t notched, the mains were digging into the crosses pretty good completely stripping away the hard outer coating at numerous places exposing the multifilament core. By the 4 hour mark, a few of the crosses were already frayed halfway through the string threatening to snap at any time. I am certain they will break within the next 30-60 mins of hitting however I plan to cut them out because they have lost so much tension that my groundstrokes are sailing long and the string bed is pretty harsh.

Serve/Return of serve: Didn’t test because my shoulder is messed up. I don’t serve as it aggravates the shoulder.

Groundstrokes: It performed well from the baseline once the feel and ball pocketing improved at the 1.5- 2 hr range but nothing about it really stood out. It provided good spin and control, but lacked power and pop. Felt crisp – maybe too crisp for my liking.

Volleys: Solid and crisp.

Touch: Average – wasn’t great or bad

Comfort: Not what I consider a soft, comfy string. I found this string to be less comfortable than a full bed of OGSM 17 natural.

Tension maintenance: Pretty awful. I mentioned stringing 2#s lower next time which would help the feel and pocketing from the start, but given how quickly this string loses tension, I’m not sure how well this would work in reality. But it might be a non issue anyways since the string wouldn’t last very long for me anyways.

Durability: I’ve been hitting w/ this string for ~4 hours now the crosses are shredding badly at a number of places. If I don’t cut it out, I imagine, I’ll get 30 mins to 1 hr before they break. In comparison OGSM17 usually lasts me 3-4 hours before they snap. I have never been able to break Iontec 1.25 but I cut them out after 15-20 hours because they’ve gone dead by then.

I'll answer TW's format first.

Tension used for play test- 58 CP

Your regular string set up- MPP/MSCS at 52/54

Racquet brand and model used for test- Aeropro drive GT

Power level of test string- High with the tension loss (more on that later) but would probably be low powered without it.

Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?) - stiff, decent feedback, small sweetspot. It felt ok at first, then went downhill with the tension loss.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?)- poor. It was ok for about 2 hours, then went downhill for me. According to raquet tune, it started at 52.9 off the stringer, then ended at 45.3. I would probably go a couple pounds higher if I had it again.

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) Not that great. I felt like I had to put to much spin to control the power. Maybe if I had shorter strokes it would work better.

Compare to the string you use most often- more power, less spin, less control, softer, and less feedback.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?) I would go a couple pounds higher.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes) It didn't have the control I needed. Again, it seems like it would suit shorter strokes better. I actually quite liked it at first, but after the tension loss it became way to powerful.

And my format

Stringing- very easy. Actually one of the easier strings I've strung. No real problems. Full bed at 58.

Groundstrokes- at first, I really liked this string. It was a stiff multi and had good spin potential. Almost no string movement for the first two hours. After that, though, the tension dropped. It went south and got way too much power. This would be better for compact strokes.
Overall- 8/10

Serves- Bleh. I just didn't have it. Returns or serves. I just couldn't get a meaningful serve in.
Overall- 6/10

Volleys- average. Vanilla. Mediocre. Nothing worth mentioning.
Overall- 7/10

Durability- not bad. Not great, but not bad. Crosses broke. Tension maintenance was horrid though.
Overall- 6/10

Softness- 1 being the softest, 10 being the stiffest.
Overall- 4/10

Overall, this was a pretty good string at first for groundies. After the tension loss, though, it became much too powerful. Maybe compact strokes would work better, but all in all a disappointment for me. Thanks TW!

Regular string setup: natural gut mains and poly crosses, 55/52

Racquet model: BLX Six.one Tour 90

Power level of string: medium

Feel: crisp and slightly forgiving

Tension maintenance: Pretty good for a multi. String was stiff and stayed that way for 5 hours. There was not much string movement.

Control: Was predictable because of the stiff stringbed, but was also forgiving on off center shots. Could generate a good amount of spin, but not as good as a full poly stringbed.

Comparison to string used most often: I would say there was more control in this than my usual stringbed, especially on faster strokes. However, there was not as much spin potential and comfort as the natural gut mains and poly crosses.

I would recommend the same tension that I tried it at.

Play tester
I am a pretty good 4.0 doubles player. I coach a small high school team and play about three times a week.

Usual Setup
I hit with a Technifibre T Flash 315 Speed Flex strung with Solinco (Tour Bite or Revolution) at 56#

Play test Setup
The prototype was strung at 59# it seemed a lot softer than poly so I went with my normal multi tension. (Glad I did any less and nothing would have stayed in)

My original thoughts after about two hours of hitting (Thursday)
First, this string was a joy on the stringer. So much easier to work with than a brittle stiff poly.
Once I reached the court the first outing was uninspiring. I did not feel like the string gave me any advantage. It was tough to roll the ball over the net with topspin and I did not feel like I had any touch. Everything was just average.

Second outing (Saturday)
I had two state tournament matches and thought I would warm up with the prototype string and see if I thought I could play with it. I used this frame all weekend. The string really sat in nicely. Groundstrokes had some pop and were staying in. Volleys felt real crisp (my favorite part about this string). Flat serves were great, kick serves were just ok.
At this point I have to mention I did not feel any elbow pain this weekend. Usually I have to take an aspirin or three before back to back matches, this weekend I never pulled out the bottle. Also the string stayed in place very well up to this point and did not have any of the coating fray like a regular multi would.

Final outing
I stayed with the prototype string for Sunday as well. Tension was considerably beginning to loosen. Shots that felt like they should go in were spraying out by two feet past the baseline. Control was still good left and right though. Serves were booming, ground strokes and volleys were getting a little sketchy. Service returns were never my favorite with this test string but they were impossible on Sunday.

Overall Thoughts
This string is very intriguing. I really like the idea of a soft feeling poly or a stiffer multi. This string could be either, more like a stiff multi if you as me. Again the best features were no elbow discomfort and ease of stringing. Tension loss happened a little to quick for my liking. I would try this again and hope Wilson will add some texture to the coating in the future.

Compared to Solinco I like the comfort factor, I wish I would have been able to create more spin.

Tension: String this like a multi so the ball will stay in the court.

Power level of test string- Relatively low for me compared to my normal hybrid setup.

Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?) - Soft compared to PHT, not mushy but softer. My elbow actually enjoyed it compared to my normal setup.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?)- Decent. After a few hours I could tell it was losing tension rather quickly and had to adjust my stroke effort a bit.

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) Not great for flat shots. When I put more spin I could dial it in and would leave balls short.

Compare to the string you use most often- Less power, less control, less spin, softer, more comfortable, better on slices.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?) I would go a couple pounds higher.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes) These strings didn't really excel at flat strokes in my opinion, but had decent spin. Kick serves and slices were crisp and overall the string felt a bit "plastic-ey" compared to my normal setup.


Groundstrokes- pleasant with some spin, a bit uncontrollable with a flat, powerful stroke.

Serves- My flat serves were somewhat hard to control, however my slice and kick serves were biting nice.

Volleys- Average, not a ton of feel but not a brick wall either.

Durability- decent, I didn't get much fraying or notching but I could tell the tension on loss after a few sessions.

Softness- 1 being the softest, 10 being the stiffest.
Overall- 5/10

This was a decent string but not something I would switch too. I hit off the ball machine, practice hitting sessions and in match play. Thanks for the opportunity TW, I appreciate it.

Power level of test string- initially it was about average but the tension just dropped so fast after first hour or so of hitting and it become much more powerful and difficult to control shots from going long

Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?)-for a multi i would say it was on the crisp/stiff side, small sweet spot and a little harsh feeling on off center shots. No arm pain at all with the string.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?)- To me probably the lack of tension maintenance was the biggest downside with the string. After the first hour or so of hitting the string had dropped considerably in tension and was getting difficult to control. Around hours 3 to 4 of hitting it was a struggle to keep the balls from going long due to the tension loss.

Control- again difficult to control, really had to try to put more topspin on the ball to keep it in the court.

Compare to the string you use most often- more power, less control, less spin, about the same in terms of feel, softer (but i typically use a full bed of poly)

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)- definitely much higher

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes)- I found it difficult to deal with the tension loss. It seemed like it just kept losing tension. I thought it was unusual that the crosses were fraying so much and actually a cross broke after about 4.5 to 5 hours of hitting.

Nice string. Certainly was comfortable string.
Compared to usual set up, this was more comfort. Just took a little time to adjust to this string. I'm not sure if the 6 hours it lasted would typically be the same each time, as my normal set up lasts much longer. Would like to try again to see how long it would lasat again.

I rarely use multis so I don't have much of a reference point. That was in reference to all strings I have used. I actually want to start experimenting with more multi's because I have been getting some elbow soreness and some softer multis may alleviate that. My fear is durability though.

Racquet brand and model used for test- Boris Becker London. I have two frames and strung them both at the same time for comparison. One with this string and the other with my regular string.

Power level of test string- Low-medium Power

Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?)- It is very stiff for a multi and make me thing it is not a regular multi.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?)- I played with with for about 3 hours total. Not comfortable at all compared to my regular strings. At one point, I had a sharp (recurring issues) pain in the left arm so I stop playing with it. The tension is the same during the three hours .

Control- If one say control is the opposite of power then it is a very control string. But if one think about how easy it is to put the ball where you want then it is not a control string. I have more problem pinpointing my shot with this string than my regular setup.

Compare to the string you use most often- similar power, much more harsh and stiff, similar spin, less feel.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)- I would string lower to reduce the harshness of the string.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes)- I don't like it at all. I feel it even harsher than some soft poly I play with and it does not have the "spin" benefit of soft poly. I would not play with this string again.

The feel was nice, not too soft.

The tension dropped considerably soon after stringing.
I strung it at 53 but it registered 40.2 on ‘racquetTune’ shortly after stringing. It settled down to the mid 30’s a few days later until the crosses broke.


Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)
I was initially pleasantly surprised with the control that I had with this string.
I was able to hit out on groundstrokes on both sides without the balls landing out. There was enough bite on the ball when hitting topspin and backhand slices.

Initially my control on serves were great. I was initially apprehensive that I wouldn’t be able to generate enough spin on second servers but that wasn’t the case.


Compare to the string you use most often
My normal setup is a poly/syngut hybrid.
This string initially had as much control as my hybrid setup and obviously was more comfortable.


Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)
With the drastic drop tension I would probably go up 3 to 5 pounds.


General comments
I really didn’t have any dislikes after the first 2 or 3 sessions I had with the strings. Things were great - I was ready to possibly make a switch to this string. However, it all changed after the fourth session with the setup. Where I had control in the earlier sessions, balls started to gradually fly on me. I was losing control on volleys and serves as well. The other aspect that I noticed was that the strings also started moving quite drastically.

One of the cross string broke on me during the fifth session. This was unusual for me in that I usually break mains. I’ve never snapped a cross; full gut, full multi, poly/gut, poly/multi. Never a cross. What I did notice early on was that the mains were starting to wear on the cross rather than the mains notching – I believe this was pointed out by someone else as well.


All in all, this wasn’t a bad string. I’d just prefer something that lasted a tad bit longer. It may be worth trying as a cross but I’m sure that a poly main would saw through this in no time at all…

Was very much easier to string up compated to my normal set up.
For a synthetic string, this was very playable. But compared to Wilson Nat. Gut, well it is hard to compare any synthetic string to that one, as with this string, although the power, feel and control was fine, it is not the same as a quality nat. gut like Wilson's. My typical set up with gut has great feel, power and control, where no other string compares except for another quality nat. gut.

Was a very easy string to string up.
Wish the string lasted a little longer.
As I said, a decent string for a synthetic, if used again, I would probably string it a few lbs. higher like around 60-61 lbs.I actually would not mind using this string again at a higher tension. If this string makes it to market, let me know, as I would like to give it another try strung up a little higher.

- I was pretty happy with this string in term of power. As far as a multi is concerned it was on the lower level of the spectrum, but I thought it compared nicely to my usual set up and didn't really have to adjust anything in my game to really conform to the aspects of the frame (well...at first). Toward the end of the playtest. The string got to be a bit of an uncontrolled cannon, but it was time for the string to go anyway.

Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?)
- The feel of this string was IMO really great. It felt crisp yet was still an arm friendly experience. In the beginning the string didn't really give me that "ball sinking in" feel but after the string settled in it really sweetened up the sweetspot. Then it slowly lost tension toward the wet noodle stage.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?)
- Usually, I really can’t feel if a string loses tension. Normally my swing just adjusts and life goes on. Not the case with this string. This string really gave me a sense loss of tension. There was a definitely change in feel over the life of the string playtest. The string went from board-like to wet noodle quickly enough for me to notice the difference between heading out to the courts. IMO, the string became unplayable for me about the 24 hour mark (to the point I had to cut the string).

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)
-I felt that the string really shined in the performance aspect. The string bed feel was very predictable. Had to swing a bit faster to get the spin that I am used to. Flat shots had great control and pop. Touch shots were very easy to feel out (except toward the end of the string). Overall, very satisfied with everything.

Compare to the string you use most often
- The power level seemed similar. The string bed feel, would have to give the edge to my BHBR. Spin, no question advantage goes to my normal setup. Touch I would have to give the edge to the playtest string.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)
- I really can’t say that I would change the tension. The reason being at the start it felt fine, then better, then just went downhill from there. Due to the scale of tension loss I really don't think increase in tension would do a great deal to solve that.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes)
Stringing this string was a breeze, string just glided through. Great job Wilson. My highs of the string were overall feel, control, power level, and (in the first half of the playtest) the strings didn't move all over the place. My lows of this string was spin compared to normal string (not a huge deal really) and the peak performance sudden drop. Overall I really enjoyed this playtest, maybe even got me interested in more Poly/Multi hybrid strings. Thanks Wilson and TW for letting me get to play with the new string.

I strung this multi at 60 # on a constant pull machine with a 4 knot string job.


Your regular string set up -

I'm basically a poly user, but have dabbled quite a bit in hybrids, multi's, and other combos. I am a local stringer and have tested out many different combos in a ton of different frames. My current string of choice at the moment is Pro Supex Blue Gear 17, but have been a long time user of Volkl Cyclone, Solince tour bite and barbed wire, as well as rpm blast and pro hurricane tour.


Racquet brand and model used for test -

For this Playtest I used my trusty Donnay Pro One 97 racquet. 16x19 pattern with a 3/8 grip. Racquet is in stock for with no weight added and the standard 0g buttcap


Power level of test string -

The test string for me was a tad underpowered to other muti's I have used. This was apparent on first serves as I wasn't getting the pop one would expect from a multi. On groundies,spin was average as my strokes were fine, nothing spectacular. When I would go for the put away, there strings left me asking for more.


Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?) -

Fell wise, the test string had a crisp feeling especially with touch shots. My backhand drop shots had very little feeling coming of the strings as I could never seem to get the feel needed to place the drops. I feel the string, being a stiffer multi, lost a lot of the feel as compared to say a head Fxp or nxt.


Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?) -

Tension wise, the racquet help up pretty well. I noticed an initial tension drop after a day of hitting, but by my third or fourth day, the strings seemed to settle in and maintained the tension. If I could do it again I would string a bit looser, as I preferred the settled string tension better that the initial. Tension loss was around 3-4 pounds after the first hitting session.


Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) -

As mentioned above, control was average, but with the stiff strings, feel was lost and with the feel loss, some of the control. The strings were not predictable as with other poly's as it took some time to adjust to the feel of the strings. Once I was used to the feel, I was able to place the ball well, but not as accurate as with my original go to strings. I know I am sounding repetitive here but strings were average, nothing special.


Compare to the string you use most often - it is very difficult to compare the test strings to my regular full poly set up as its comparing apples to oranges. But as I played with the strings it was apparent that I missed the extra pop and bite I get from my poly set up. The donnay, being a softer racquet is ideal for poly use. I think these strings in a babolat or similar stiffer racquet, at a tension around mid 50's would be a good combo to try.


Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?) -

After hitting with it in my racquet, I would have gone a little looser, maybe at 57 and have it settle to 54-55 to get some of the pop back and dwell time on the string.


General comments -

Overall, a good play test.......not great. I really enjoy testing the new strings and having the opportunity to give feedback for that I thank TW. Will I change?? Heck no, these are not for me, nor do I think they are even close to the nxt line that plays so well and is very popular. I think these strings left much to be desired in many categories.

Power level of test string: I thought it was pretty solid, the power was good and spin was decent.

Feel: I thought it felt "mushy" and kind of dead to me. I prefer my strings to have a nice crisp feel but I didn't feel like this string had that feeling. It felt very dampened

Tension maintenance: Didn't feel any noticeable drop, I hit for about 1.5 hours.

Control: Control I felt was just ok for the most part. I went for a couple lines and after a while didn't feel comfortable going for them as I usually do. Can't say exactly if it was the string or an off day.

Compare to string: I like the string I usually use because it has that crisp feeling I like along with good spin and good control. I like having a poly mains, so I wouldn't switch out my NVY for this playtest string

Tension recommendations: I would probably leave it at 60, maybe even a few pounds higher

General comments: I wouldn't buy this string considering what price it would probably be. For the same price I would rather use PSGD.

Ehh my crosses actually broke. Odd. First time I ever broke a cross before. Guess it wouldn't be good for a poly hybrid. I'm going to redo a whole sum up review since mine were broke up in pieces.

It was ok for the first hitting session. Reminded me a lot of NXT control. I don't think it fit my game and I like a full bed of poly. The tension loss is a big turn off. I had to hit flat to keep the ball in after the tension drop. The durability was also poor. Only lasted about a month before breaking and broke at a cross which Usually a poly set up last me 2 months or I cut them out so this lasted me half the time my usual set up does.

Playtest Review

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to playtest this string. I really enjoyed doing it.


Tension used for playtest: 58 Lbs.

Regular String Setup: Kirschbaum Spiky Shark 17 in a full bed, strung at 56lbs.

Stringing:

Strung on a Neos 1500 crank machine. The string was very easy to string up.

Raquet Used:
HEAD Youtek Extreme Pro (weighted to 12.5 oz.)

Power level of test string:

I found the string to be mid-ranged in power, exactly how I like it. You could easily generate pace, but it was not too powerful to the point I lost control. I would say that it isnt as powerful as my usual set up though.


Feel of string:

I found the string to be a fairly stiff string. I have only played with a few different multi's, but this string was the stiffest of those I have played with. However, the stiffness of the string was a positive in my eyes and it is certainly not poly stiff.

Tension maintenance:

After a few hours of hitting, I did notice a drop off in tension, but it wasnt large enough to dramatically affect the playability of the string. However, after about 5.5 or 6.5 hours of play the tension loss started to bother me as I lost a bit of control and the string bed started feeling softer.

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?):

I really liked the control I received from the string. I was able to generate great spin with the string which I really enjoyed.
This is the area the string really stood out. It was probably the best spin producing synthetic I have played with. Now, it didnt produce as much spin as my full poly set up, but I didnt feel like I lacked spin like I have when I play with other synthetics. I was also able to get nice bite on my backhand slice and didnt have a problem flattening out groundstrokes.

Compare to the string you use most often:

I think my full poly set up can generate a bit more spin and has a more pop on cleanly hit groundstrokes. However, this string was definetly more comfortable on my arm and I had better feel at the net and with drop shots.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)

I might go just a little higher to account for some of the intial drop off in tension, maybe 60 lbs? However, I dont think I made a mistake stringing it at 58 lbs, as it played well for many hours.

General comments:
I think this would make a great string for me when my shoulder is bothering me a bit. I gives me many of the attributes that my poly does without being so stiff on my arm. In this intial test, the durability was also fairly comparable to my poly of choice. My main grief with most multi's is that I can't hit out as much with them because I cannot generate enough spin to control my shots. That is not the case with this string as spin is easily accessible. I really think Wilson did a good job with this string and I would like to know the name of it if it is released.

Racquet brand and model used for test- Head Microgel Radical Mid with 10grams of lead in the handle and 3 grams at 3 and 9


Power level of test string- Power was there when it is needed from the get go. There was more than enough power once the initial tension lose happened.


Feel- This string felt crisp but comfortable. Without a shock absorber there was good feedback. I had no problems finding the sweetspot.


Tension maintenance- Tension lose happened within a couple of hours. It started to give a trampoline effect on the ball. String movement is there from the get go. The strings move easier the more you play with them.


Control- The first couple of hours the control was predictable and easy to keep everything inside the lines. Once the tension lose set in I needed to adjust my swing a bit with more spin to keep the ball in with groundies. I liked serving better after the tension lose (more pace). Volleys were predictable even after the tension lose.


Compare to the string you use most often- Not as good as the Multifeel I am currently using. Multifeel is more lively and has better durabilty. Gut/poly is my go to set up when I have the cash and this string is no where near anything gut/poly has to offer.


Tension recommendations- I believe 62lbs is about right for these strings. Once they lose their initial tension they are still playable until they break, which is about 6 hours of play.


General comments- These strings were comfortable and predictable until the initial tension lose. If strung at a high enough tension the adjustments needed are minimal on the swings. Once someone is familiar with the pattern this will not be a big deal. These strings would be fine for a low level rec player who does not break strings easy.
They are not lively enough for me. Spin was ok but not great. I really like mixing my serves up and I really was not getting a whole lot of action on the ball. Flat serves were fun to hit . Durability was not that great either but eh they are synthetic.
I appreciate getting the opportunity to test these strings out. I hope my feedback helps.

Crisp and somewhat stiff during the early hours of testing. A bit softer after break-in period (2-3 hr mark).

I felt the tension maintenace was very good. Others have measured quite a large drop and then the string was stable from then on. I felt the drop and the stiffness became reduced. The string played better after the tension drop. I did not notice the string becoming unplayable at any point so far. I have 12 hours on the string.


Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?)

I was very impressed with the control. The string worked well across the board and played very "fair". I used the string with various grips/spins and strokes and was treated to a firm and steady ride.

Control on serves was about as expected. If my swing was off.. I missed. Good form from me then..great control. Spin was average on serves and off the ground.


Compare to the string you use most often

My normal set-up is more powerful. I can create more spin and the ball pocketing is better. This string seemed to be a poly/multi hybrid in one string. I will not be suprised to find out there is a poly componet in this offering.


Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)

I seemed to pick the right tension. Very happy with the tension I selected. If I went up a few pounds, this offering would be to stiff and lack power.


General comments

Enjoyed the string. Not enough to move to it. I am guessing this string will be offered for at least $11.00 a set and to me...that is too high for this type of string. Even though it had a special feel to it.. it is no better than say Gosen OG Sheep 17G in performace for my game. Spin production was only average as was feel and comfort. String movement was better than ave. Many better strings on the market...in fact in general there are way too many strings on the market. While I liked the string it had no wow factor ever. The price/performace would be loser for me if the string was offered for over $10.00. Thanks for the chance to playtest this string.

Power level of test string:
This string was very low powered. It wasn’t able to keep the pace needed for a rally ball. Also when if I needed a little more power on an approach shot I was unable to generate it.
Feel of string:
This string was very stiff. I was hard to have touch especially on volley. I am usually able to hit a decent drop volley but with this string I was unable to.
Tension maintenance:
After hitting the first time to the second time I noticed a big drop in tension probably 5lbs. Then after the second time hitting I noticed another drop of about 2lbs. After that it stayed about the same until they broke. This is a major dislike of mine. I want my strings to be able to stay around the same after the first hitting session.
Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?):
There was a tremendous amount of control with this string. I was able to play more lines with this string than normal. This was a big plus playing against many others who are not in the best of shape.
Compare to the string you use most often:
This string provided more control than my usually setup but the power and ball pocketing were unable to come close to my string setup. I found this string had more spin than my normal setup. It was nice for angles but just rally balls were falling short because of it. My net game with this string was horrible I was unable to hit solid volleys.
Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?)
If I were to string this again I would string it at like 51 or 52lbs due to the lack of power this string has. It would loose some control but I would be okay with that if I were to gain some extra power.
General comments:
I think this could be a good string in the mains mixed with a soft cross. It has the spin potential and control it is just to stiff to gain any power and touch. I personally wouldn’t buy this string due to the massive tension loss and stiffness. The negative outweigh the positives in this string for my game but could be good for those looking for control.

Overall a nice Syn gut that has some of the better characteristics of poly (power and control) and some not so much, ( tension loss and durability). Great feel at the net and with serves. Great for people with tender elbows.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?): After 6 hours it lost quite a bit of tension. It was then too powerful. Note: I am not a big hitter, more of a defensive player with variety, so I don't decimate strings.
Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): The control was really good for a multi at first, but still not as much as big ace.
Compare to the string you use most often: This had more feel and power than my regular set up. However it lost tension faster, and broke at the 10 hour mark.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes): I have limited experience with multis being a full poly guy. However, this felt much better on serves and touch shots. Spin was average for a multi, but the tension maintenance was rather poor. Was also disappointed with the durability, but that's why I use polys. Compared to other multifilaments it had less pop and not as lively so I would say this is a low powered multi. After a couple days of hitting, stringbed softened up and power level increased a bit.

1st day of hitting, string feels a bit stiff compared to other multis and didn't have the "crisp" I was looking for. 2nd day pocketing got a bit better, seems like string is settling in a bit and playing much better.

String broke on the 2nd day so I cannot comment much on tension loss.

Control was good, trajectory was consistent, string wasn't doing anything weird that I had to adjust my swing so this is a good thing.

I'll compare this to Gosen og sheep 17 since they are most similar. Test string has less pop, less live, less power, less comfort, more stiff, more spin, no string movement, equal control.

No, I would stay with the same tension. String this as you would other multifilaments or synthetic guts.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes)

After I've received the string, I cut a sample piece off clamped it and it turned white, used pliers to break it apart, saw multiple fibers under magnifying glass so I would say its a multifilament. I also found the outside wrap on this string to be very stiff and made of a different material, I am thinking this is one of those strings they are trying to hybrid the co-poly and multi so you get the best of both worlds. I've recently done the same with Genesis Thunderblast and found similar traits but different construction.

My regular setup is Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough 17g at 57lbs, I don't feel this is a good setup to compare to since bhbr is a co-poly so I'll compare the test string to Gosen og sheep 17 (synthetic gut.) Gosen is much more comfortable, lively, had better feel and pop but string movement makes it unplayable after half an hour of hitting for me. The test string with its hybrid consctruction solves this problem and there was no string movement, very impressive! However it lost a lot of feel and playability at the same time, almost felt a bit "mushy" at times. The spin potential on the test string was "massive" compared to Gosen, I've never seen a synthetic or multi with that kind of spin potential. Unfortunately the string broke on the 2nd day when I shanked a shot. Overall I would say this is a good string to try, I am sure there will be more refinements to come.

~ I normally use polys and from what the string I tested looked like a Multi so it was a little bit more power than what i am use to. I would say that it is a (8.5/10) for power.

Feel
~The string felt very crisp and a very solid feel. It did feel softer than my normal poly that i use but it still had a very crisp feel. This is probably my favorite part of the string. Even on off center shots it still felt very solid.

Tension maintenance
~Currently I have been using this string for 7 hours and I can tell that tension has dropped but it is still very playable. I would say that it losses tension average for a multi string.

Control
~surprisingly the control was very good for this string. It was a lot better than what I thought it was going to be. Because of the crisp feel I felt like I could hit the ball to any where in the court. The only part that could have made the control a little better is if there was more spin potential. The spin was average but still ok to hit with.

Compared to Black Codes
~The string was defiantly different to Black codes but still good. I would not use this as my go to string because it just did not have the spin and low power feel that i like in a string. The part where this string shines is the feel it was great for volleying and touch shots.

recommended tension
~I would recommend it to be played in the upper 50's and low 60's. This was there will still be plenty of control and still good feel.

General comments
~This is a well made string because I am still hitting with it and it has not broken yet. I can normally break polys in 15 hours and this is still holding up well after the 7 hour mark. If there was more spin this would make it a great string with a lot of feel. Over all it was a fun play test and looking forward to future play tests.

Tension used for playtest: 55 pounds strung on Gamma X-ST crank
Your regular string set up: I typically use full poly strung at 55 pounds for hard courts or 52 pounds on the clay. I've been using Babolat Pro Hurricane 17 recently as my full bed poly, but used Luxilon before that. Just recently, I started stringing Gut Mains with poly crosses (Mamba Premium 16/Pacific Poly Force 17).
Racquet brand and model used for test: Babolat Pure Drive Standard (stock)
Power level of test string: This string is more powerful than poly, but it is less powerful than gut. I found it to be more springy than a poly, but less resilient feeling than gut. I'd rate gut a 10/10 on the power scale and this a 8.5/10. A typical poly would rate around a 6 for me. These numbers are hard to come up with as they are so subjective and I feel that different strings result in slightly different swing paths to compensate for the differences in spin and power.
Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?): This string initially felt pretty crisp to me, but it softened up and had a really nice feel which I'd describe as soft but very playable. It never got springy to me like Sensation does.
Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?): This string lasted right around 7 hours for me. I didn't find any appreciable tension loss in that time period other than that initial softening that occurs after hitting with a freshly strung frame for the first time.
Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): I thought the depth control with this string was excellent on balls hit up to 85% or so. When I swung all out, I typically missed long as I missed that little last second dipping action poly tends to add to a stringbed. I had great control over touch lobs, particularly lob volleys as well as on my drop shots.
Compare to the string you use most often: This string has better feel than any poly, but it would be hard for me to switch to it full time as the durability is too low for me and it lacks the depth control I want when crushing balls from the baseline. It is a great feeling string that would soften up a poly nicely. I would definitely stock a string like this for customers who want a multi.
Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?): For me, I will not string above 55 pounds as I hate a stick that feels boardy. I wouldn't drop the tension on this string either. I'd recommend any one who strings this up to use their normal tension.
General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes): I enjoyed the ease of stringing and the feel and playability of these strings. They had excellent directional control side to side, and had great control on softer shots. The sweet spot felt extra generous with a multi like this (compared to my typical full poly). I also liked that I broke the string before any presumed bad qualities of the string came out (difficult to control, too springy, etc.). I enjoy playing with a string that plays well until it breaks, and this string fit that description perfectly.

My only dislike was the slightly decreased amount of spin from my normal setup. I was missing balls by less than a foot that I think I would have made with my normal setup. Otherwise, this string shined in all aspects.

This string is a strong performer, and I hope it is an affordable option for me to stock for customers who prefer a soft multifilament string.

Stringing: Did not string this since I am not at home, so nothing to say on that front. All I can comment on is that there is no premature notching and the strings feel fairly slick when moving together. Strung 55/55.

Groundstrokes: Ehhhh...hmm. I'm going to review this as though it's a premium multi which I'm assuming it is. I guess I should preface this by saying for those who don't know, I absolutely adore NRG2. It's my all time favorite multifilament, own a reel of it, and played with it from high school up until 2009 in a full bed. Great string. With that in mind, this review will use NRG2 as a reference. This, however, is nothing similar (which is not necessarily a bad thing). It feels like a stiffer version of X-1 Biphase but without the magical sweet time spot. It feels to me like the "break-in" stage of X-1 which is better than the rocket launcher stage, but makes it have a very generic feel. Spin is about average off both wings, medium-low power, and not much action on slice. Approaches aren't as buttery as they are with NRG2. In short, not my cup of tea for a multi.
Overall: 8/10

Serves: For multis, this area needs to shine. NRG2 provides simply amazing serves with a "crack" sound that's second to none as shown in this video from when I was using full NRG2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FbSdunVwvw&feature=plcp

This white stuff offers none of that pop. It offers no spin. It seriously just feels like a mediocre multi which, truth be told, I'd rather serve with full syn gut if I had to pay for this stuff.
Overall: 8/10

Volleys: I wish that this would be the section where the astounding feel of the White Wilson string would be reported....but it's not there. It just doesn't have anything to it. It feels too stiff to have any feel at all. Overheads are pretty straight forward, but compared to NRG2 or NXT, this isn't even close.
Overall: 7/10

Durability: Now it gets ugly. This string has sensational tension loss. It reminds me perfectly of X-1 in this regard only that it doesn't improve as the string ages. I think I'm at 3 hours with this stuff, and while it's on its last legs, I have had to adjust my strokes to account for the increase in power. It's not a fluffy fraying string, more of a shredder like MCS. Given these two, I would not use this again.
Overall: 7/10

This is not what I look for in a multi. It's below average in all categories in my opinion, and doesn't redeem itself before breakage like X-1 does. The lack of linearity is concerning, but not that unusual for certain strings. Problem is that it just doesn't seem to be a top end string. While I obviously don't know if it's meant to be, I wouldn't pay that sort of money if it is. Compared to Sensation Control which was the last multi I tested, I'd take the Sensation any day of the week since it's good all around right up until it snaps.

Overall: 8/10 (would rate lower, but as I said, I'm rating it as though it's a mid-high level multi and comparing it to NRG2 which is my standard in this case and would get the 10/10)

control was there on all the shots, never an issue. except when i was nervous on second serves. i couldnt seem to get the spin when my swing was slower.

to sum it up, its a multi. i dont know what to really say other than it is softer than a poly, offers more power, and offers slightly less spin than polys. this is one of those strings that i could probably suggest to everyone from 8yr old beginner to an 80 year old park hero

It felt a little stiff. I am used to a hybrid of poly/soft mono and when I play with certain full bed multi, it can feel like this string. A little stiff until the outer coatings get broken into. It isn't too stiff or jarring, just not as soft as I am used to.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?) Did not experience a noticeable drop in tension. This could be because I didn't play that much with it, but I did have it in my bag for several weeks and I liked it the more I played with it (meaning a slight drop in tension).

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?) Inconsistent would be a good word. If I was hitting relatively flat with a lot of pace, it was great. When I tried to hit heavy shots, the balls would sometimes slip off the strings and fly and other times would spin nicely.

Compare to the string you use most often Not nearly as much topspin or consistency of play. But, if you compare it to other full bed strings of similar feel, I liked the pop.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?) I would string it a pound or two looser than I did. It was a little stiff in feel and this would soften it up.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes) I liked the power the strings generated. It got more spin than I expected. I disliked that the ball would sometimes fly deep because the strings didn't seem to grab the ball consistently.

Racquet: Wilson BLX Pro Open (This racquet has plenty of power, hence the higher string tensions, as I am looking for more control from the strings)

Opening Comments: First of all, this playtest could not have come at a worse time for me. After the first day hitting with it, I shanked an overhead during a drill. That shank turned into a bad case of golfer’s elbow. I have never had golfer’s elbow before, but have had tennis elbow. Thankfully, the GE, started healing with rest. So I had to take it easy for three weeks, playing about half of what I would normally play. The GE was/is a very sharp pain on the inside of my elbow. I do have a history of TE, and don’t play with full poly due to a past history with TE. I have been playing with the B5E/ NRG2 setup for over a year and love it, so going back to a straight multi, I expected a softer string.

Power Level: Started out medium powered with good control, but as the playtest continued, the tension dropped, and the power level increased. IMO, the power range was too large for a straight multi. Had I strung it higher, it might have had a shorter lifespan, but I think it would have been a better setup for me overall.

Feel: This string was initially stiffer compared to NRG2 and X-One Bi-Phase (I have reels of both), but then the string dropped tension and the feel got better.

Tension maintenance: I strung just like I would string any multi at 57 lbs on a constant pull machine. During the first few sets, this string felt stiff for a multifilament, but the tension dropped and it felt better. But then it kept dropping tension. I playtested NXT Control when it was a playtest and love it compared to this string. This string seemed to drop tension below my comfort range.

Control: Started out very nice, but the control started to slide as the tension dropped and the balls started sailing long off the frame. Very noticeable during touch volleys and groundstrokes that seemed to flatten out and sail long. Toward the latter parts of the playtest, the string was too powerful, so I would definitely string it higher the next time.

Stringing: Easy to string. Much easier than poly strings, and no friction burn on the crosses.

Serve/Return of Serve:
a) Serve: Tended to go longer as the playtest continued, easily adjusted by moving back a few inches. But noticeable lack of spin compared to my current setup.
b)ROS: Tended to hit the balls flatter than normal, unable to generate the same amount of topspin as my current setup.

Groundstrokes: Were much flatter than I normal hit. I think the WeissCannon Black5Edge is much easier to generate spin than any full multi, so this was expected.

Volleys: I felt this string lacked the touch and feel during the latter portions of the playtest that makes some strings better for volleys, especially those soft touch volleys.

Durability: I played 7 sets of singles and 6 sets of doubles before snapping a cross in the 7th set of doubles. I expected the mains to pop, not the cross.

Movement: Started moving more than I like in the middle of the playtest, both crosses and mains. Reminded me of Yonex 850 Multi. Too much movement.

Conclusion/Compare to Current String Setup: A little stiff to start with medium power to begin, then too powerful once the tension drops with a lack of touch, and not enough spin. I am not sure what Wilson was hoping for with this string. NXT Max and NXT Control are nicer for my game if I were to pick between these three strings, but it is hard to tell exactly since I am so use to my current setup. I appreciate the playtest experience, but this string as a full bed, isn’t my choice for me or other players who want full multi. I am not sure what market Wilson is targeting with this string, but I would love to try this string again and compare this string simply as a cross string. NXT Control is a vastly superior string to Technibre Duramix which I hated as a cross string. I love NRG2 and X-One, but I am not a fan of Duramix.

Future considerations: I am adamant the playtest would have been better if Wilson and TW allowed guys who hybrid to playtest this string as a hybrid, comparing the hybrid against their current multi or gut. If guys are using full poly, this string is going to be radically different than a full multifilament. The same hold true for those of us who hybrid.

If I were to use my current poly main and this Wilson string as a cross, compared to the exact same poly main and NRG, I would have been able to give a much more informed opinion.

I tried Babolat Excel for a Pro who asked me to hybrid and compare Excel vs NRG2 and X-One and give him my feedback. I only had one variable in the equation, Excel. In this playtest for Wilson, I had two variables, both the mains and the crosses. As a analyst, I would give more credence to the play testers who normal play with full multifilament setups as opposed to folks who hit with full poly or hybrid. Mikeler’s playtest is more valid than mine, as he normally plays with full multifilament’s. PVAudio, well he has earned the right to playtest anything he wants and TW knows this.

I would love to playtest more strings from Wilson and other companies. The playtests would be more valid, if players were allowed to hybrid if that is what they are comparing a playtest to. Hopefully, the folks at both Wilson and TW will consider this input and the ramifications on their playtest. I play tested NXT Control for Wilson as a full bed. I liked it, but I like it a lot more as a cross only.

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?):I actually felt as though I was hitting with less spin and control than before.

Compare to the string you use most often:Less spin, A bit less power, and less control compared to my PSGD16.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?):Maybe lower the tension a bit. For me anyways because the power just didn't it me.

First off, I apologize for the late review. Work has been going insane, I'll leave it at that.


Tension: 46/44 pounds constant pull (mains/crosses)

Regular String Setup: Unifibre Gut 16g mains (54lbs), RIP Control 17g crosses (56lbs).

Racquet: Head IG Prestige. No modifications, outside of Wilson Shock Shield grip.

String pattern of your racquet: 18 x 20

Opening Comments: A very slippery string. I was able to take some photos of it, however unfortunately I'm across the country from my camera, and won't be near it for a while now. Appeared to have some sort of a thread apparent in the construction? A bit hard to tell for my eyes. Strings up very easily, reminded me heavily of Prince Recoil, in all honesty.

Power Level: Started out as a low powered string, accounting for that I had strung so low. Unfortunately, I felt that this string really suffered a fast tension loss at the beginning adding to the power, which did not fare well with how I had chosen to string it. On the plus side, I was able to get significantly more spin than anticipated (even given that dense pattern), which aided in keeping the ball in play. In retrospect, my choice of tension was a two-sided sword - the string was deflecting more than I'd like, however the low tension and slip to the string really made for some interesting serves.

Feel: Nice feel to the string - certainly better than any copolymer out there, and better than my regular standard of RIP Control. I tend not to play with traditional multifilament strings.

Tension maintenance: Not great in my opinion, the initial tension drop was steep, and then seemed to level out.

Control: To be fair, this is hard to evaluate because of my stringing

Stringing: Easy to string. Much easier than poly strings, and no friction burn on the crosses.

Serve/Return of Serve:

Serve: Tended to be overly powerful, but I was able to get some nice spin. In the 'sweet spot' of this string, I noticed that it was easy to get deep serves with a strong kick. After that, it got a bit too powerful for me to deal with.

Return of Serve: Worked nicely with short to no backswings, power level felt nicely linear during ROS, as the power level is significantly reduced from a regular swing for me.


Groundstrokes: No issues at first, loss of control in the latter half of the string became an issue.

Volleys: I couldn't volley before using this string, and I can't volley afterwards. Would have preferred that I strung smarter.

Durability: Within the first hour of singles, I noted that the mains were already notching, and the crosses looked to be flattening. Strings however lasted quite a ways, somewhere in the 12-15 hour range. Not bad! It is of note that most of the hours were played as doubles, which really is a much slower game for me.

Movement: Didn't really feel like I had an issue with this. They moved and I just let them move - can't say I was a worse player for it.

Conclusion/Compare to Current String Setup:

I normally play gut/RIP Control. I felt that the power response from this string was not as consistent as my normal setup, but more importantly for me the tension maintenance wasn't there - I use Unifibre and RIP because they are easy on my little-girl arms and have good tension maintenance. That said, I didn't think this was too out of line for a standard multifilament product.

What seemed most impressive with this string was how soft/slippery it was when I was stringing it. It really opens up, at least in my mind, considerations as a cross string. I personally cannot see using it as a full bed, however others may disagree. My concern, and what is going to steer me clear, is simply that I like having the consistent tension of either my gut/RIP or full gut - I'll generate the spin (sure I can do some more with poly, who can't?).

Opening Comments: The string was very slippery, especially compared to what I am used to with the X1 and SPPP. It strung up nicely and did not notch.

Power Level: Low-mid power

Feel: Decent feel, not as good as the X1 but much better than others that I have tried. Seemed a little stiff compared to other multi's that I've tried.

Tension maintenance: Huge tension loss initially. The string broke after 2 hours of hitting with other D1 players. Used for a quick practice before NCAA's. String movement was very apparent after about 15 minutes of play.

Control: good control at the beginning but as tension began to drop, I started to spray the balls.

Stringing: Very easy to string. I would say that it was the easiest string that I have every strung.

Conclusion/Compare to Current String Setup:

Overall I liked the string. Compared to my typical setup, there was significantly less power and the strings seemed to become dead much more quickly. The ease of stringing was great. I didn't like the durability of the string seeing that it only lasted two hours but it is a multi after all.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?): It lasted well for about 5 hours and then it started to lose tension and balls started to fly on me. Not what I look for in a string and this was disappointing.

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): The first 5 hours gave me a very predictable and controlled response but after that I started to lose control. At that point my accuracy dropped a lot.

Compare to the string you use most often: BHBR never becomes too springy for me. At least not until right before breakage. I would not consider switching at all for this reason and because I use lots of spin in my game and this string was lacking in that department. BHBR gives me tons of spin.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?): No unless stringing it tighter so after it loses tension it doesnt feel as bad after.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes): The biggest dislike and why I wouldn't use even a fresh set of this in a real match would be the lack of spin that only poly seems to provide me.

Power level of test string: Moderate.Very comparable to RIP albeit with differing tensions. The power however seemed to continually increase with the rapidly dropping tension.

Feel (crisp? mushy? soft? stiff? off center feedback?):Stiff for a multi. I really felt dialed in to the string for about 5 of the 15 or so hours I played with it.

Tension maintenance (how long before it became too loose or unplayable?): I'd have to agree with Jaces on this. The first 5 hours were moderately stable then it seemed to drop off, although this is a qualitative analysis of it. I would love to see ERT data on the drop.

Control (predictable trajectory? performance on different strokes and swing speeds?): Again with Jaces, for the first 5 or so hours I loved the string. I was able to easily and effectively vary spin and power, flatten out shots, go for winners. I felt confident with this string. I think it truly shines as a multi for baseliners. It will last for a few matches and by that time the harder hitters will have broken it and the rest will cut it out.

Compare to the string you use most often: RIP Control holds tension extremely well compared to this string. However right off the bat I was able to tame the strings alot faster than I was with RIP, however as this is based off my first outing with RIP it could just be me playing with a semi-familiar string again. If the price was low enough to justify cutting it out after the drop I would play this over RIP.

Tension recommendations (after hitting it, would you recommend a different tension?): I would probably try this again at 60 or 62 to see if the tension loss could bottom out at an acceptable level for extended play.

General comments (please summarize likes and dislikes): Honestly other than the tension loss I had no reason to dislike this string. I was able to play at or above the level I was before with no drawbacks.
