Ilhan (Is this correct?) have terrible backhand, though it is two hander. Consistent wide serving on backhand and usual safe cross court patterns guaranteed Nadal lot of easy points.

Nadal's form seems more like Madrid with level of play more or less like his average 2015 level.

When was the last time Nadal lost only 2 games in a completed match?

I'm guessing it's not that hard to if you're the king of clay and the other guy is ranked 87.

Nadal looked good today, but tomorrow will be a much better view on his real form.

Well, I'm not so sure bageling #87 is that easy for anybody. Especially on clay. Also, this guy just hammered Mannarino who is #29.

Agree that tomorrow will be the better view of his form. He's got Isner. Then Wawrinka and then Berdych/Federer.

Guys, Nadal struggles vs elite players (well almost in the case of Fog), not vs challenger types. Come on now. He hasn't become THAT bad

Both Ilhan and Mannarino prefer hard court though. This was always going to be a formality round for Rafa. Still, excellent for his confidence overall to start Rome with a bagel. After that disastrous perf in Madrid final, that's exactly the kind of invigorating boost he needed.

Let's hope it is :)
He really needs to work on that 2nd serve though. Even against Ilham he won just 38% of second serve points.
According to his clay stats this season, it is his 1st serve points won stats that have plummeted badly (1st serve too easy to return). That and return stats (although much less drastically, he's still one of the best returners, just not the best anymore).
His 2nd serve stats have been on par with Djoko's. Let's hope those don't start floundering now. That would be ominous.

When is Federer playing? Night session again in Rome?

Maybe. Maybe...
If Rafa won Rome, he would arrive at RG as #1 favorite again with best record on clay this season: 1 master title + 1 master final + 1 250 title. (The only guy who could match that is Murray if he was the finalist in Rome. And wouldn't it be absolutely peachy if Rafa took his revenge from Madrid vs Murray in Rome? That would give him lots of confidence going into RG)

Wow that's awesome, Nadal has beaten Isner and Berdych on clay this year.

Bellucci has been playing good the last couple of tournaments. Not surprised to see him winning at the moment.

Unless Rafa really has a pathetic showing in Rome, which I highly doubt, he'll still be the man at RG in my eyes. If he gets beaten early by a player he should routine, then he has some serious work to do. I don't think he neccessarily needs to win the title here, a solid showing will be enough, anything else is just a bonus.

As for Murray, I am not sure how much he has in the tank. This is his third week in a row, and he already won 10 straight matches, and I am sure he doesn't want to get to Paris exhausted, which could happen here should he have a few tough encounters. If he plays Djokovic that won't be easy for him.

Nadal-Wawrinka Tiebreaker

Did anyone else notice that when Wawrinka was down 6-2 in the first set tiebreaker, he went to the net 4 times in a row and won every single one of those points to even it up?

Who says volleying does not work in today's game?
