Anacone has earned his percentage. Since he's been on board I can clearly see the increase in Fed's aggressiveness. Especially making Fed hit his topspin BH, having him come forward to the net, and having him be aggressive on the return of serve. All those aspects of his game have been on display since his major run since last fall.

Lukas Rosol is going to open his mail tomorrow morning to find a rather large cheque from a certain R. Federer :D

I gotta admit, I didn't think he had another Wimbledon in him after his performances there in 2010 and 2011. I did think he would beat Murray in the final though before the match.

2010 was an aberration IMO. 2011 he was playing decently, though he was a bit too passive, but tsonga just played too well ..... I did think fed had a better chance at the USO than at wimbledon, but he pulled it off wimbledon this time , despite playing less than his best.

The serve was the only component of his game that was excellent vs djoker and that was enough..

Here in the finals he was a bit unsure, uncertain in the first two sets , but just managed to eke out the 2nd set ......

The final 2 sets of the final though were an absolute treat to watch ..absolute masterclass ....

the forehand drop shot to end the long rally out of nowhere was the shot of the match for me ......:)

and what did that proof? nothing. he was unlucky to run into zoning Tberd and tsonga. that doesnt mean jack in the long run. look what happens to nadal when a nobody zones against him. same thing that shouldve happened against petzschner already.
so what does that mean? that nadal will never reach the R3 in wimbledon again? please..

It wasn't just his losses against Berdych and Tsonga but his overall level of play on grass, his match against Falla in 2010 was probably the worst match I've ever seen him play at Wimbledon and against Jo he was incredibly passive off ground and with ROS.

Nadal is a different case regarding Wimbledon, there wasn't a single Wimbledon in which he didn't struggle with a big hitter in early rounds while Fed used to toy with people in early rounds at Wimbledon.

Congrats to Federer. 17. Stunning achievement.

Condolences to Murray.

So now that Federer won on this year's apparently slow, high bouncing grass; is it still considered inauthentic by TT?

Congrats to Roger and all his fans! He fully deserved his 17th slam title, and 7th Wimbledon title.

Feel bad for Murray, I wish there could have been two champions today.

This still doesn't feel like it's true. I'm not going to say words of consolation for Murray fans because I know there can be no consolation right now. I can hope he does win a major atleast. I can hope he rebounds beautifully at the Olympics. And I can hope the Brits press gets the hell off his back.

More disappointment for Andy. I felt he really had a chance after taking the 1st set and putting pressure on Fed in the 2nd. But when he failed to convert those break points in the 2nd which would have given him a chance to serve out for the 2nd set, I had a sinking feeling that he had missed his big chance to nail the match then and there and so it proved. In the next 2 sets, he began struggling on serve, an all too familar weakness, and that was even more ominous. Fed, on the other hand, just upped his level in his customary fashion and started goating. He missed very few returns in the final 2 sets.

Plus side for Andy: He made his 1st ever Wimbledon final and his 4th Grand Slam final; he played overall better in this final than he did in the previous 3 and made it a bit more competitive.

Plus side for Roger: He's won his 7th Wimbledon title, equalling Pete Sampras's all time record, and increased his tally of Slam wins to 17, putting him even further ahead of Nadal and Djokovic, his closest rivals. To boot, he's finally recovered the #1 ranking, more than 2 years since he last held it, and who would have ever thought that? Finally, he's confounded all his critics on here and elsewhere who were certain he was too old and past it to ever win another Slam!

Federer is just amazing. Congrats to him on getting #17.

Obviously feel bad for Murray, but I think he can build off this performance and I'm sure he'll get a grand slam soon.

That sitter backhand that Andy missed at 4-4 30-40 breakpoint in the 2nd was the biggest miss. Had he nailed that for a winner he would have been serving for a 2 sets lead. Kind of reminded me of Roddick's missed volley in '09.

Mandy,
How about uploading those wimbledon photos?

Amazing from Roger from the end of the 2nd set. Pulled it out from nowhere and from that point showed his pure class, superior matchplay and genius under pressure, some of the shots he pulled out were unbelievable! Fully deserved win. No. 17 and No. 7 and No. 1. Just a masterclass of match-winning tennis from Roger. The record book has been completed just a bit more today, very fitting. Awesome achievement.

Unless Djokovic enters a 250, there's no way Federer doesn't get four more weeks at #1. Olympics points will factor into the rankings on August 6.

Great stuff from Rog. If only he had bagged the 2009 USO like he should have done, and dumped Novak out of the USO2011...

With Nadal/Djokovic super-motivated after Wimbledon, exits, there is VERY LITTLE chance of that happening.

Personally, I think Djoko will likely be in God mode during that tournament. We will see a Nadal-Djoko final. Hopefully 5 sets..

Not so sure about that.

Who cares. The goal was to break the Sampras weeks at number one record. Whatever he does now is just more icing on the cake.

It would be nice if Roger can forge his way into 300+ weeks at #1 though. He's not too far away. He'd be the only man with over 300 weeks...it just "looks nice".

Even if Djokovic gets the #1 back in the Olympics I can see Fed snatching it back during Montreal/Cinci period. IIRC Djokovic needs to defend W points in Montreal while Fed only has 90 points.

Nadal also can make up ground in the US Series, but he's never been particularly strong there.

It's times like this I feel bad for the young Nadal fans: they can't appreciate the genius of Federer. Murray, for the first time ever in a major final, went for his shots and was making them. No panic from Federer; in the 2nd set he picked up his game and mixed power tennis with incredible touch.

To all my fellow Fed fans: please join me in thanking the man responsible for all this: David Nalbandian. If he hadn't mocked Fed's BH, we wouldn't be seeing any of this.
