Elena-Rybakina-vs-Ons-Jabeur-696x392.jpg

Jabeur has improved a lot since last year, but last year, she lost to Sabalenka 6-4, 6-3, so she can potentially be hit off the court by Rybakina. My take is that Rybakina’s biggest weakness is her mental game and she can commit a lot of UEs when she gets tight. She overcame that against Halep. The question is can she do it again against Jabeur or is the stage of a Wimbledon final too big? Jabeur though is playing the best tennis of her career and her variety may cause Rybakina lots of problems. In completed matches, they are 1-1 head to head, though Rybakina retired in one other match against Jabeur.

It will be an “interesting” match. Contrasting styles, who can hold the nerves better, extrovert/introvert, groundbreakers, etc… I am certain one who’s looking forward to it with tons of anticipation. Hopefully it will be a great match and not a dud.

Ons will have tons of nerve coming into the match because she's favourite. Plus history of first Arab and African to win single's slam. Hopefully she handle the pressure.

I think Jabeur will employ better tactics than Halep, who played her usual counterpunching game and got hit off the court by Rybakina’s huge groundstrokes.

Jabeur will be better at moving her around and coming to net, but I think if Rybakina’s serve and groundstrokes are firing again, she will be unstoppable.

Rybakina in 3.

Will this match get the Worst TV rating in history of tennis ????? Ons WHO ?? Rybakina ? is she related to Kornakova ?? These are some of the questions you will get from typical american folks that may ask "ohh, who's playing in the women's final ?" LOL

This final is bad for tennis,, that's all i can say....  :-D

Well personally I'm glad it's not Gauff v Rogers just to please a few people Stateside who are maybe on the fence about watching it.

Rybakina in two.

BTW Rybakina was born in Moscow and became Kazakhstan's citizen only 3 or 4 years ago because of a strong support of the local T.A.

A Russian WTA player could become the winner of Wimbledon '22. Fingers crossed.

Wimbledon will make out like it's not a big deal, and Russia will make out like it is a big deal. And then everyone will move on.

Tbh though, I hope - if Rybakina does win - people concentrate more on her achievement and how she played rather than where she just happened to be born. All that stuff about Raducanu's heritage after the US Open was just tedious.

Yowzers, the poll is almost dead even: 19 for Rybakina and 17 for Jabeur as of right now...

Rooting for Rybakina to win it. I put her in 3 but women's matches are almost always impossible to predict!

I might just root for Jabeur. I think she'll have less chances to win a major than Rybakina. I think Rybakina might get several chances at this one tournament alone. She's like Pliskova but a slightly modded, better version. And I'm starting to think she might just have the edge tomorrow.

The final is not a sideshow for ratings no matter how familiar (or not) the viewers are with the players. Anyone who would avoid watching the final because certain names (or worse, some fan obsession) are not in it are barely tennis fans.

Gauff vs Anisiamova would have been the BEST rated TV ever

No.

I'm glad to see Rybakina reach the final and I hope she wins the title; she's earned this place and has an interesting, strong game.

Both are nice girls, different playing styles. Elena's with powerful serves and groundstrokes. Ons is with varieties, slice, dropshot, big FH. If Elena can hold the nerve and be ready to move forward and backward, bigger chance is for her.

I feel like if either win, they could both continue the trend of recent one-timers.

True, but either will be under somewhat unique circumstances.

Jabeur is older, but this is the next step in a longer journey. Rybakina coming through, despite the restrictions, would show that many players just want to do their job (not make political statements). Either could win the first title for their country.

I would find it humorous (in the sense that it would look bad for Wimby) if a Russian-born Kazakh and a spouse-beater were the two titleists. You sure showed them Russkies!!

Kate shaking Nick's hand? o_O

It would ridiculous and richly deserved, but Rybakina is innocuous, as far as I know. And just as "dangerous" from a PR perspective.

You never know what happens when two talented players face each other in their first GS final.

In longer rallies I see Ons having a slight advantage, as she has the variety in her game to disrupt Elena’s rhythm. On the other hand, if Elena’s serve and return-of-serve keep on firing, we won’t get to see too many of those longer rallies. What favors Elena is the fact that she faced stronger opposition over the course of the tournament. She had to overcome the bigger challenges so far and I think that may turn out to be very helpful today.

Assuming both players will be equally nervous, I see Elena slightly ahead.

A final between two pleasant girls who are also exciting players, what's not to like? Wouldn't mind either winning but rooting for Lena of course, a fellow Russian ethnolinguistically no matter what flag she's sporting.

Rooting for Jabeur, as a win would be historic for African tennis, but I my hunch is Ryabakina will over power her and win. Hope it's a competitive 3 set match.

Can’t believe I have to listen to John McEnroe in this final. Awful choice. So many options and they chose this.
