No she acts like she's 28,5 already! Just amazing maturity!Emma just seem to be much more Mateur for her age. She acts like she's 25 years old.

and i love her british accentNo, more like a mature 21 year old!
I think I finally figured out what Djoker must have doneEnjoyed that!
Very high level, very little nerves and mood swings.
Just clean amazingly high level tennis.
Auto line calling really allowing on the line rallying to the full. Take note, Aus, Wimbledon and even the French (somehow)
What a 10 match run for Emma.
Minor record associated with coming through qualifying...most points ever earned in a WTA/ATP event, I imagine...2,040 points.
No joke she has an argument for most dominant slam win of all time, obviously most of these opponents were not high quality players but still.
There are two ways to answer that question.I was supporting Leyla but fully congrats to Emma very well deserved.
i will be honest this is hardly believable a world number 150 qualifier winning the title but it’s happened!
Big question now is going to be at 18 how she handles being the hunted not the hunter it’s huge pressure to back this up but that is for another day.
And even without losing more than 5 games per match.Iga Swiatek in Roland Garros 2020, also without losing more than 4 games per set. This of course if you're referring to all majors.
Yes I thought of that too, but how can one criticize that? She won against whomever the draw gave her to play.Emma first to win all her matches in Qualifying and in main draw without dropping a set to the championship. History made,, bigger than novak's CYGS. but emma may face some criticism in that she didn't face any top 10 player

Or another way to look at it is she convincingly beat the woman who took out three top 10 players.
I wish Osaka would be fading into her permanent retirement enjoying her tremendous fortune so that the curse would be automatically broken. It may be coincident but those who have beaten Osaka after her FO press controversy would go to the final and lost. It was Vondrousova at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (l. to Bencic) and Teichman at 2021 Cincinnati (l. to Barty.) Will Fernandez break the curse tomorrow?
who wasn't as fresh anymore because she took out three top 10 playersshe convincingly beat the woman who took out three top 10 players.
I wouldn't want to get too far ahead of ourselves now.Is Emma now the new favorite to win the Australian open 2022 ? looks like Osaka may not even play that, albeit she is the defending champion.
Look - I'm not saying it changed the match. But can you seriously imagine Rafa, Novak or Fed to have held up play for 5 mins for a graze.
If you answer yes, then I'll admit I'm reaching.
How can anyone gain joy from hating a person? That is so sad.I was the first who noted that Fernandez is hateable. Great to see people joining the Leylah hating bandwagon.
How can anyone gain joy from hating a person? That is so sad.
This could've all been said about NO too. Only time will tell. There are two ways to answer that question.
1. The non-tennis way
2. The tennis way
1. She just became a multi-millionaire overnight.
With endorsements she will be coasting all the way to the bank, even if she does almost nothing on the courts for the next 6 months.
She can stop and assess her life right now and realize that. There is absolutely no pressure on her now.
She can do almost anything she wants to do now, including hanging up her racket! How many people have this fortune?
2. If she's motivated, and we can see she clearly is, she's shown that she is cool as a cucumber and relishes the challenge of playing
to win no matter who her opponent is. My educated guess is that she will not only handle the pressure well but rise to the
occasion and become a WTA great!
2021 US Open Women's Final: [Q] Emma Raducanu (GBR) vs Leylah Annie Fernandez (CAN)
One of the most unlikely Grand Slam final matchups in history, with 18-year old #150 ranked qualifier Emma Raducanu playing just turned 19 year old #73 ranked Leylah Annie Fernandez. Both are Canadians, but Raducanu represents Great Britain having moved there as a two year old. Who's going to...tt.tennis-warehouse.com
You want Evert bias? Watch a SW match. She's a mom, you know!I really can't stand Pam Shriver commentary (not a surprise as most people agree with me), but one thing I noticed was that Chrissy Evert simply couldn't give up the Leylah story. Yes, it's a great story, but her final comments should have focused on Emma. (And this comes from a Canadian who was cheering for, and is proud of, Leylah.) These American announcers come across as so biased. Yes, I expect the announcers from a country to be excited and tout their local player, but Everts' biases shine through a supposed non-bias of an announcer.
(And I say this as a Canadian who was cheering for Leylah.)
I really wish we didn't have to watch the ESPN feed here in Canada. How can Shriver and Evert still have a job?
You can drop the nonsense. She dug her own pit in '11, but the incidents of '18 and '09 were not her fault in the slightest. You want Evert bias? Watch a SW match. She's a mom, you know!
MTO was mandatory due to blood running down the leg. No way around it. Fernandez was off base getting upset about it.The way this match was going, the BP meant little. They had so many on each other and saved tons of BPs. And it was on her own serve.
I'm sorry- can you clarify this? You can drop the nonsense. She dug her own pit in '11, but the incidents of '18 and '09 were not her fault in the slightest.
She received attempted coaching from her blunder of a trainer, but she never noticed the coaching in order to have "received" it.I'm sorry- can you clarify this?
Her meltdowns where she threatened the linesman, and the thing with Osaka are 100% on her. She's the one on the court. Period. Whatever, she had a great run but she's history, and her behavior is as much a part of her legacy as her titles. She received attempted coaching from her blunder of a trainer, but she never noticed the coaching in order to have "received" it.
I can't believe people criticized Fernandez for something but I should have known better than to underestimate the internet, I guess.I'm disappointed being Canadian to see Fernandez lose, but I'm also high on Raducanu since Wimbledon and love the way she hits her forehands. Raducanu is an amazing and charismatic player and hopefully a big star and success in the WTA for years to come. Both girls played tremendous tournaments and are exciting players to watch going forward.
THAT SAID. Responses from some of you regarding Fernandez is pitiful. She's a teenager who's whole life has been tennis, who has been on what appeared to be a divinely blessed run, that just had her dreams crushed. Give her a break with her speech or her complaining about the MTO. You guys probably act less graceful in your own tennis matches from time to time or even arguing with someone in a department store. She was on the world stage and showed a bit of lack of grace for 20 or so minutes... relax.
Yes, she is a bit goofy. She always does the little fist pumps, even in qualifying matches, even down 5-0. She was probably "fake smiling" because her family told her to go out and enjoy the moment. It's very obvious she gets nervous when in front of the microphone and tries to give good soundbites but is 1) 19 and 2) a bit socially awkward, so sometimes it comes off forced or drawn out. I've watched a lot of Leylah's matches over the past year or so and she's always been like that. She's a kid that's a combination of a competitive keener and a goofball. I think it shows well for her, that even with the runner up trophy in her hands, she already wants more and wants to come back and win the event. That's a mindset that can create a future champion.
It's really strange that some people actually came into this thread to call Leylah Fernandez names, or a villain, or unlikeable. Please go find joy in your lives.
They loved Leylah so much they made it a bit like the 'wrong' player won the title. It showed even in the reactions of the crowd to both players. It's probably the vibe Leylah exudes. I am not an American, much less a New Yorker, but it looked like Leylah could be a honorary New Yorker from the way the crowd lapped her up. Emma can't win them over with her clipped British accent but that's ok, she's laughing all the way to the bank and into the record books.I really can't stand Pam Shriver commentary (not a surprise as most people agree with me), but one thing I noticed was that Chrissy Evert simply couldn't give up the Leylah story. She's a little bit more than goofy. I don't mean it in a rude way. But her behaviour on court is not just silly, it's kind of almost bratty. She not a kid. She's young, but she's not an idiot and she seemed very clear-of-mind when arguing her "case" during the MTO.I'm disappointed being Canadian to see Fernandez lose, but I'm also high on Raducanu since Wimbledon and love the way she hits her forehands. Raducanu is an amazing and charismatic player and hopefully a big star and success in the WTA for years to come. Again, complete and utter nonsense, and I question whether you saw the aftermath of those matches. She factually committed no foot fault, and she factually received no coaching. You can hate her until the cows bark, but your tired-out "mother" jokes are misplaced on her.Her meltdowns where she threatened the linesman, and the thing with Osaka are 100% on her. It docks points. She's no "villain," but it was a lack of maturity from what I'm earing. If she had to deal with something more similar to what Muguruza dealt with, I doubt the wording would be as sharp.I'm disappointed being Canadian to see Fernandez lose, but I'm also high on Raducanu since Wimbledon and love the way she hits her forehands. +1 Proud of Leylah as a Canadian and applaud the champion who truly deserved it.I really can't stand Pam Shriver commentary (not a surprise as most people agree with me), but one thing I noticed was that Chrissy Evert simply couldn't give up the Leylah story. Yes, it's a great story, but her final comments should have focused on Emma. (And this comes from a Canadian who was cheering for, and is proud of, Leylah.) I was there and remember it clearly. She did not commit a foot fault.What....?
I was not there and can only go by the video, but I think it looked like a foot fault. Intentional or unintentional.I was there and remember it clearly. She did not commit a foot fault.
Yeah, I don't think Muguruza dealt with that well either, but I think the umpire could have said something after the second offence. Maybe not a violation but definitely a warning or query. It docks points. She's no "villain," but it was a lack of maturity from what I'm earing. If she had to deal with something more similar to what Muguruza dealt with, I doubt the wording would be as sharp.
If I understand the way American marketing seems to work these days, I can perfectly relate to why Leylah would be more marketable though I would not agree with that. You could see the difference in the way their presentation speeches were received. You could have been forgiven for thinking Leylah was the winner. An almost childlike bubbliness is rewarded now and looking to-the-manner-born is frowned upon.Raducanu better player and deserved it. Plus she’s British, so that’s awesome for me! I see no difference in their marketability whatsoever.
Not only did she not commit the fault, there used to be a video showing a frontal angle where her toes never contacted the paint. One of the few I never archived, thinking the truth would come out. Either way, it was a terrible decision to make the call at that point in time.I was not there and can only go by the video, but I think it looked like a foot fault. Intentional or unintentional.
Yeah, I don't think Muguruza dealt with that well either, but I think the umpire could have said something after the second offence. Maybe not a violation but definitely a warning or query.
Funny, I remember when Jared Donaldson got all street bully on an umpire, the word on TT was he's just a young man, let him go.?
They are adults

Whatever, dude. I don't hate anyone, so please do not characterize me as such. SWs conduct is well documented. BTW; the "tired out mother" jokes are an Evert reference- no one else; her SW slobbering is also well documented. We're done here. Well played to Emma, looking forward to Indian Wells. Won't even bother with the men's final.Again, complete and utter nonsense, and I question whether you saw the aftermath of those matches.
