Wow, what a perfect ending to the clay season!

Can't wait for Grass season to begin now!

And remember:

2008 Nadal wins FO without dropping a set.
2008 Nadal wins Wimbledon.

2010 Nadal wins FO without dropping a set.
2010 Nadal wins Wimbledon.

2017 Nadal wins FO without dropping a set.

You are scarring Federer fans now. lol. But I did say before that Nadal winning FO is a good thing for him because he gains a lot of confidence and momentum from winning FO. I don't think he would have won anything outside FO had he not won the FO but that was never to be. However in the 90s, Nadal would have not won any Wimbledon or USO. I also don't think he would have won 10 FOs in the 90s. I am not saying for sure because I don't know 100% but it's highly unlikely.

He would've had like 5 slams now had he played in the early 90s, the golden era of tennis.

There were too many ATG playing at that time and also the surfaces were very different from each other.

First off, massive congrats to Rafa + fans, 10 is truly incredible. Congrats on your man being back at his dominant and winning best.

However, to me as a non-Rafa fan, I just missed the exitement this tournament.
In just 3 of the 19 and a bit sets, he played, Rafa's opponent got 4 games.
In another 3 sets, the opponent got to 3 games.

In other words,
- in 16 out of 19 sets, Rafa won at least twice the number of games as his opponent did.
- in 13 out of 19 sets, Rafa won at least thrice the number of games as his opponent did .

To me, that's just too dominant for me to get excited about a match. The outcome is clear within the first few games or at the very least, by the conclusion of the first set.
Heck, even Rafa struggle to say that he's had any kind of trouble this tournament:

During these 15 days you won seven matches. Which was the most difficult that you played or the hard moment during these 15 days?
RAFAEL NADAL: I don't know. Difficult to say. It's obvious that semifinals and finals, the nerves are there, you know, more than before. But the beginning of the match against Dominic and the beginning of the match of today probably two tougher moments.

Is true that the closer set that I have been to be in trouble probably was in the first round against Benoit in the second or third -- second set? Yeah, that he was 3-1, I think. Yeah. Yeah, he has a break with 3. That's the closest thing I have been to lose a set.

But the real thing is during this event I have not -- I won all the matches with unbelievable results. So difficult to say another thing.

So non-Rafa* fans, were you mainly exited or bored by the dominance he displayed?
* by non-Rafa fans, I mean people who don't have Rafa as one of their clear favorites. In other words, you don't need to dislike his game for whatever reason to chime in.

(and yes, I realize Rafa fans will yell "sour grapes" at me for this, but so be it ;)).

Sure, but it isn't Rafa being too good. It's the others being too bad. Soderling showed us all that you can indeed beat a prime Rafa and beating a post prime Rafa is easier. Sadly nobody played good against him.

Fed decided to rest during clay season
Djoko played really bad
Murray played mostly really bad
Wawa played Ok in SF but really bad in the F.
Thiem played good up until the SF and he's never been in a big final anyway.

It's just a weak era and Nadal is cashing in on it just like Djoko was doing for a couple of years and Fed as well.

I thought you're happy with the win? Stan and Thirm both underperformed. The rest of his opportunents were just not good enough in the first place

As a Rafa fan I'm happy but as a tennis fan I'm not really. The lost gen and next gen are both underperforming and that's bad for tennis. The ITF is to blame though.

Thiem did make the final of Madrid last month.
