23 Consecutive Grand Slam Semifinals

To put Federer's record of reaching 23 Consecutive Grand Slam Semifinals into perspective, consider that in Sampras' entire career he played in 23 Grand Slam semifinals.

2 Questions: Roger has played in 25 Grand Slam semifinals, will he beat Jimmy Connors' record of 31 Grand Slam semifinals? Will Roger reach another semifinal at the French Open which would make him the first man to ever reach at least 6 semifinals at all four Grand Slams?

Depends on the field next year. Can Sod keep his level up, and will Delpo be good enough to advance? The draw plays a role, what would be his ranking next year? At what stages of the tourney will he meet 4-5 top contenders on clay?

If I were to guess I would say yes. But as you see there are many factors that play a role, plus his own motivation and fitness in regards to his age.

To put it into perceptive, it will probably never be done again. Or at least in our life time.

With two slams being on hard court and there being so many big hitters, it will be mind blowing if someone even gets to more than 10 again.

Federer is in decline. To get into semil again on the FO clay his best chance will be 2011 or 2012 and not beyond. I hope he can pull if off. However those Connors' semi final records he probably does not care. So, well, lack of motivations could be dangerous.

However...

that record does bring up the 'weak feild' hypothesis again. Regardless i think 23 consecutive is amazing just based on being able to stay healthy for that long.

Oh not the "weak field" bs argument again. I mean seriously, he's had to beat plenty of people to get to these. It's not like he only played people outside of the top 100 in all the matches leading up to each semi's.

This really is an amazing record. Even for all-time greats during their primes, it is perfectly acceptable and understandable to suffer an occasional early round defeat in the first week of slam, here and there.

The fact that Federer has gone so long without suffering a 'blip' at a slam is incredible.

Only 9 other players even turned up and participated in all 23 of the slams that Federer built up his streak in; Berdych, Ferrer, Gonzalez, Karlovic, Lopez, Montanes, Robredo, Santoro and Verdasco.
