Where is he btw?

And this is just a random stupid question out of curiosity: are the stadium courts at BJKNTS used for anything besides the Open events? Like If I was close and had crap loads of money could I play on Ashe?

Question: Can I Play Tennis at the US Open in Flushing Meadows?

Answer:

Playing tennis at the US Open isn't just for the tennis pros. The USTA's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows is the home of the US Open Tennis Tournament, and for 11 months of the year, the tennis center is open to the public for play (but not during the US Open tournament).

To reserve a court or to sign up for a lesson, visit the USTA's website or call the USTA at 718-760-6200.

Often access to the USTA is only through the west gate (and its adjacent parking lot). Ask the USTA when reserving your court for the best way to enter and where to park

So I Can Play at Arthur Ashe Stadium?!
Sadly, no. You can't play at Arthur Ashe unless you turn pro. The public is not allowed to play tennis in Arthur Ashe or the other stadiums.
You can play at one of the field courts, which are used in the US Open Tennis Tournament (and are blue just like on TV).

I applaud your courage. Truly. LOL

Hang in there, man. Your boy Fed will pull it together. You know he ain't gonna want to go out with a whimper. ;)

It's all good, it's been a dream year and then some for Federer, not gonna be salty even if he goes out. The close matches are always killer though, you'd take surviving over losing. Being in the draw is a chance to win and that's all you can ask for. Not gonna win the title playing your A+ game in these rounds anyway.

Heck 2015 USO Federer played the best tennis up to the final and lost, so you just never know.

Following these threads can be weird. For a moment there I thought I was being told that Mark Petchey was giving updates from Serena's labour.

Whereabouts is Querrey in the draw? If there's a chance of a Federer/Querrey final then I wouldn't be surprised if that's what we end up getting.
He's up top in the third quarter, so yeah, he's on course to make the final. Albot, then M Zverev/Isner, then Lorenzi/Anderson/Coric for the next three rounds.

That looks just as doable as anyone else's draw.

Damn. You're good.

It's time! Serena Williams goes into labor - as the entire FLOOR of her Palm Beach hospital is cleared to prepare for the arrival of her first child
  • The 35-year-old reportedly went into labor on Wednesday afternoon
  • She checked into St. Mary's Medical Center in Palm Beach that same day and is expected to give birth today after being induced on Thursday night

Maaaaannn. I go to the hospital and I can barely get anyone to take my temperature. This girl gets an entire floor to herself. Wow. ;)

On Wednesday August 30, tennis star Serena Williams checked into St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. According to CBS 12, Williams was induced on Thursday night and was in labor on Friday, September 1. Later in the afternoon, she gave birth to a baby girl.

The report indicated that Williams had the whole floor of the hospital to herself and that “no one could get in without going through security.”

Muguruza is what I would describe as "pretty". Doesn't have a bodacious body or anything like that but is tall with nice legs and a classy look.

If Federer is playing then we have to assume he's fit enough to play. A truly injured player will opt out.

That means Murray was fit to play Wimbledon this year. If he was truly injured, he would have withdrawn. Same with Nadal with all those countless loses in slams. Heck, even with Djokovic.

following up on my post about attending USO on Monday....

I'm back home now, so have a chance to get settled and enjoy everyone's chatter. After a great time on Monday we thought we might want to attend another, but the Tuesday forecast turned us off, so we schlumped around NYC in the rain. With all of the R1 top-half matches shifting to Wednesday, along with some R2 matches, we realized how loaded the play card would be so we opted to attend. We picked up some Grounds Passes for $60 (This was after a bit a schmozzle at the box office, where, after traveling out there and going through a massive line, they told us they had "absolutely no tickets other than Ashe courtside for $390 per. We stalled and moped until they released another batch of ground passes. Yeah!)

First up, Mr. Kyrgios. (I use the salutation somewhat liberally.) I was just starting to believe he might be turning a new leaf, but, no, he's still a dink. He started off fairly strong, but he would go through the motions for a few rallies and then suddenly unleash a monster. It didn't take too long though before he started whining about the crowd; upset about a call; rubbing his shoulder; getting medical treatment; delaying going on court after time was called, etc. His antics and pathetic slow, "whoa-is-me" walk between points became too much for us so we left after a couple of sets. We were glad to hear he lost. Nick is all about me, me, me. I don't know if he got any time violations, but he certainly should have!

Next up was the Rublev v Bedene match. It was lively but both players made a few too many errors. Clearly Rublev was the dominant player. His strokes, when they're on, are blazing. He can be very dangerous! I just wonder if he will develop enough consistency and and improve his range of strokes. There is no doubt he is an exciting player and I would be happy to watch him again. As an aside, I noticed that Khachanov was sitting about 12 feet away from me, watching his compatriot. He was chatting with a man who I presumed was a coach. I was just about to step down the row and slide over a few spots on the bench to listen in on what type of things they might be talking about....when someone suddenly came down the stairs and sat in "my spot"! So much for eavesdropping. There were only a couple of hundred people watching this match.

We grabbed some lunch and took it into the stands to watch Muller v Lorenzi. Again, there were maybe 300 people watching. It was easy to get a seat close up on the smallish court. But Gilles. Why? Why do you have to play like that? I like you and your mild-mannered approach. But, you just seemed to lack confidence, approaching shots tentatively and making lots of UEs. We didn't hang around too long as the match wasn't exactly scintillating. It was still good to see these guys and feel like you know them. (Is there anyone who looks less like a tennis pro than Lorenzi? Just asking.)

My hubby had said straight up that he didn't want to do another 10 am - 10 pm day, like we did Monday. So, just as we were about to leave, we heard the announcer say that Zverev v Coric was about to start on Grandstand. Heck, we were right there. My husband suggested we at least check it out. (Yeah!) So we did. And we stayed to the end. It was a great match for a live crowd to watch. Lots of aggressive shot making. I heard others around asking about Coric. "Who is he? He seems so good. Why haven't I heard of this guy before?" While I know that many of you complained that Sascha caved in a Slam as usual, he and Borna had many a long and exciting rally. It was a lively atmosphere and I was happy to see Coric take it in the end. I wonder if Zverev took him seriously enough at the beginning of the match. Hats off to Borna!

Of course, by the time we were leaving (almost 10 pm ;) ) the Shapovalov/Tsonga match was underway. We pondered swinging by Ashe to see if we could snag some free tickets from somebody leaving early, but we decided we were beat and headed back to the hotel to catch the rest of the match on TV. Yeah Denis!!!

I know this isn't the typical kind of post for this thread, so I hope I haven't offended/distracted anyone from the pure tennis talk.

(One final tip, for anyone who may find themselves at the USO, but there is a very sweet spot that surprisingly few people seem to know about. When we were sitting at the end of court 8 watching the Rublev match, we looked up above the court toward the Grandstand. There was a terrace with comfy seats, umbrellas and a bar. We thought it might be a private area. Nope. It not only overlooked court 8, but just past that to court 9 and a view of court 10 in the distance. If you got up out of your seat and took a few steps the other way, you were on the promenade circling above Grandstand, so you could catch some of the match going on over there. If you needed a break from the hard-core stuff, there could be worse places to be.)

Here's the view...

(That's Rublev serving in the right foreground.)

Excellent report, gogo! Although all this time I'd thought you're a dude!

Re: Kyrgios - a bit harsh, really though I see where you coming from but I tend to go easy on these young kids because they are dealing with harsh reality out there and it's a tough world. Unless they do serious harm to themselves or others, I love to give them a break and let them be, so that they can learn things their own way through their own experiences as they go through life. I think it's crucial for their mental growth to treat them with love and care and not judge too much, given that we are not in their shoes. I am not perfect but I love being non-judgmental.

I'll answer after Federer's match. Right now I'd say Nadal easily even though he's very average himself.
Tbh I can't help thinking that Fed's been playing possum. I wouldn't be surprised if he continues to look a bit shaky in his next couple of matches and then appears like a completely different player against Nadal in the semis and wins in 4 relatively straightforward sets. At the moment I think this is the most likely scenario that will play out in the top half of the draw.

Yes, Murray was fit enough to play. And he would have been fit to play USO too but he wasn't. There will be some niggling injuries that players can manage and play, but injuries like hip or back are far more serious.

I think a lot of Federer fans have problems accepting a loss in its true terms and always look for some sort of excuses while the reality is, no matter how invisible you are, you still may run into players who are better than you on that day.

I am not going to pretend what will happen in the late rounds, if Federer (or Nadal) make it that far. However I totally disagree with playing possum. Federer is not the kind of player who purposely plays possum ever. It just isnt his personality in the least.

Poullie, who successfully jinxed Andy, is heading to 5ht set while Coric, I suspect, will be losing in straight sets to Anderson.

Yeah if I actually watched much Women's tennis I would definitely hate her WAY more than I do Fed. As is I can't stand her. The ultimate Drama Queen.
I'm totally indifferent to the WTA these days, and I'm not Serena cheerleader . . .

I guess it was more of a commentary on what money can get you in America. So many people struggle with healthcare access and affordability . . . but money solves all.

No biggie.

No, but he has been turning up for the big matches this year (bar Montreal final).

Playing too many long matches cab obviously cause problems with the fitness down the line, particularly at his age. (Although his five setters have not been so long so he can still recover if his health is ok.)

But even if he comes out beating Lopez in straights, I won't read too much into this. If/when he reaches the quarters, I think that match will be the first one that really tells us something about his fitness, form and drive.

Of course it's possible that he doesn't make the QF, but that means he was never going to challenge for the title anyway.

I mean don't get me wrong . . . If I were a woman about to give birth, I'm not sure I'd want anyone to see me in that state. Or hear me. :D

But I wouldn't want to inconvenience a bunch of other mothers in my exact same situation, simply to spare my vanity or to have more 'privacy.'

But again, I'm just a guy. What do I know.
