It's kinda sad how the way to beat the number one player on an indoor surface now is to be a bigger pusher than he is... it's also interesting how Djokovic can man-handle spin-oriented defensive players like Nadal on hard but seems helpless against flat pushers. Maybe the action on the ball helps him generate pace?
He hits with a 3/4 western forehand grip so he can swing insanely fast on chest high balls that sit up and still have them go in. In fact, its a very high percentage shot. This is why he has so much success against Ned.

If you try to do the same with lower skidding balls that bounce to waist height the ball will go into the net, so he imparts more spin and can't unleash unless he's given a short ball.

His backhand is extremely consistent and is probably the best in the world DTL but it lacks the CC angles that someone like Murray has or the pace that Wawrinka has. If his backhand DTL is not firing, Djokovic and his flat hitting opponent will be hosting a major pushfest.

Djokovic in 3 at worst. Med's lack of weapons was apparent today.
Djokovic in 2.

Djokovic's winning chances has considerably increased since his kind began to make the line calls.
I guess the sacrifice at USO was all part of the plan.

Not yet convinced by Med’s form even after the Zverev match. Lean Djoker, but their matches have usually been close as of late so I fully expect this one to go three.
Djokovic in a similar fashion to their ATP Cup match.
Djoker in two tight ones.
Djokovic 7:5 6:3
Djokovic in 3. 6-4 5-7 6-2
Djokovic in two.
Medvedev cannot win this match today I don’t think. Djokovic looks ON

Djokovic routed everyone in Shanghai in 2018. Played just 1 bad set in the YEC- the 2nd one vs Zverev in the final.
Shanghai is outdoors tho.

Good point with the WTF but the final leaves the biggest impression. And in this case, it’s not a particularly good one.

re: Shanghai -> oh yeah.
YEC, yeah final matters the most, but still one shouldn't forget the narrative before it: most dominant YEC ever for djoko (or even in general) . djoko had lost a set to Nishi in YEC 2014 semi. here, no set lost.
routined Zverev in RR, dominated Isner, staved off a red hot Cilic in 1st set and then won the 2nd set comfortably. thrashed Anderson in the semi

That means less than nothing. Novak is nothing if not ruthlessly efficient and determined to claim the big records, he wouldn't risk anything at this tournament if he believed it was actually compromising his chances at the Australian Open. I don't care if you changed Novak's diapers, thems the fax
I wish you and your family have a nice day.

Where's the choke in that match? The only place you could argue is 1-1 in the 4th honestly. After that Djokovic was just the better player and it wasn't on Thiem's racket.
No idea, didn't watch it. Just making a general point. I mean, even here 'was just the better player' just doesn't cover all the angles because Thiem could jave suuuuucked. What you're saying is Thiem played fine with no noticeable dip, but Djoker was better, I assume? I'll let others debate that one.
