I mean it’s not the 4R match people were expecting but I am so excited for Gauff v Kenin. Should be blockbuster for ESPN ratings but probably won’t rate much here in Melbourne. I’ll definitely try to watch from the crowd if I’m not working!

These courts are so dead. Or maybe it's the ball. No lively bounce. Gonna be real hard getting a ball past Halep in such conditions. Outside chance for Petra but I would back Halep too to win this one.
Would love 2C Simona in the Final again. Her 2018 opponent, C Woz, is already out.

Betting odds have Ash B as favorite. Followed by Karo P, Simona and Petra K. Coco G is not too far behind that group.

She's a long shot but I'd love to see CICi Bellis go deep here. Her 1st major since AO 2018. Hope her arm stays healthy after so many surgeries in the past 2 years.

Yep be great to see cici get to semi's. After the best few years she had. Sakkai another one i like to see do well here.

I predict the ESPN coverage will, from now on, be roundtable discussions about what Serena might have accomplished had she advanced, including detailed breakdowns of matches against each potential opponent, talk of whether the loss was "legitimate" or part of some kind of shadowy anti-Williams conspiracy, speculation on whether Serena should still be the favourite at every other tournament from now on, an hours-long preview of Serena's potential matchups at RG, including computer-animated simulations of each match, and a simulation of Serena raising the trophy at the end, large amounts of Gauff talk, and if we have time, some live men's tennis.

Sakkari over Keys and Jabeur over the Woz. Not the results I thought would take place. I’m looking forward to Garbiñe vs Elina and Coco vs Sofia those should be a great matches.

Edit: Alison Riske is now my least favorite WTA player. The yelling “WHY” was Ridiculously loud. Julia won the first set 6-1! She then proceeds to lose the next two? I think she just wore Jule down by annoying the hell out of her. Why???????

Osaka? Well, why is anyone shocked? Gauff is still raw, but for the second year in a row, she's making big moves against big name players. Tennis history is filed with top players / majors winners who were defeated in early rounds. That's not a discredit to the draw, but evidence of its strength. Same applies to Serena. And about Serena, if she wants 24, she should focus on Wimbledon, not the FO.

Of course, I love the fact Gauff said she's like to meet Laver (who would not want to chat with the GOAT?), and Laver in kind, responded via Twitter:

Hello @CocoGauff - congratulations on your incredible victory tonight. I would love to meet you too

Wonderful stuff for the sport.

I have no idea why Riske even shows up; she lacks so much of what it takes to be a majors winner, has not displayed much improvement in her game over the past few years, and she has that pampered air about her, with the Everts and Davenports of the world (...yeah...) with that "Allie" crap everytime she takes the court, as if she's some country club little girl.

At this moment 24 players left in the draw.
My picks to win:

In order

Svitolina
Bertens
Halep
KP

(Of course I'm wrong. All my faves are long gone)

Gauff upset Osaka? Holy crap. Anyone think still think she is overrated? LOL. Man gotta pull up some posts from last year

Kvitová beat Barty in Melbourne last year. Kvitová won the first 4 meetings, Barty the last 3 but I wouldn’t say she has her number.

I have a feeling that in pressure matches Barty would most likely prevail these days.
Kvitova hasn't been able to overcome the 2 Slam barrier.

Coco Gauff needs some PR lessons on how to talk and present herself in public. A bit too much "Oh my God...like...oh my god..." :-D
For realz? Jeez, she's all of 15. She actually sounds more mature than 22 yr old, Naomi. Coco is a natural... very charming with a great personality. Would be a mistake to contaminate or stifle that with "PR lessons".

Just saw her hitting that amazing overhead winner in the 6th game. She was jumping/falling backward (quite a bit) in NML while executing it. Incredible athlete.

Bencic for Svitolina who isn't what she was 2 years ago and you might not be far off. Surely KP puts it together in a big event this year.

I agree, Osaka doesn't seem to be focused. She kinda resembles a teenager preoccupied with some boy, or something she read on Twitter, etc.

Argh, the quality of Kerber-Giorgi in the first games has been such that the only way really is up...

I'd hope that Angie would find her best game again, really like her when she is 'on'!

Kerber-Giorgi the battle of the hot legs is my choice!
The other legs still in the draw are CiCi (she's back) and Coco. Even tho the latter's only 15, she's built like a college sprinter.

Simona gets a mention here. Garbine's not too shabby but she's gotten a bit too thin lately.

if Pavly wins this match, Garbine will have a good chance to go beyond QF, of course she needs to get through Svitolina first, but Pliskova is the ultimate nemesis for Garbine, in the same quarter is the worst nightmare for Garbine, if Pliskova is gone, Garbine will be the one pumped the most.

I actually give it to Simona of the ones left,I think her legs are perfection

I wonder if Serena will start making excuses as usual....

Check out her interview. According to Serena, Wang didn't do anything very different than her match in NYC except maybe serve a little better.

She attributed the loss to her playing below "Serena" level. No credit whatsoever to Qiang who, from my perspective at least, very definitely beat Serena.

In contrast, check out Federer's analysis of why Millman is such a tough matchup for him, in his post match interview.
